This is something we've been quietly waiting for, glad to see it finally arrive.
Man, Branson is on a serious new attraction spree this year.
I saw that earlier, as well.

It's about time! Every trip to Chicago included a ride. Now, if someone would build a wooden coaster on the strip....
With all the big Ferris Wheels being built - I was hoping that Branson would get one someday. This might not be one of those new huge wheels, but this will be a nice one for the strip.
Jay
It is more than big enough for the area
(http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa109/Dustijn/beautiful-easter-egg-icon-18386_zpsmeudsvgv.png)
It would be nice if they would upgrade the gondolas to be enclosed. It would make it more of a all season attraction.
Everytime I've rode it, it was enclosed, just not heated.
So I looked it up, and the old Electric Star ferris wheel at CC was 95ft, and this one is 150ft. The Electric Star felt pretty big back in the day, so this will be pretty dominant on the Branson skyline.
Not quite big enough to have pods like the fancy new urban wheels, but big enough to be a spotlight attraction.
well anybody that says branson isn't growing or expanding, hasn't been watching ..
For good or bad, 76 will never look the same after this year.
What is coming? I don't remember all the names,
Ferris Wheel.
New Shot tower (Bigfoot)
Famiy fun center next to stampede. (Ziggy's?)
the proposed fun park on 165
SDC 2017
Spirit of 76 project
Ballpark complex (if it ever get finished).
what else?

I was just going on the video. It looks open air on that. I have never rode it , just stood under it a few times. But, it looks like a great addition to the entertainment choices.

One of those locations need to go all Fun Spot. We really enjoyed Fun Spot last Feb. And... as a bonus caught some of Uni's night fireforks while riding their woodie.
^I'll be HFEC would try to work their muscle behind the scene to stop that from happening. More and more though it looks like we're heading that way. As SDC gets bigger and bigger it leaves space for a smaller competitor to slip in just like Branson USA tried to. I don't think HFEC would have to worry too much as long as it isn't any bigger than what Fun Spot Orlando is currently. Just adding a couple rides and coasters to an FEC isn't going to touch what SDC offers.
QuoteJust adding a couple rides and coasters to an FEC isn't going to touch what SDC offers
Its complementary really and gives the strip and highway views visual interest and a icon. I hope it works out.

There is actually market share when it comes to this. Branson sees "8 million" visitors a year, and Silver Dollar City only sees 2 million of those... There is plenty of room for sharing at those numbers.

I think both the ferris wheel and Bigfoot will have people waiting to ride. Both should be great addtions, the estimate cost on wheel is only 2 1/2 mill.. If that is a total number, that's cheap investment..

It offers a chance for the areas to get some of the newer, compact coasters that and lots of fun but capacity challenged. Just look at the woodie that a FEC outside outside of San Antonio added. 8 person train at SDC? Highly doubtful, but for a place like that, it's perfect.
I wish it's a giga or launched invert. Are wing riders that much different than Wildfire
Construction is underway: http://www.hometowndailynews.com/2016/04/27/one-of-bransons-newest-attractions-is-going-vertical/
Wish they had started on all these great projects just a bit earlier. It looks like I'll have to come back in late June/early July to check it all out.
I am really excited to see what they do with the new LED lighting system. I really wonder how many colors they went with. If done right just the lighting could be a attraction in itself.
I have heard the Michael Haygood is involved with the new lighting,
I don't know if he designed it,
helped design it,
is installing it,
overseeing the project or what..
But since he is involved I guarantee the new lights will be awesome..
Frontier City has an awesome LED light show on their wheel. It's a little dangerous driving down I-35 at night because everyone is watching the wheel! Hope Branson has the same thing in mind.

Once done, the excitement will be waning.
Time to add a small footprint steel coaster.
Hopefully the lighting and special effects aren't as real as this one....
I would say that Michael is certianly involved because you can see his bus in the bottem of this shot. Pretty cool shot too

I am really surprised they dont have this thing done for Memorial day. I watched it lay on the ground for what seemed like a cpl of months. It seemed like it went up in 2 -3 days and it sitting. Letting a lot of money and exposure pass them by. I think the wheel is a great addition to Branson but I dont look at this as a "trip maker". I see this as a side attraction you choose because you will be in the area. They are letting a lot of possible riders pass them by.

I'm going to be in Albuquerque on the Friday before Memorial Day and Cliffs isn't open, go figure. I had to shuffle the schedule around for this trip to accommodate my girl's manditory cheer camp. So no Cliff's or Wonderland. So, I backloaded the trip with San Antonio for 4 days.
They did hang all the gondalas on Memorial Day weekend but the grounds around it still looked it needed a lot of work before they got open. I got a picture but it says it's too big or something.
Have you seen the 360 video? It's on the Haygoods Facebook page, along with some explanation:
QuoteMichael Haygood is an absolutely outstanding lighting genius and mad scientist inventor for our show but today we are extremely thrilled to let you know that Michael and his team designed and are installing all of the LED lights on the new Ferris Wheel here in Branson! This is a HUGE deal and we are SO proud of Michael!! This Ferris Wheel is the biggest and most amazing new attraction in Branson! The Team at THE TRACK had an incredible vision to bring it here to the 76 Strip and made it happen! The lighting system has 280 BARS with 16,000 smart mapped pixels and 144,000 individual LED'S!!! These are pixel mapped, smart LED'S
and the latest technology. The big reveal will be soon and we are INCREDIBLY STOKED!! Check out this 360 video brought to you by Midwest Virtual Technology. Its awesome.
Yeah it's gonna be awesome. It already makes such an impact on the strip IMO. I knew it was there but actually seeing it coming into branson was absolutely amazing. I can't wait to see it with the light show going.
On e done with this, they need to get down to ZDT in Seguin and check out Switchback, a similar coaster would be a great addition for The Track.
I agree. I really think something like that to ride on the strip at night would be really awesome and a great idea for the tracks
This is a compact coaster, something that would have been perfect for a Celebration City type place, maybe The Tracks could do something lime this. Check out the night time lighting at the end. I rode a very similar one at Galveston Pleasure Pier, it was a hoot. A much shorter Mystery Mine with no OTSRs.
http://youtu.be/l2jSGxQnjRg
The lighting effects are amazing. That would be something good for the tracks. One of the things I love about branson are the things up and down the strip, I still love just walking or driving it and just taking it all in. We have talked a lot about sdc doing a coaster over Indian point road but could you imagine seeing that type of lighting on a coaster traveling over 76?
I will see mike haygood this weekend, be interesting to see what progress he has made, and when the official lighting begins...
Hope to see ya some time in the next 2 days, sanddunerider!! Will for sure get a pictures of this BIG ole wheel. :)
Big kickoff is set for this Thursday. the 23rd.. check facebook for current pics, and the grand opening...

The Santa Monica Pier Ferris Wheel is now open in Oklahoma City. The setting is not as interesting, in my opinion, but the owner hopes to attract more to his district.

I was there over the weekend, they had a "special" show at 10 and 10:55. Michael haygood and his group had designed a new program (light show) for the weekend. it was pretty well done.. amazing what they can do with led lights, computer and someone smart enough to put it all together..

Has anyone taken a ride on the new ferris wheel? Unless I missed something I've only seen reviews for the light show. Hows the actual ride? High up there? Worth the money?
It's $12 for an 8 minute ride. $8 for children (I think). Eight minutes gets you one revolution - it travels slow. Yes, I enjoyed it - the views are great. It's not something I'll probably do again soon, but definitely worth it the first time. I'd suggest riding during the day so that you can actually look out around you. Hubs and I went back during the evening to see it lit up and watch the synchronized 4th of July show set to music. It was really cool! I read somewhere about long lines, but we just walked on; no line.

They now need to just go ahead and Fun Spot this place up with a woodie and a couple of park model flats lose a small.track and maybe ditch the bumper boats they already have bumper cars
well there is vacant property to the north, and vacant lots to the east....
I saw the Ferris Wheel for the first time this weekend. It is a fantastic addition to 76. It will become a landmark on Branson. However, in my opinion, it is way too expensive to ride. It cost $44 for our family of four to ride, and you only get to ride for one revolution. The whole experience is less than 10 minutes. I'm glad we did it, but we'll never do it again unless they lower the price significantly.
It's on par with other wheels across the country
I'm sure that was an expensive business venture. Hopefully, they can offer some family discounts in the future.
