Title: New Times in the mail today!
Post by: thelarsonsix on November 01, 2012, 06:18:48 PM
Haven't had a chance to look through it much but I wanted to be the first to post about it!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

One thing I did notice is it's printed on a slick magazine type paper now instead of the rougher thicker paper like in the past.

I also received my mailer.
Interestingly they seem to be reducing the windows that you can use your BAF, even charging $20 for the Midnight Madness BAF.
However if you look at the 2 park seasons pass your windows are larger.  It seems to me they are really trying to direct people over to White Water.
Anyone else notice this? thoughts?

I haven't received anything yet this go around, but maybe it is on the way.

Of course The Times is really nothing more than one big advertisement. It wouldn't surprise me at all that they are promoting White Water, and other attractions heavily as the more places people go, the more money they make. :)

Mine arrived! Yay!! Now off to read it! There are a couple coupons in it. Nothing exciting. But better than nothing!

Upon even further investigation: Found in bold print under KidsFest section: FINAL YEAR of Americas BIGGEST Kids Festival So what do they have planned for 2014 to make up for that "big loss"?

I wonder if charging for Moonlight Madness is a way to cut down on the crowds. 'Cause boy howdy, it can get crazy busy on those evenings.

INTERESTING @"Final Year" of Kids Fest. I'm eager to know what their plans are to replace it.

I'm probably wrong but it seems the two park season pass for SDC and WW is cheaper this year.  Does anyone remember what it cost for the 2012 two park pass?

I didn't receive the summer issue of the Times and haven't received the current issue, either.  Don't they want pass holders to benefit from the coupons enclosed anymore? ???

Speaking of festivals, I think WorldFest is for fewere days in 2013 than it has been in previous years.  Looks like more days were added to Bluegrass and BBQ.

It does say that the moonlight vouchers are all day and night. Previously they were good after 6 pm only. But, they were free.

As luck would have it, I found mine in my mailbox as soon as I posted about not receiving it yet! :D

Good point. That would explain the $20 charge as a person can now get in from dawn to dusk with that price.

Sounds like a compromise for those sp holders that complained that the BAF hours were to limiting during that time.
We'll get two adults and two children and with that we'll likely bring 20 different people to the park that will spend money on concessions.

Exactly. Because if memory serves me correctly, many of the shops, and food venders close down during Moonlight Madness. Limiting a free guest until after 6:00 PM limits extra income from those guest.

That is very interesting! Kids Fest has been a summer staple at Silver Dollar City for a couple of generations now. Although I avoid Kids Fest due to the heat, and crowds, it is still a heavy contender

I got mine today. Weird to have it printed on glossy paper... And yeah, the Times sure seems to have basically become just one giant ad. Seems the Pathfinder has become a bit more what the Times used to be, with actual articles and stuff.

Note the windows you can use BAF increase if you upgrade to the 2 park.  Specifically Christmas.
I think the idea is to make it a sweeter deal, they are needing to push some folks to WW. I say increase the free shade and
reduce the hills and number of steps. I simply cant spend a day there.  Its too much of a workout. It isnt laziness its a health issue. If the increased the greenery and the natural canopy it would be easier on your skin.

I never received the summer edition and I still haven't received the Christmas version.  I'm starting to think the marketing department must not like me.....

Well you figure the two park deal is not that bad all you need is to go to white water one time, use the food discount and you are even.

I am just not a White water kind of guy, I long for the old days of CC,  that was an option for me.
You know I would have gone for a buy a seasons pass and 1 ticket on the Branson Bell or a trip to the Butterfly Palace but White water is just not something I am able to do.  I hate that they have made a large divide with the BAF with the White Water combo.
I am ready for a gold pass including parking and free drink refills or something along those lines, that would be a worthy " buy up".

I am with you MHGuy. I hate WW. I will not buy the dual ticket. I would be thrilled with a gold ticket. My dream gold ticket would include but not be limited to:

-Free drink refills
-7$ off food (10$ or more)
-20% off the Wilderness Campground
-One ticket to SBBB

I am not picky on parking as they offer free parking. And will they ever make a golden ticket? No but I can dream. And I still hate WW.

Got mine 2 days ago! Sadly no trip for us this Christmas. Hopefully next year. I always start wishing for a trip when the weather starts changing! Wish I was there watching the lights, eating a walking taco and drinking some hot chocolate.

Well, don't get too down. As promoted in The Times, there are all sorts of exciting new things for 2013! Not to mention the new rollercoaster! ;D

I won't get too down since I just booked our hotel for Thanksgiving 2013! LOL! Although I will NOT be riding Outlaw Run, but my Hubby will love it. I'll just get in more rides on Fire in the Hole while I wait!

Got my Times the other day as well...I also noticed that next year will be the final year of Kid's Fest...Are there plans to add a new summer festival of some sort? We haven't purchased dual park season passes since the closing of CC. I long for the days when we spent all day at SDC and went to CC in the evenings.

Maybe they'll extend Moonlight Madness? Make summer a "Family Fest," something that will be a bit more varied in age range. I imagine that teens feel a bit out of place amongst all the bright kiddie stuff during Kids Fest. And from what I've seen, the extra hours of Moonlight Madness have really been popular, and the times I've seen/took part in the dance party, the area was PACKED with people dancing.

Joy,  that is an excellent point,

KF is aimed to the younger crowd for sure...nothing for "teen"agers except rides...

maybe the PTB could come up with a few events to interest the "older" kids.....??

I believe that Kids Fest has run its course anyway. Besides, there are plenty of things for kids to do all year long such as the Grand Exposition, and Half Dollar Holler, and so on. I'm not going to shed a tear if we lose Sponge Bob. ;)
