Has anyone been to the Globetrotter Experience show yet? The email I received from SDC said that in addition to the 30 minute shows, the players would be available for a meet and greet after each show.
Here's what Branson Tri-Lakes has to say about the Globetrotters:

Interested in seeing the Globetrotters. Must ask this question: What do the cartoon characters have to do with the 1880 Ozarks? Answer: NOTHING! NOT in Miss Marys time. Just sayin... Poor Miss Mary must be spinning in her grave. Then again, what do the Globetrotters have to do with the 1880s Ozarks? Noting, but at least they are inside a theater. Oh well, guess I cannot live in the past... ;D
Aren't the cartoon characters inside too?
I realize that the globetrotters have nothing to do with the past. They aren't a draw for us so we probably won't go for the summer mo tha. It's too hot and we have white water passes.
But the summer festival hasn't had anything to do with the past for a very long time. Let's face it. This isn't Miss Mary's time anymore. If it were, we wouldn't have the basketballs or games (can't we get rid of those?), the grand expo, or fireman's landing. Both of those were good expansions. We would still have the tree house and the ropes and the ball pit.
I have become an avid kayak er during the warm months. I dont miss the city in the heat and I dont miss the kids stuff. The Globetrotters are now so politically correct they have a woman now, notice in the adds. However they do not have a white person.....I guess that White Privaledge i keep hearing about only gets us so far....... ::) ::) ::) ::)
From what I have heard but not seen this is just a exhibition. They are not actually playing a game ( cough cough ) like normal. So just a few tricks and some stunts. The Globetrotters have been bought and sold so many times the last few years I wonder if this is a last ditch effort by Herschend to make them relevant again. Sort of like the Circus I think that their time is past.

Relevant and on target, I agree
The circus has just evolved. The "circus" is now "CIRQUE du SOLEIL"
To paraphrase William Shakespeare,
"All the world's a circus, and the men and women merely clowns..."

The overseas leagues have cut into the quality player pools from which to draw from. Arkansas has an alumnus that could easy be playing in the NBA but he is making tens of millions as a Euroleague all star for a team in Russia. Back in the day when the NBA was half of the teams it is today and no other place to play, the Globetrotters were very talented.

I meant that the whole concept was old and worn out. They do the same things they did in the 70's, and 80's. You cannot even compare the NBA and the Globetrotters.

Not to the young, that's the primary target. I was making note that back in the day they were very talented ball players, now not so much.
They're still talented in their own right, but as I understand it, the Globetrotters are now focused on being a show and less of a showcase. It has evolved more with the times than some of you guys may be willing to give it credit for since you aren't part of the target audience.
I was curious about the Globetrotters addition to HFEC at first, but now I think it's brilliant, and their performances at SDC should fit in well. It sounds like a fun and positive show that will engage a lot of kids.

Around 200 they were playing some D1 college teams, name teams, in competitive exibitions and winning them. They beat the Cuse once.
We went this past Friday. It was pretty fun. My kids (ages 8 to 12) loved it. It was a little cheesy, but I expected that kind of thing with the Globetrotters. There was a meet and greet after the show.
So SDC is currently on the front page of Reddit due to a personal story about the poor handling of the disabled seats at the Harlem Globetrotters Experience: http://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/3cfy8u/being_fat_is_not_a_disability/
While neither SDC or the HGE are really being focused on, it doesn't cast good light on either, so I feel like some changes are on the way here. The wheel chair issue is a growing concern... They've been known to run out before because so many guests have simply gotten too big to be able to support their own weight.
I've been near the wheelchair rental booth several times when SDC has run out of electric chairs. I've seen some guests get very angry and throw a fit when they are told that there are no available chairs to rent; the ones sitting there have been reserved for people that called in ahead of time to reserve one. It is highly suggested by SDC to call ahead and reserve. I wouldn't want to be one of the workers manning that booth. That said, what stinks about SDC's wheelchair access area is that the person in the wheelchair must sit separate from the rest of the family. One person may sit behind the disabled person, and the rest of the family must find seating elsewhere. When I had to use a manual wheelchair, I do remember getting to sit by my husband at Echo Hollow. Other places, not so much...which definitely discouraged us from attending any shows or events. On the other side of this, I've seen a disabled guest show up with 15 others all expecting to get to sit in accessible seating and getting angry when they are told they must move. Not sure where the happy medium lies.
I don't get why people always think they need to be by each other during a show or on a rollercoaster. They won't be talking to each other, so why does it matter if they are by each other. It seems like every time I'm at a park I am asked to go in front of someone on a ride just so their whole group can be on the same train.
It's just sad that people are getting so obese that they call it a handicap, but it's not like places like SDC and other parks offer much that is considered good nutrition either.
If I was obese (which I'm definitely not), I wouldn't want to walk around SDC very badly.

SDC offers plenty of good nutrition choices - fresh fruit and veggies, tater twists, popcorn, caramel corn, choices of salads and veggies, some lean chicken at the buffet, burgers. It's up to you to make healthy choices and avoid the unhealthy ones, but they are there if you want them. They also let you bring in your own food.

Come on you don't really believe that burgers , frited tater twists, theme park popcorn and caramel corn are healthy do you? Let alone a buffet.
It's all about moderation, but by the time you're at SDC that's beside the point anyway.
The issue of obesity is probably a bigger issue than what we should delve into here, but the HGTE can certainly do a little more to alleviate the disabled seating concerns here. As many have noted, some of it is probably overblown because you're always going to be sitting behind someone unless you are lucky enough to have front row seats, so maybe there's a little entitlement coming from the father instead of the women. Plus, we don't necessarily know their specific issues...
It was just shocking to me to see SDC at the top of reddit like that.

Compared to funnel cakes, skillet dinners, cinnamon rolls, giant turkey legs, and bakery offerings, yes they are better, more nutritious offerings. They certainly aren't perfect, but if you choose to gorge yourself on higher fat/sugar food, that's your choice.
The motorized chairs at Walmart are abused by lazy folk. I pray for the day they are got rid of. Several recent youtube have been seen at Corporate showing the abuse. SDC rents them, it's revenue but often these folks are discourtious at best and plum dangerous at worse. Folks can supply their own, it's a plenty abused Medicare/medicaid program.
The story is now reaching the MSM: http://www.businessinsider.com/this-picture-of-two-women-in-wheelchairs-is-going-viral-2015-7
The Star-Spangling Banner Festival? It shouldn't be that hard to get the name right.
Do not be so quick to judge the people riding in those carts. It may be that the ones who are overwieght are riding for a different reason.
My wife--like I am--is overweight, but that is not the reason that she has ridden in the electric carts, at the City and Walmart, too. She has ridden because of her artificial hip--she is on the third revision of it--the result of a Giant Cell bone tumor that ate her pelvis and femural head when she was 28 years old. Now at 44, it looks like loosening of the hardware is pointing her at yet another revision. That means she'll have to ride the carts again for a while.
The last time, she got some dirty looks and snide, under-the-breath remarks about riding them just because she was fat. 'Fraid not, folks.
Next time you see someone on those carts, think twice before assuming WHY they are using the carts. "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." And: "As ye have done it unto the least of these, so ye have done it unto me."
They are ECV's, Electric Covienance Vehicles. you do not have to be disabled to rent one...

You are absolutely right! And, I'm sorry your wife had to endure sneers and dirty looks from mean-spirited righteous people.
The Globetrotters seem to be a popular show. All the shows were full and lines of people turned away to go in and see them during all shows that we tried to catch. We finally saw them but went straight to line the second the park opened to catch the 11:30 show.
My wife and I went down yesterday afternoon for the sole purpose of watching the Globetrotters. We got into the park at 2:30 and knew we had an hour and a half wait before the show so as we always do, we jumped on Thunderation. Short line, got right on and right off. Instead of going back on again, my wife suggested that we go and wait in like for the Globetrotters. It was easly 2:45. The line was already at Echo Hollow. We decided to wait and see. Then one of the guys came down saying that from where we were, it was on the bubble if we were to get in or not. We wanted to see it and it was the last show so we thought why not, we'll try it out. We did get in and was able to sit together. It was great. We loved it. Made me feel like a kid again. They put on an excellent show. I knew it wasn't going to be a regular game like you can go see but still, fantastic. Someone earlier mentioned what did the Globetrotters have to do with the 1880's. Nothing, sure, I give you that. However, with the amount of audience participation involved and that's what SDC is all about, they seemed to fit in perfectly. And it's great they stay around for 20-30 minutes to meet the fans. You can't tell me the kids don't remember that. I'm glad we got to see them and I hope they come back next year. The only problem I saw was the fact it was at the Riverfront playhouse that seats only 200. Is that the largest place to hold them?

T-N-T, I am puzzled when you say the Globetrotters were at Riverfront Playhouse. They were in Red-Gold Heritage Hall which holds way more than 200 people. I know someone else on here knows the seating capacity of Red Gold.
We saw the Globetrotters on Friday the 17th. We got in line about 10:15. Doors opened at 11 for Show Lovers and handicapped guests and the other doors opened at 11:05. Pre show started about 11:15. Actual show ran until 12:10. Red Gold was full and the audience was really into it. The team they had on Friday really did interact with the audience, and the team members looked like they were having a good time.
We enjoyed the show but if the Globetrotters come back next summer, I don't think we would stand in line again. I know all of the kids waiting around us with their families did not like waiting in line that long when they could be riding rides.
Red-Gold, that's right, my mistake. While we were being told that we may or may not get in the guy informed us it only sits 200. That's where I came up with the number. I loved it though, well worth the wait in my book.
Red Gold sits closer to 1,500... Hell, Dockside and Boatworks sit 300.
Hell seats way more than 300! ;D
Now you're thinking like me, Gilligan, (;)) but Hollywood surely would have employed an Oxford comma if that was the intended meaning.
I live by the Oxford comma! It takes away all ambiguity... Or at least I thought it did!
I only stated what the guy who works there told us, that's all I can do. Maybe that's why it looked like a lot more than 200 in there. The only glaring thing I didn't like was the shameless Coke advertising in the middle of it. Very classless but besides that, great show.
