Title: Will you be buying a 2014 Seasons Pass?
Post by: mhguy77 on October 09, 2013, 08:29:42 PM
I have been thinking about next year and have decided that for the first year in many I may skip the seasons pass.  I am close to the park and it is convenient but maybe I need a year off.  I was not very excited this year during my visits.  With the exception of the new coaster I haven't seen much else new to draw me back. To be honest the festivals seem to be offering less.  Maybe I need a year off to grow fond of the park again.  What about you folks?  are you planning on buying the pass again?

We still haven't used this years passes.  If we end up not using them, we'll pay the small fee to transfer them to next year.  Otherwise, we likely won't.  Life is just too busy right now.

You bet- been buying them since 1990.  We've actually talked before about skipping a year but we get the mailers for Season Passes and see the commercials and the sirens sing and we're drawn to 'em!  :D
Actually all 4 of us find something we like at the City (and often the same things).  Since our son is a senior in high school and will be going to college somewhere next fall we probably won't get him one next year and just get him in with guest passes.

I don't know. It's been a rough year. Laid off from one job, but fortunately hired for a new job within weeks. Busy with commitments. I have only been on park one day this year...opening day. Don't know what next year might bring yet. Got to hang on to the money at this point. I hate it, too. I have always tried to use the season pass four or five times minimum per year. I'll have to wait and see how the next two months go before a final decision is made either way.

I dont think so. With only getting 1 week of vacation during the year, & enjoying going to SDC during the week when they are not busy, it is hard to get a day off just to go. The company i work for aint big enough to allow 2 weeks of vacation. And i am not going to use sick days just to go. It sucks.. :(

No. We only have one Branson trip planned and will be going to Wisconsin Dells for our summer vacation. Since we'll only be in Branson for Spring Break and we had a miserable time at SDC last Spring Break, no season passes for us.

Nope, wife wants a week in San Antonio before it turns Hades hot and Orlando when the Seven Dwarfs coaster is open.  Our family will hit Orlando twice, one will be Disney only for the most part with maybe a trip to The space center for a day and trip 2 will be the Universal/sea World Attractions with maybe a side trip to Busch Gardens to take advantdage of a ticket combo.

Hollywood-- ??? ???

MH, I will be buying the passes again, Since I am not a coaster rider, that doesn't effect me either way..  I still enjoy walking around, sitting, relaxing, looking at the older parts of the city, watching people. I enjoy I would guess about 75% of the "shows"/ music.. .

We will continue our "hobby" of going to Branson at least once a month is 2014, and sometimes twice. Counting this weekend we made it to the fall festival 3 times.. enjoyed every trip.

This year when NYE rolls around, we will have made 16 trips to the branson area this year, and visited SDC everytime after it opened in march.

We're not fully decided yet.  We're talking about maybe getting partial-season tickets to the Springfield Cardinals for 2014 instead of the SDC passes.

We haven't decided if we'll buy passes this year or not for the first time in years. We spent more time in Branson this year than ever before, but we only made it to the City for a few hours one morning. The cost is high, and we no longer need the BAFs. We had a few trips planned for Fall, but I broke my leg and that's absolutely out now. We always enter the 5K and that comes with an admission ticket. We might just use those free tickets for a visit during OTC and call it even next year.

We currently plan to.  The fall has been tough for us because of classes I was scheduled to teach but which didn't attract enough enrollment.  Still, the family has decided that the season passes are the big Christmas present we won't do without.

We drive cars that are paid for, never bought too much house while others did. I worked 32 hour weeks for a year in 09 and got no raise for two and a half while govt. Workers got their pay raises so excuse me while I think it's a good thing some feel what others have felt though it's only less than 20 percent of them and most will get back pay. The Orlando trips will not be both done in a single year but SA and one Fla.has been budgeted for some time and mostly paid for in advance.

I am excited for 2015 and a return to the City but I don't want kids to burn out, over the past five years we have gone over twenty times and SDC was all we did cause it was close.

This is the first year that we bought passes. I got them for us because I knew we were going to spend at least two days in the city and wanted to make plans to go back again later in the season.

I'm not sure right now if we're going to buy them again. I would like to, but I have no idea what we will be doing and where we will be living next summer. Right now, we're three hours away. It's the closest we will probably ever live. Even though it has been great to have the passes (we went back for our anniversary and we plan to go back for Christmas), I don't know if we will ever have as much time to spend at SDC as we did this past year. It's a sad thought, really.

Not for us next year. We probably would not have had them this year if they were not Christmas gifts. I think we need a break, and none of the shows and festivals appeal to us anymore.

I am shameful Silver Dollar City fan as I only go once a year - or so the trend has been. I bought a season pass in 2010, and 2011, and only went once. Granted it was for three days in a row each visit. Last year, and this year I am using a hotel / two day ticket combination deal. Times are tough, and it's just hard to break free, and head that way more often.

As for next year, who knows? I may surprise myself. :)

We will buy passes. As Sanddune said,we also don't go for the rides ,it's just relaxing for us to wander around and listen to the live entertainment (mostly The Pickers and Frisco Jack & Cuzzin'  John Rhodes)  and talk to the Citizens we have known for years. We drive down from Northern WI. almost 900 miles  4-5 times a year just mainly to go to SDC every  day for 1-2 weeks at a time.We budget all winter for our trips.

We've been talking about not purchasing passes in 2014. For 2 of the festivals this year we passed through SDC on our way elsewhere. On those 2 visits we spent less than an hour on each visit. While we enjoy some of the rides, our main interests have been the festivals and entertainment. There is less entertainment every year. Went last week for the Harvest Festival. The Riverside Playhouse was dark. In my opinion all venues should have some type of entertainment during every festival.

Also, the main entertainment venues have 3 shows and have them at the same 3 times during the day. For example during the Harvest Festival the Opera House, Red Gold, and Echo Hollow had the big shows. There were 3 performances at each venue with the same 3 performance times during the day.

Well we plan to buy a 2014 pass, Unlike the 2 millionaires on this site (Sanddune & Chitlins) ;D  ;D  ;D   (just kiddin guys dont take me serious). We do want to buy passes, but for the first time in years. We will likely have to wait till tax return money arrives to buy them. So we "probably" wont be getting the BAFs next year.

We have had too many car repairs this year. I was "furloughed" also this year (technically "laid off") which means I got about 1/2 my pay when I was laid off (State unemployment), and did NOT get back pay when I returned.

So Sanddune & Duelist --- I will help you out on the 2014 trip reviews.

BTW-Chitlins "and anyone else" -- dont let anyone dog you for spending money on family! You sure cant take any of it with you, and family (people in general) will always be the greatest investment. I am just happy for you all that have the funds to take such trips.  Instead of being jealous, we should be happy with what we have, and should be happy for those who may have more.

I am 55 years young and have earned over a million dollars in my "professional careers"...  Of course I don't have it, in the bank by any means!!  But I have eraned that much in 40 years of working, Does that count??  So I am sure I am  in good company with all the other hard working people on this site.. ;D

Looking forward top 2014....  with 4 more trips this year!!  The year is ending too soon...

In the past year I have replaced the heater coil in my truck that saved over a thosuand, radiator in the Accord with over 200,000 not to mention the rotors. Redone our kitchen and entryway tile floors with the new wood look tiles, all that cost me less than a grand cause I did it. That gives me extra money to do other things. Too many Americans are woefully incapable of self supporting themsleves. (Thats not a knock on you Qwed, I grew up with mechanicGranddad) I look daily at a photo of my great grandmother's house with my grandparents in it newly married with her and all I see are those cardboard covered walls in the background to keep me grounded. Rich, I ain't but I will squeeze every penny out of a dollar.

Wasn't that much of a crowd to spread out on the Wednesday we were there. Just wish the entertainment times were staggered. If you have just 4 - 6 hours at the park, the odds aren't good for seeing all 3 of the major shows.

We are trying to decide about season passes, too.  We are planning a Disney trip in June.  No, we aren't rich.  It will be our second trip, and it took me seven years to save for the first one.  I actually had some left over, so some of that is going to this trip.

We are planning a one-day visit next Sunday for the fall decorations and crafts.  That will be mostly what that visit is for because the shows during this time are not a draw for us.  We have a Christmas weekend planned in Nov.  That will make three visits for us, including the spring break visit during the snow.  If Dickens were to go away, I may not even come at Christmastime.  Maybe we're like some of you; we need a break or something really great to get us excited.  And before anyone says that Outlaw Run is something really great, yes it is.  But there is more to a theme park than huge rides.

I think this year we are planning to get season tickets.  There's five in our family, plus one for my MIL.  We haven't been since 2011 (season tickets then too), so thanks to all of you for the reviews/updates on the park in the meantime.  Makes me feel still connected.

So when do the 2014 ones go on sale?
Title: Re: Will you be buying a 2014 Seasons Pass?
Post by: Duelist on October 12, 2013, 09:42:45 AM
Season Passes usually go on sale during Old Time Christmas.  Listening to a lot of folks on this subject makes me realize again how blessed we are to have our jobs.  Besides this temporary furlough/shutdown (and I and my coworkers did work this past week thanks to a program that keeps us employeed until next Wednesday the 16th then after that if the shutdown is still in effect we will probably go back to full or partial furlough) our jobs are pretty secure.  My wife and I have both worked for the state of Arkansas for over 20 years.  We're not getting rich by any means but we can pay the bills and put some back.  The SDC Season Passes are one of the best deals we get all year  (compared to what it would cost for us to pay the daily fee to get in).  We're only about 4 hours away so it doesn't take a lot of a gas to get there and back.  We pray for those of you who have more dire situations than ourselves hoping things will get better.

Duelist-Im glad you got to put in a few hours recently. Im still praying that you (and all the other furloughed people) can go back to full time real soon.
--I have been working many many hours lately, which is nice compared to my lay off this spring.
>>>>Chitlins, you didnt need to explain. I was basically just commenting on a previous post, AND just trying to have a little fun with ya.  I do understand though, I have a mechanic Dad and a mechanic Son. Son and I did all the work on my Jeep in his garage, I did all of it while I was laid off, only cost about $300 in parts. Just for kicks though I had him roughly figure the repair in shop time.  Well shop rates are $110 hour, We spent close to 25 hours in total so You can do the math there.  --- In other words. YES you certainly save money doing repairs yourself (when you can).  However Im sorry if I offended you at all, I certainly wasnt trying to do that. I think it is wonderful that you can do things with the family.

I dont get the chance to do much anymore. My wife no longer works, so its just me bringin home the bacon now. She babysits, but its like pulling teeth to get money for that these days. We dont ever get a whole week off anymore. No way you could get 5 sets of parents to take the same week off, especially since 3 of them work in the same place (only 4 workers there anyway, no way 3 could leave the same week).  I get 3 weeks, but generally in the spring I use up 2 weeks because we get slow at work in spring. The other week I take (usually) on various Mondays. We go to Branson on those weekends since wife usually dont babysit on Mondays. (And wouldnt you know it), Im off on Fridays, the day she usually has all 7 kids.

Anyway we still plan on getting 2014 passes. It is really the only "get away" we get.  BTW: That is also why we like our little camper. We have a fav. campground that is only 1 hour away from home. Makes a real nice Saturday getaway.  Branson is 3 hours away, sometimes that is just too far, sometimes it is perfect

This year was one of the leanest in some time, but we still bought the passes.  We cut corners in other places so we can take the four kids while they are little. We are very aware that it only comes around once.  I have two that are just now ready for the kiddy rides at the 'Exposition", and two that are just now ready for the roller coasters.  They have such a blast at the City that we find a way every year to get the passes.

We don't take big vacations and live pretty close to SDC so it makes for a great summer treat for the kids to go to the park four to five times a year.   In fact next year we will need to get five passes instead of four so I better start saving now!  ;D

On a side note I hope the bring a friend passes stay attached to the season passes.  We took a family of eight last year and a different family of six this year.  This year the family of six needed to purchase two single day tickets and also bought food and drinks in the park.  All that to say is those BAF passes only help SDC's bottom line while helping us enjoy a day with people we wouldn't normally get to go with.  Also, taking a family that hasn't been to the park in years made me realize just how much there is to do for everyone.  It was really hard squeezing in everything in one full day, and we don't even go to the shows.  We had the best time in years seeing it through their eyes.

OH no--Chitlins, I hope it is not because of any of my comments.  Then again, you being angry with me might be better than if a sudden disaster just happened in your household. I certainly hope all is well. Dont let anything we might say disrupt your plans. As mentioned, kids are only young once. When ours was young, we travelled everywhere we could. Now that ours is grown, we stay in touch as often as possible, and see each other every chance.

As far me, well we have another problem with the Jeep. YUP, a caliper locked up on me today. Ironically, I was towing my neighbors car up to my Sons shop because his water pump is bad, and we didnt want it to lock up and maybe break the timing belt.---We was only about 2 miles down the road when I smelled the brakes. So a quick turn around, and back home.  We will fix the Jeep next Saturday (I hope), then take the car. Just a small setback, no reason to get bent out of shape.  BIG reason to praise Almighty God though. It could have been much worse.

Hatfield, you may have to wait till tax time to buy your passes. I think we will have to do that this time. We will miss out on the BAFs (maybe-and maybe cost a bit more), but I think if we get passes, it will just have to be. AND, we definitely want passes.

That had nothing to do with this site or SDC. And it's more to do about my mental wellbeing for about 3hrs on Sat for a about 12 to 14 weeks of the year. I blew a gasket about noon yesterday and blew oil till mid afternoon where planting violas in the flower bed repaired me.

We have taken a couple of years off due to being disappointed of the direction the park has taken.  This year we came back and was not happy.  Why do they have to put all of those booths on the main square.  You cant get around and it looses the charm of the place.

This I agree with.  I think they could spread a lot of this else ware around the city.  There arte plenty of dead areas that could use some more activity.  Like the Red Gold Area and the area near the water boggin tower, either side of the train Bridge near the saloon.  It does detract from the square to fill it up with a maze of booths.

They have historically placed visiting crafters on Main Street for as long as I can remember. It's only for a short while, and I actually like them there. I wish the sorghum guy had center stage as in the past. I loved walking in the park and seeing that demo before anything else.

They packed the square like that during the fall festival when I worked there in the 70s and 80s. Even had open wood fires going for the apple butter demonstration, using a copper kettle.

Although I agree, I can perhaps see why they do it. Everyone who enters the park has to go through the main square. So anything they put there is guaranteed to get lots of attention. It could be argued that such a practice looses the charm of Silver Dollar City, but the main square has always been the central location for live entertainment, craftsmen, and special activities. Besides, if you spread it out too sparsely, some things may get easily bypassed.

I remember that, also!  There wasn't a better place to be in the fall with smells wafting from black powder, sorghum, apple butter, lye soap, the steaks that were cooked on open grills around the city.  I wish they bottled that smell!

Yes!  Unless I've lost my mind, I remember them selling steak or ribs wrapped around a napkin from little carts or something. They also sold ears of corn with the husk pulled down for a handle and dipped in butter.  Junior, am I correct?

Well, I've now got a hitch in my giddy-up.  I was planning on buying 2014 Season Passes, but now my wife wants to go to SDC for the Christmas experience towards the end of December.  Can I get in using the 2014 Season pass during the last week of December, or do I need to get 2013 Season passes for the last week of the year?

Nope...  2014 passes are for 2014....

you will need 2013 passes or tickets or BAFs to get in this year.

I will be purchasing our season tickets for next year this month.  We have gone 16 times this season. We only live 4 1/2 hours away.  We love the area not just SDC. I work in law enforcement and have just got my raise with 6 months of back pay. Better spend it in this then something else.

You can buy a one-day pass for 2013 and upgrade it to a 2014 Season Pass for $50 (but I'm pretty sure you don't get the BAF passes for 2014 that way).

Someone posted earlier how to purchase season passes the least expensive way.  I know it didn't include the BAF's (which I no longer need), so I thought about going that route.  I don't remember where it was posted.

Try this out if you can go on Thursdays you can get in for $35 and then lay the extra down to get the pass.  The other way is to take a $20 coupon from the "times" buy yourself in and then go to the Seasons Pass window and upgrade that.

MHGuy, I have passes for this year - I'm talking about next year.  Someone posted about getting a SP w/o the BAFs.  I think it must be after the BAF offers are over.

as I remember, last year? (this year?) whatever....

anyway BAFs were offered through at least February, and they were still giving discounted SP prices when the park opened in march 2013
