Hopefully an insider will chime in here, but I wonder if Kid's Fest is actually totally done or not. The article in the Times says "FINAL YEAR of America's BIGGEST Kids Festival".  (emphasis theirs.)  Could it simply be that someone else will have a bigger festival? Or am I simply reading too much into it? As a 90s kid I just can't picture SDC without a summer kids fest.

IMHO they will keep kidfest,  summer? kids? vacation?  yes they will keep kidfest..

But it needs to be revamped, I would expect to see it be shortened up, and I hope BG & BBQ extended..

You can bet whatever they do Kidfest will still be an event for all families to attend!

On their FB someone asked about this and they stated they were doing away with kidsfest but will be bringing another family friendly fest to replace it.

Meh. I think all of the festivals that aren't directly theme related (such as bluegrass and crafts) get in the way of enjoying SDC. I actively dislike Kidsfest most of all.

SDC itself is a kids' festival, in my world.

I would guess it would be renamed. They are not going to miss out on attracting the family crowds. To me some of the festivals are ok and some I would not walk to the mailbox to see. We were there during southern gospel picnic this year and I could care less. The good thing was there was not a line for any of the attractions.

Kidsfest was/is entirely too bland and generic to be as effective as it should be. I'm sure whatever will replace it will be more intensive. I doubt we'll see them give too much care about respecting the park's theme though... the chain at large is diversifying and building relationships with all sorts of third parties. I have a feeling we'll see a lot more of the likes of Spongebob and other cartoons, among other starkly non-sdc things, before long.

I say good riddance! I avoided Kids Fest like the plague. Although I do not currently have children, I do like kids. However, a hot, crowded, kid rowdy afternoon is just not how I want to spend my days in the middle of July.

Kids Fest worked well in the 1990's when it was at its prime, however I think the entire festival has lost its true calling. It has become a smorgasbord of random kid activities.

A more focused, family festival of sorts would be a better fit. :)

I think Shave is on the money on this one.
They will rework the Festival, rename it, BUT it will still be pointed toward the kids and younger families..
Typically I dont go in the summer anyway. the hot temps and humidity in the park gets a little rough sometimes for me.
