Today SDC made a surprise announcement of a new broadway style show for Old Time Christmas: Home For Christmas. https://twitter.com/SDCAttractions/status/1437809559012315141
It looks interesting. I haven't been able to watch the full video with sound yet, but I'm just happy to see renewed investment into shows!
I think it will be nice, but not at the IAWL standard. Biggest takeaways I saw was, 12 performers with a live band. $500K production and they've been working on it for two years. All about traditions of Christmas is what they say.
Probably not very different from similarly-title shows in the past.
I am thinking it will be an expanded version of the show they had outside behind Red Gold last year.
The overall theme is a natural fit for the Ozarks - making music with a log cabin setting. They may surprise me, though, since they are billing is at Broadway-style. Certainly a better-themed fit than IaWL and definitely more Christmasy. We miss the old show from the Opera House (pre-Dickens) that of which this reminds us.
I never had the privilege of seeing that show before Dickens. We didn't start coming to SDC until 2007. I've always liked Dickens and I will admit that I liked IaWL, but am looking forward to something new if it's done right. Of course, when we go at Christmas, we usually are not riding any rides (with exception of train, FITH and FM) so the more shows the better for us.
If you're interested, I just posted a video today with a few short clips and a review of the new show, along with changes to Dickens. It'll give you an idea of what the new show is like.
