FYI: Saturday is the grand opening for Fireman's Landing. Festivities will start around 8:40am at the Gazebo with a performance by California High School's Pinto Pride Band followed by presentations by the Herschend brothers and other guest speakers. Next a parade to Fireman's Landing will occur featuring a bag pipe band in the lead followed by numerous firefighters, golf carts with dignitaries and the California's band. At the new area there will be two more short speeches from the 2nd story balcony of Fire Station No. 3, ribbon cutting and another performance by California's band.
All of the area's major media outlets will be in attendance. If you want to witness the ceremonies you should plan to arrive early.
How'd you rank such an esteemed performance?
I'm glad to see they have incorporated an accessible balcony for presentations, and they seem to be open to having performances in the area. This is what's missing in GE.
Helps to know people. We're also getting an official photo op with the Herschend brothers. Pretty excited.
Tell 'em I'd be interested in the CEO opening. :)
Maybe we can be co-CEOs. Since we have our other jobs and stuff.
It's worth a shot.

Nice pics Swoosh!
Congrats on the performance. I did not know you were that close to me either.
So... it's a little late (darn life getting in the way) but here is my report from the Grand Opening

Great pictures! So amazing you got to be a part of that celebration! As a dad of a former band member (my son played tuba and sousaphone in the Bauxite Arkansas High School Band from 7th - 12th grade) I know how proud you are of those kids.
Very nice, Swoosh! Thanks for the pictures.
We need to meet Swoosh! We have two great things in common... Band Directing Awesome Kids and a love of SDC!
Where do you teach?
Not sure when the next time I will be down to the 'City. I'm getting ready to head to the East Coast for my annual vacation -- then when I get back it's time to get things ready for Band Camp. *the joys of being a band director*
I taught in NW Arkansas all of my career until 2 years ago made "the" movie to a small town in East Texas. Great move for us. We are headed for Branson in two weeks. It and SDC are the one thing we miss terribly! Who ever said band directors get summers off.... ;D
I get June (barely) off. 10.5 month contract. Yay?

At least you don't have to carry a snare drum around for four hour band camps ;). Gotta love band!
Just 4? You were lucky. :P

are*, I'm young, remember. How long are your band camps?
Mine are 4 - 6 or 7 depending on what group is up for a section rehearsal! We also have to balance our time around East Texas heat. 110 degrees and marching fundamentals are no fun!
Bromance?
8am-1pm last two weeks of July.
