Title: San Francisco Oven Closed
Post by: biscuitcreek on March 31, 2012, 07:25:51 PM
The San Francisco Oven at the Landing closed earlier this month. Was owned by the same guy that had the Macaroni Grill at the Landing. Lots of press coverage about it in the Springfield News-Leader.

Is the Landing just not bringing in enough revenue? Seems like several places have closed recently. Granted, some of the shops are a bit niche, but overall it’s a great place to spend a couple of hours.

I know I'm not really helping with the revenue issue, because I spend most of my time on the Boardwalk...  :-\

I'm sure rent there ain't cheap. Gotta have volume people through, but they gotta be buying stuff, too!

I love walking the Landing and having dinner there.  But, I must admit...I spend more time walking around and enjoying scenery than I do shopping. With gas at a premium, I feel lucky that I can even get to Branson as often as I do.  I also love the uniqueness of the shops, but so many of them are franchises that I can access at home w/o paying "higher than a kite" sales tax.  Sorry, Branson!  This economy is kicking butt!

It has been a rough 6 or 7 months at the landing.   Losing them left and right!

That sales tax down there is a killer, 10% or more if memory serves.  The parking is also just not convinient.  They are going to really have to pull something out of the hat down there, things are looking bleak for the landing.

I think they will have to dig deeper than their hats to make the landing work. From the sound of it, the landing is going the way of the red roof mall....

Ouch! Sales tax is high down there. If the Landing could retain the look of high end retail shops, but bring in merchandise with more competitive prices I think that would help a bit. A lot of the Landing is just about novelty. They need to bring in retailers that have products that tourist, or visitors could actually use. I also agree that parking is a bit cumbersome. Since both parking lots are at the opposite ends of the Landing, you must walk all the way to one end, turn around, and walk all the way back to the other. I know space is limited, but I wish there was more centralized parking.

Personally i use the parking garage, i swore i never would do that. but it is 3.00 for up to 4 hours(i think), and you are in the center of the mall area.. Most of the thing i like are right there, or were there..  LOL!!
old chicago,
shorty smalls
crab shack,
the 2 boat rides start right there,
the harley shop.
and there are a few stores the girls like and they go either direction.
we "used" to always meet back at old chicago...

anyway the garage always has worked for me..

I wouldn't mind using the parking garage if you could park for free if you made a purchase or ate at a restaurant.   Other shopping areas around the country do that.

Read on another board that the Level 2 steakhouse that was in the Hilton Convention Center (now closed due to tornado damage) has moved into the old SFO space which is the ground floor of the Hilton Promenade Hotel.

To clarify the hotel tax in that area is 14% and the retail I believe is higher than 10% due the "special Landing tax". Yep they have an added extra just for that area (not sure of the % that is). The rest of Branson is 4% just on tourism tax + the state tax which is 7.6%. So depending on where you are and what you buy, the tax is a killer!
