I have to voice that I think heading west is an over rated show.
Honestly I felt that For the GLory was much better.
What are your thoughts?
Honestly, I think your opinion sucks and that "Heading West" is amazing :P
"For the Glory" had run its course and it was time for something new and "Heading West" does an amazing job for a theme park musical production outside of Disney.
QuoteHonestly, I think your opinion sucks
You are a real charmer
Come on! Let's spread a little love here. :)
Hey, c'mon now, let's play nice, please.
I haven't had the chance to see "Heading West" yet. I'll hopefully be able to this year. I never saw "For the Glory."
Personally, my favorite Opera House show was "Listen to the River." I've got the cassette tape and an autographed photo of the cast. LOVED that show so much.

I totally agree. The continuity of the play ruins the whole thing for me. Headin' West means they should cross the plains and
then cross the mountains. They refuse to make some easy changes to make this right. Having said that, I do enjoy the music, and the performers do a fantastic job.
I still propose that we write a totally unique production called
Marmaros, which has been discussed in another thread. I volunteer to work on the writing and song selection.
I like the show. Could there be a better show? Probably. I usually see it each season. It's not one that I would watch twice in one visit like I have with Dickens. ;)
I agree that the show does have its flaws.
**Spoilers**
Could she really not find time to tell him she's pregnant? Maybe she didn't want him to not go because of her, but what wife would do that?
If he had just waited a few months, he could've taken the train, too. He could have saved a lot of hassle. But maybe all of the best land would be taken--lol.
I really can't complain about "Heading West". I think they do a very nice job with it. The music is entertaining and you gotta love the old prospector!
I enjoy "Heading West" and I also enjoyed "For the Glory" and "Listen to the River". I do wish the continuity changes would be made to HW. My husband and I talk about that each time we see the show; doesn't make sense. I wish SDC would post cast lists outside the theaters for all shows.
Anyway, we also enjoy "Dickens" but we also enjoyed the Christmas in the Ozarks show. I wish SDC would revive a smaller version of Christmas in the Ozarks in the Riverside Playhouse.
I think HW is a pretty decent show. And just because I work backstage for it doesn't mean I'm biased. I've worked some shows that I would willingly admit were pretty bad. I didn't consider FTG to be all that great of a show...it didn't flow well emotionally, quickly reaching a plateau and having nowhere to go at the end. LTTR and DCC have been my favorites by far.
Yes, it does have that big continuity problem, which I've tried to rationalize by considering that the mine excursion might have been a bust for Luke, and he had to backtrack and work on that farm for awhile to earn more money to continue his journey.
StaceySue- "Could she really not find time to tell him she's pregnant? Maybe she didn't want him to not go because of her, but what wife would do that?" She thought about telling him but decided not to for just that reason. It was a different age, and women were generally more subservient to their man's wishes. Not saying that's good, just the way it was.
I really like HW.. but I Love DCC.. Zephon can you tell us if this is the last year for DCC? There have been rumors.
Oh man, I hope that is not true. That production helps me with the enjoyment of the christmas season. It is so well done, it would really be a big mistake to replace it.
I've been hearing those rumors for about 6 years. But based on the attitude and care we are instructed to take toward keeping the set in decent condition, I would guess the show will be around for another few years. There has been talk of developing an original musical adaptation of "It's A Wonderful Life," but I'm not sure how far along they are with it.
Would they adapt it to the time period.
I think the Christmas Carol and It's a Wonderful life would work. Too bad they can't stage them both in separate venues on park.
This isn't going to be popular, but I am so ready for a different show in the Opera house during Christmas.....
No to the change...the show is too much of a success! Junior, that is an awesome idea to have both of the shows on park. But they would definitely need another large venue to stage "Wonderful Life". Could play it in echo hollow and have real snow and people getting real frostbite, etc. Of course, that would bring on real lawsuits...uh, forget that idea.

Yeah, I know times were different, but they were young and in love. I think she would have told him. ;)

I
totally agree! The Opera House is way too small a venue for Christmas Carol. Despite the fact that it is an old story and many people already know how it goes, the theater is always packed when I go to that show. They DO need to move it to a bigger place.
I like the SDC version a lot, and don't want it to stop. But I must say that I like Mickey's Christmas Carol better. But I'm in the minority here, they don't ever show it on TV anymore for a reason. Ya know, so they can air "A Christmas Story"(pink bunny suit/Red Ryder BB gun) 50 times a year. I liked Christmas Story the first 5 times I watched it...but give it a rest!
Anyways...back to topic. Any other shows people would like to see during OTC?
It is packed because it is 15 degrees outside, and this is a place to sit in the heatm on a soft cushioned bench for an hour!

True...but why would you wait outside upwards of an hour and a half, in some cases, to get inside out of the cold for 1 hour?
Should SDC do a rock musical and call it "Head East." Whoops! I think that name is already in use! ;D
Ahh touché Nate! honestly I was only kidding, after some prodding on here, I first went to the show last year. It was good, but I will not be returning to it unless it is changed (I know the ending...why would I go see it again!) It was nice to be in warm for a while.
The funniest part was when we were inside at the finale, the fake snow began to fall, and upon leaving I was kind of bummed that it wasn't really snowing.

I have been to OTC so many times and not once has it snowed :( The Herschends must be close with the man upstairs to have that kind of weather control, as snow might drive people away. I agree with you that it would be great to have snow at SDC...just once.
Been there done that...Been snowed on in October (30th) 3-4 inches, November, and Flurries in December, Ice storms and snow in March....

I guess "There's Never Been Any Reason" for them to do that. ;D
AHHHHH somebody did it!!!!! I lnew someone would use the song to be punny (pun+funny) in a message, I thought about it...and passed to see who would do it first. Thanks Duelist!
And on their way east, one of the main characters stops off in Nashville and becomes the lead singer for Petra!

You're welcome, Rube. Somebody had to do it. :D
just a thought: they could have 2 shows, and rotate them year to year.. true for any of the festivals..
I also have wondered why they dont have new shows every year?.
Is it really that hard to come up with new skits?
I have never seen Heading West, but I was really looking forward to it, This year, unfortunately, I didn't make it at all for the Harvest Season. I had a movie competition that took up a weekend, a trip for my athletes race to Springfield one weekend (with no option of ducking away for a few hours seeing that I was in charge), a school lock in another weekend (well only one night but it took the rest of the weekend to recover), a trip to Chicago for the wife's marathon, adn well now...I am still in our racing season, so this weekend is outta the question and before that, I had kids racing every weekend since Sept!...maybe next year!
well dont worry rube, you will have plenty of time next year to see it.. ::)
