Do you wave back?
« on: May 13, 2010, 07:11:56 PM »
How many of us ( no matter where ya'r at ) stop & wave back at the patrons on the train? We do, we just get funny looks from people. We dont care tho', we enjoy it. Just wish more people would wave back. :'(

Call it an "old habit" -- we were required to wave at the train when I worked at the park (not SDC).  So most of the time I don't even realize I'm doing it.

I was encouraged to wave at the passengers on the train during my "citizenship." However it's been 26 years, so when I visit nowadays, no waving.

I wave because I feel its my duty as a temporary citizen of our fair city.  So what if my family starts walking a little farther ahead or behind?

To the train,
At the train,
In the sunshine,
In the rain,
I will not eat green eggs and ham,
I will not, will not, Sam I Am.

I always wave, and sometimes I'll even yell "Howdy!"

Interestingly enough, it was so utterly noticeable the difference between the train at SDC and the train at Worlds of Fun when I was at WoF on Saturday. Firstly is that the WoF train is almost completely empty every time it goes by. Secondly, people in ride queues will wave at the passengers, but the passengers won't even acknowledge them.

So totally different from SDC.

Been waving for years why stop now?  Waved with my Grandfather, my Dad, my son, and my grandson.  Maybe I will be around long enough to wave with my great grandson.

Do I wave back?  Sure!  I think I heard somewhere it's railroad protocol! Personally, I prefer the Julie Andrews royal wave from Princess Diaries!   ;)

I believe it is protocol at SF STL. ALL employees waved at the train-no matter how un-enthusiastic they looked about it. It was basically someone still going about their business, talking working etc, and with no eye contact they began a "wax on wax off" movement towards the train, very unwelcoming if you ask me. The workers didn't even have the politeness to look up and smile, or make eye contact, or stop their talking, at least we didn't interrupt them!
