TinMan had a great idea...

This gives me an idea, we should do a "scavenger hunt" at the city, via photos, or something, whenever the most of us are able to be there at the same time!
That would be great, even if we could not arrange all to be there at the same time,we could set it up that we were to find X amount of items in X amount of time.
Being honest, and then we could share our results. It would be fun to come up with a list of things...something shiny, something with water etc. it will take some thinking but I think we can figure some method of arranging this.
Let me know your thoughts (This now belongs to TinMann!!! I just started a new thread for it! :) :))
I love this idea. Another great way to get interesting pictures of the places in the city.
What kind of categories?
Hmm they could be different rounds each with different themes, any ideas saloongal?
Or a round about one thing such as Wildfire, or The General Store...I dunno lets Brainstorm ;D
I have a couple thoughts...one would be to make everything very general and open to interpretation. Such as your ideas above (water, shiny, waiting line). The other thought is to be specific...find the hole you shouldn't look in (you know where I mean...I hope). That sounds really bad...but seriously I hope that you know what I mean.
Makes me want to get pictures of the things that have NOT changes since I was a tyke.
I totally get what you mean. I like the "general" themes. In college photography we were given themes such as "I want you to photograph something rusty" and we were to interpret what this was for us, was it old chains, was it an beat up truck, was it our cousin Rusty? I also think that if these are area themed, that we can throw in some of the specific things to look for. Town Square, Restaurants, Rides, Shows, etc.
I am stuck on trying to figure out the # of items on each list...
Maybe instead of a list, we should do a theme or two a month.
For May, may I suggest, Midtown. Some ideas for Midtown this time might be...something soft, or something green. I'm obviously not the most creative one in the bunch...just suggestions.
SDC has a Scavenger Hunt on their web site...

Here are the answers...

That sounds like a fun game. An easy way to do it would be to have assignments of things to take pictures of while you're there. For instance: Take pictures of 5 signs that have the word "?" on it. Or, have your picture taken with certain street characters, entertainers, shop keepers, cave guides, ride attendants, and the like (if they're not there on the day you come...to bad). Or, men- have your picture taken by the door to every woman's restroom on park...women- pictures by the door of all the man's restrooms. Etc. Etc.
A scavenger list of things to take pictures of could be created, then a time frame would probably have to be established since some cannot come at will like others can. Maybe one scavenger list per month? Then, upload and post your pictures.
I'm game, I'll brew on ideas, this weekend. I want to enjoy the "fun" on what we decide, so I'm hoping someone familiar with the park, but unable to participate, can set the guidelines, or maybe we can each sit one out & set the guidelines. Sounds like fun!
I like the scenario with each person sitting out once and a while, that way one person does not have to oversee the whole thing. This breaks it up nicely, and it also allows each person their own "slant" on things. It will keep the game fresh and allow for new and different ideas on the "Hunt".
This sounds like it'd be really fun! I just did something like this, actually. It was stuff like:
Take a picture with a tombstone. (My group used Tombstone pizza).
Take a picture of your group eating dinner at someone's house who is not in your group.
Take a picture of your group with something that start with the letter Z. (Zebra Cakes).
You had to have at least five people from your group in the picture and you had to have everyone in your group in at least half the pictures. Fun stuff like that. It'd be even more fun at SDC.
I think that each one of us that wants to participate should come up with a list of things that we each think should be "found" in the park. Firstly I will go out ahead and say no repeats. With different people running the rounds we need a little consistency. One question is, can one photo count for multiple items? Something like 25 or so possible per round.Lets take a roll call and make a list at who would like to run a round...Any takers?
I would be willing to make a list.
But, like you say, some parameters need to be nailed down first. Might I make the following suggestions:
1) Number of items to find and take pictures of, i.e. how big the scavenger hunt list? It could be 25, 20, 15, or 10. I tend to favor 15 (or just 10) because... thinking ahead- posting your results here on the board could make for some pretty big and cumbersome posts/threads if there are a lot of items.
2) All items on the list must be accessible to the general public. I know Doc, Copper, and I could put things on the list that the GP doesn't have access to.
3) One point per item. Do you think some items on the list should be weighted for extra points depending on the degree of difficulty? This would be up to the maker of the list.
4) Once a contest entrant completes and posts what his results, the list-maker judges and awards points accordingly.
5) Time frame. There's two ways to handle it I'd say:
a) Rounds/lists appear at various times throughout the season- List 1 by So & So, List 2 by Who Made It, List 3 by John Doe, etc...maybe at the beginning of each month. As the lists come out, those people who can't come to the park that month need to make copies of them so they can complete them when they have opportunity to visit. We would wait to tally the points until the end of the season, October or maybe December. This would give people who can't make it out to the park that often time to get into it. People can post their results whenever they have them though so that there's not a bunch to "grade" all at once at the end.
Or b) A list comes out at the beginning of the month, people have the rest of that month to complete it, and then that round is closed. Peoples results must be posted by the end of the first week of the next month. The maker of the list then tallies the points of those who have posted their results with a winner for the round announced. A running total is kept until the end of the season at which time a grand champion is determined.
All I can think of for now. Comments?
I was thinking that a list of 5 might be enough. For the sake of downloading and the sake of hunting (I have 2 lil ones to keep up with).
I am in for making a list.
This is going to be fun!
Like most of my students, I am not good with delayed gratification/rewards, I would choose choice "B" because it lasts a month, and not the whole season. How about we allow each list-poster (I would really like to think of a different name for these people, something like "conductors" or "list-smiths"-something to reflect the park itself other than "Listmaker") to decide on the region/attraction in the park-as long as it has not been done before OR they can pick different items to seek in that area. I am still thinking <10 but >25 So shall each "list-smith" decide how complex their particular challenge shall be? Should our results be posted on here, or elsewhere? I am not endorsing any sites, but I have had success with Photobucket (which can be pasted directly into here) or Flickr (Both are free, and would still allow sufficient space in here for posting-if we attatch photos the space gets filled rather quickly) Let me know your thoughts, and we will be up and running soon! My first list is being formed right now!
After you guys are done with this - it just depends on the day whether I can participate - how about an Amazing Race style challenge - this would be a step up from the scavenger hunt concept with actual challenges at various places. SDC might even want copies of the things we come up with for this type of experience at the park.
I'll add that all park rules MUST be followed at all times while we are contesting.
Maybe instead of a scavenger hunt, you do a "gumball rally"
You have to ride every ride, visit the cave, see every show. First group to do it wins.
'Course that would involve everyone meeting up, but I say "why not?"
I'm a member of another "fan" site for a defunct park, and each year, they take a poll of several dates, to see when the most members can show up at the site, at the same time. They usually visit the former park, then all get together at a local eatery & share stories, pictures, souvenirs, etc.. We should do something like that, to have a "live" scavenger hunt, once a year, that would be fun!
I'm still excited about a once a month scavenger hunt, that way those that can't go that often, will still get a shot at the fun.
See what you started tinman! I took initiative to start it up cause I got so excited with the possibilities.
Anything to get me to the park BRING IT ON!!!
I like the idea of attractions that have set times (salloon, GCA, cave tours fudgemaking etc) being attended in the live hunt scenario because anyone can find Terry for a photo most any time of the day, but you need to time it just right to get to the waterfall room on a cave tour + all other things when the cave tours are still being done before a certain time.
I know you guys have been talking about doing a scavenger hunt. I noticed in this week's (Aug. 17-23) Pathfinder News on page 6 there's a little activity called Edna May's Scavenger Hunt. Have any of you ever done it before?
It's kind of a silly thing - really for first-timers, and the answers are in the Pathfinder, as well.
I think a scavenger hunt is brilliant, and I wanna play. Lets do this!
1. Picture with Undertaker.
2. Picture in the mandatory Coffin.
3. 5 pink foam balls forming a circle.
4. A lopsided tree.
Just some ideas.....
