How exactly does that work? I'm going to be going to SDC in Dec and I want to be sure and get my ornament! Do I have to do anything special or. . . ?
Thanks!
I think you have to have been to so many different festivals through out the year. I think its 5 or 6.
You are suppose to go to five different festivals
i know about having to go to 5 festivals, but what i was asking was where do i go? is it just guest relations?
no, go to the area where they are selling 2012 passes, (down by the broom shop) (i think) this year. they will scan your pass, and give you your ornament..
just checked the map, go next door to the wood carvers for ornament/
Its not tied to festivals any more just the number of times you've gone. They made that change last year. My parents thought they wouldn't get one but they had made enough visits to qualify even though they only made it to just 3 festivals.

That seems confusing. Would visiting one day for each of the five festivals be the same as visiting five days in a row at one festival?
are "WE" sure about he 5 times visit? instead of 5 festivals?? i will look for info on website,,, if you see it,, please post link accordingly,,,,''
I got my ornament today.
Congrats sanddune!
I have yet to see it, so I hope either you, or someone can snap a picture. ;D
You know I was wondering about that I got one of the ornaments but did not think that I had gone to five but figured they keep track of it. I know for 2010 the policy was just the number of times you went in the year. But I do know with the 2012 pass it did say to qualify you need to go to 5 festivals.
unless 2011 is an exception, it has been 5 festivals for several years.... I think 2011 had 10 of them..
i am wondering if the new events for 2013 will count as "festivals"?
Last year I had attended what I though was one too few festivals to get an ornament, and upon leaving the park (while driving away) realized I had simply miscounted, and I had jaunted down for a day during the Fall to catch the festival, and I would have gotten an ornament ...but my parents both got one each, and gifted one to me! They have every one that was offered since the beginning. (They did have to get one or two from a flea market down on Hwy76!)
I was curious about the ornament situation and called SDC. The woman I talked to said she does a lot of planning for the city. She said you need to attend a total of 5 festivals or events. An event would be like Family Spring Break Days or Moonlight Madness and of course festivals like Bluegrass & Barbecue or Old Time Christmas. It looks like there are 13 special events and festivals in the year. She said and I am just quoting her "it is not based on total number of visits".
Well that would explain how someone could miss one of the major festivals, and yet still qualify by attending five "events."
If I remember right, last year they changed the requirements a bit (just for 2010) because it was their 50th anniversary year. They only required five visits to the park during the course of the year. This year they are back to attending five events.
What is on the ornaments this year?

I think you're close. It was 5 different events and/or festivals. Not just 5 visits.
the carousal
I grew up riding the carousel! I'm glad its back, but I don't get to ride it anymore. :(
Carousel is an odd word. It just looks funny. maybe its the U. It just seems a little off...... ???
I thought the same thing, and had to look twice at it.Silly French words!..
Here is the etymology on it...
"a playful tournament of knights in chariots or on horseback" (1640s),
from Fr. carrousel "a tilting match,"
from Italian. carusiello, possibly from carro "chariot,"
from Latin. carrus
OK. if every thing goes right here is a pic of the 2011 ornament.!
thanks for sating my curiosity! I hope I used/spelled that right.....very cool! and you have two!
Albeit much smaller than last years, I still like that better.
I'm kind of happy I'll get 3 of those this year. Most years the ornament has been neat but not really remarkable.
actually it is about the same size as the last few years. they had a display showing last severla years, and had them on sale for 10.00 each..
the big thing i did notice is that last years and this years is "lighter" than previous years. AND all the previous years say "made in the usa" on them.... THESE DO NOT...??? mmmmm? wonder if that means anything?
What if.....WHAT IF (mind you I am just trying to be all silly up in here)....WHAT....IF.....
They randomly place ornaments in actual trees throughout the park for people to find! It's THEMING!
Hahaha, just kidding, but imagine how it would force people to do what we are already doing and look at the details and beauty of the city instead of herding through the City like cattle.
Of course, because this is just a silly lark of a concept, there are many problems with the plan (like hoarding, cost, etc). But just a silly fun idea. :P
come on betamike......be honest......who here do you know would hoard SDC memorabilia....I dare you to name one person! lol :D
Yah name one (wait we cannot name ourselves right?)

You may be on to something! Silver Dollar City could create a "Find the Ornament" contest where they take like one hundred ornaments, and hide them throughout the park. They could hide them in a bush, or on a windowsill, or hanging from a wind chime, or wherever. :D
Hopefully that would be all that people would take off the trees...makes me think that someone would somehow end up with a tree at home covered with HUGE red and green ornaments!
HEY!! you all need to take a deep breath! its starting to get OUT OF CONTROL!!!
