OK.
You can look at the last two seasons of the game to see it in action:
2008: http://sdcfans.com/forums/index.php?topic=292.0 (http://sdcfans.com/forums/index.php?topic=292.0)

It's the most popular board on the forum. Rubedugans has taken over as the host in recent months. A picture is posted of an item, a sign, or a portion of such. The first person to correctly identify its location in the park gets a point. And even though I started the game, I really stink at playing it. I think of the people around here have memorized every item in the park.
Look for the game to begin as soon as Rube or I visit the first time this season. I predict that he will be there long before I make it out.
"High-OOOOOOOO.....YOU ARE CORRECT SIR" I will get the ball rolling this season. I have a lot to do, but I always make time for SDC Fans Where in the City!! I am going to be there this week, so I will have some 2010 images. Yes, some new items may be included, but that's the beauty of the game, it will allow you to look for new things next time! I will try to stick to some mainstays for a few rounds just to get all a chance that aren't spring-breakers this week! We'll start on Monday 3/22!
I am privileged to defer to your energy, sir. You rock!
It's almost time for the opening ceremonies of the game with the lighting of the torch candle at Carrie's Candles Shop! ;)
Nope.... It's not open till april. ???
I'm just teasing, and making a play on this game like the opening of the Olympics. :)
We could make a new game: What's under the snow?
I do have plenty of photos like that from yesterday!!! Stay tuned for this years first where in the city sometime today...
Alrighty everyone,I need to know the what and where for what you see! First correct posting gets a point! We'll start off easy...

To me it looks like it might be on the side of Carries Candles.. Looks like that wood siding.

Is that the Hobo station on the train?
Is it in the valley near the bottom of the Thunderation Track? ??? Seems like there's a hobo camped out down there somewhere.
I'm gonna guess it's somewhere near American Plunge; that bridge in the back looks like it's from that area.
EDIT: To clarify, the bridge looks like the one just north of the knife shop.
Looks like the stream that goes down along Hill Street. It appears to be about halfway up the hill.
Forget my previous post...it's the American Plunge channel and the bridges that cross over the channel
The Plunge is correct! I am going to give it to Tinaalsgirl for getting it first. Junior however nailed down more of the specifics....

Could it be at the American Plunge where the boats go into the wooden structure just prior to climbing the hill?
I agree it has to be part of the lift hill on American Plunge. Is that PowederKeg in the background, or are my eyes teasing me? :o
I think it is where you come out of the wooden tunnel on American Plunge while starting the lift hill.

Good eyes! Wow.
^Those all sound like good guesses to me (and, yes, that definitely looks like Powderkeg in the background), but is Rube's silence suggestive of the fact that nobody has properly identified it yet?? Stay tuned, friends, for the exciting conclusion...
jim owens float trip?
Yes I am a hands off- management type of guy. Though those were all in the ballpark, however not quite there, so I was just letting the guesses stew for a bit!
This is what it still remaining from Jim Owens float trip. Though parts were used for the plunge, this portion is not. This can now bw found directly next to the "Powderkeg" wagon in the queue line for Powderkeg.

Hmmmmmmmm...I worked at Jim Owens' Float Trip in 1979. I don't see anything left over from then in the shot. Not unless this is part of the old River Gang Clubhouse scene, or a portion of the old tunnel/cave, or something removed from the ride and brought over to a new location...the wagon is not from the float trip, to the best of my memory. Of course, it's been 31 years...Hmmmmmmmmm...
AHHHH! This one's really bugging me! If it's from the old float trip. I have not been in line for Powderkeg, so I am not familiar with the way things are laid out off the main pathways in this portion of SDC. (It was all woods when I worked there.) I'll take two guesses...1) part of the old River Gang Club House scene 2) the old float trip boat lift station used to pull float trip passenger boats out of water for service and repair. The only other structure along the float trip was the old cave/tunnel, which, to my understanding, wore out and was replaced with a concrete tunnel used today on the plunge.
Since rubedugans is being so deviously quiet on this one I guess I will go ahead and spill the can of beans. ;) Based on my observation this is definitely the lift hill on the American Plunge!
Here is a picture similar to rubedugan's.

We know TInman is the expert, so I may defer to him on this one for the ruling, Heck he has so many photos he might as well run the game! I will get back with the verdict this evening-and if I hurt anyones feelings, sorry, but its all in good fun.

Candy shop? Taffy wrapping machine?
NO! I'd say one of the penny pressing machines. Probably located in Ozark Marketplace!
It is indeed a candy roller machine, but I think it must be in the candy shop, not the taffy store. I think this machine is used for hard candies. The candy material would be heated and poured into this press, where it would be pressed into a cylinder (or stick) with rounded ends. They would be called humbugs. These would likely have been enjoyed by the likes of Laura Ingalls after a trip "into town", but they were enjoyed more in the winter because the candy would come out of the press nice and warm. It would be nice to see something like this in action at Christmas, as the candy shop switched over to making peppermint sticks and candy canes for their demonstration instead of the same old peanut brittle all year long.
So anyway, though I've missed this display, I would have to guess it is in the candy store. Wherever it is, I will look for it the next time I visit.
I was going to venture a guess (that had nothing to do with candy) until History Buff explained perfectly how "humbugs" are little molded hard candies from the olden days. Makes so much sense that I know my guess would have been wrong.
OK, here's the run-down on the previous photo: You are all right & a little wrong, haha. Sorry, Rube, no where near the PK queue line, it's the abandoned one for Wild Fire! ;D After you walk under AP, through the "tunnel", you hang a right by the lockers. It's the extended line for WF, seldom used. It's also the remnants and unused props for Jim Owens'.
All that said, I've sat this one out, until I see one of Rube's photos I haven't taken myself! ::)
AHHHH...I meant Wildfire!!!!......Not Powderkeg, and I didn't even question it! But nonetheless it IS Jim Owens , so the point stands!
As for the next one it is a Humbug Cutting Machine for candies (not taffy)
It is in Brown's Candy Shop have fun finding it, that is part of the fun!
I am awarding a point to Junior for the correct location, and a point to HB for his thorough research on Humbugs! (No this will not happen every time so don't try to write me any research papers on the objects...but since this one was fairly obscure to some, I went with it! and since he runs the game "officially" I have to pay homage to hiim! j/k) ;D

QuoteHey, I'll take a point...I'm just happy to be "on the board!" Smiley

How about the Inventor's Warehouse at Wildfire?
Since nobody seems to have correctly guessed this yet, I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that it's in the Ozark Marketplace over the door where they keep the Package Pickup stuff until you're ready to leave!
^I thought about that too. Great minds...

Well, I guess there is so much going on around you at this place that you fail to look up going in. NO it isn't new. And think about a warehouse..."a commercial building for storage of goods ; usually large buildings in industrial areas of cities and towns"...or basically a house for wares/commodities. I'll let it go with the hint for another day or two, and see what happens....GAME ON...AGAIN!
brown's candy factoy?

grandfathers mansion
Grandfather's Mansion would be a logical choice.
However, since it looks like Santa Clause, and the background is red, Im going to guess that he is at Christmas Hollow!
Daughter Ashley says it's at Lost River of the Ozarks!
Hmm. I thought this was a fairly common place for people to go, but I guess I am just plain different! So far no correct answers, keep a guessin!

Yes indeed it is! good eye!
Well teach me something new once again! I had never known that building used to be the old Stagecoach Depot. Interesting! :)
Is it really? AWESOME!
When they discontinued the stagecoach rides in the early 80's, the building sat there with no use except as an atmosphere building. A stagecoach was parked under an awning alongside the building. The upper story did get some use as an office for a foods department manager. Don't know when the building got the rehab for use as the onion patch, but SDC is always good about figuring out something new to do with old buildings and so on. Hey Rube, LET'S GET BACK TO THE GAME! How about another photo?

I'm just teasing. :D You are correct however, this is on the blue fence just outside of the Brown's Candy Factory. It sits just below a giant sign that reads "Brown's Candy. Sold at most general stores."
It's at the gate leading to First Aid, by Brown's Candy Factory.
Blue Fence/ First Aid area it is. Ozark BBQ pegged it, Zephon named it, I am going to go out on a limb and award 1/2 credit to each-I don't wanna start any competitive problems, or any overly lengthy descriptions in future items (ie: The 9 ft pine blue painted fence with 1/8" gaps held together with standard nails facing South East that lies between the North side of Flossie's Fried Fancies and the South side of Brown's Candy Factory-The fence is just off from the main promenade past.......) You get it...it is all in good fun.

While I appreciate the courtesy, you can give Zephon the whole point since he technically said it first. This is like the T.V. show "Whose Line Is it Anyway?" where everyone wins, and the points don't matter. ;D
Unless there is a prize at the end that no one has told me about? :P
Yes you do get something Ozark! A free tour of Marvel Cave A free sample of peanut brittle from Brown's candy factory, a free piece of taffy from Phoebe Snapp's, a free sample of honey, a free sample of apple butter, hand sanitizer and free rides on SDC's world famous coasters!(all with paid admission of course!)
Mmm you had me convinced already at peanut brittle.... :D
Since I didn't get credit on the last one (even though I was with in feet of the correct answer), I am asking for a re-ruling on #19. That sign IS NOT on the pavilon barn.
Thanks Zalo I will indeed check it this weekend. My memory -which sometimes is like a peach(fuzzy) serves me that this is on the side of the pavilion that faces echo hollow. You pass this sign while walking towards the red/gold heritage area/ grand exposition....But as I said I will double check for you, and I need to start writing some down as I take them, as to I don't forget them before usin' them!
Yippee...I'm on the board with 1/2 of a point. I guess you would think that because I work there, I should know where all this stuff is, but the truth is, I walk from the parking lot to my place of work and back, or from my place of work to the employees lounge and back. I don't really walk around the park all that much and on the rare occasion that I do, it's usually point to point, with a singular purpose in mind. I don't wander around looking at stuff very much at all, so I really have no clue on most of these pictures. I just happened to know this one because I go through that gate almost every day. Nevertheless, I do look at all the pictures that you guys post on the off chance that one of them might stick in my mind. Most of the time there's five or six guesses before I ever get a look at them. I'll keep trying though...I'm in it for the fun.

Taking a wild guess...is this on what was known as the candy and cream shop located in the Riverfront? This building, currently used for some type of food service...snacks, ice cream, or something, would be located directly across the street from RiverBlast. If this is one of those signs posted in SDC to honor a long time employee, I remember a Pauline working with me in foods in 1979...maybe it's to honor her.
Sorry Junior it is not there.
taffey shop?
nope orient...
I'll guess "Brown's Candy Factory"!
saloon?
Pastor is the closest in location so far, however it is not the candy factory....
The left side of the funnel cake shop - across from the candy factory.

Seems to obvious though...hmmm?
If it's not the woodcarvers shop, I'd say the furniture factory.
I agree that the Woodcarvers Shop is the obvious guess...a little too obvious! ;) To me, something about it suggests the Hospitality House!
That "wood" be too obvious wood'nt it? No it is not the woodcarvers nor is it any of the guesses thus far.
I am going to guess the apple butter house
I think thats more of a "know" than a "guess"!!! Yes it is the Apple Butter Shop-The former Ellison Basket Works. This door is inside leading to...who knows where it leads to...it was produced by Valley Road, but does not reside there.

The last photo was a good one...I never would have thought of that spot at all. Also, I'm glad to know they still pay some attention to detail like that. When we took apart the float trip mill interior after it was being made into the plunge, I was amazed at some of the things hanging on the walls and laying on a desk in an area of the mill that could only be viewed by guests from some distance.
Often overlooked and one of a kind Places like this one?
(If someone gets this one, they had to have either a.)been watching me take photos, b.)been to the park more than me(I can only think of a few-those that work there, and TinMan qualify for this one, or c.) hacked into my master list of these things, because I have been there hundreds of times, and have never stopped to look at this place before my last visit)

Is it on the Outside of the Truss Bridge?
Hmm I had a feeling this one wasn't gonna grab anyone. Tinman always surprises me, as do some of the others on here, but I think this one is gonna be out soon. Head towards the riverfront, maybe you'll have better luck down there....

I wonder if that isn't outside the upper exit door at the Playhouse.

nope not there! and Yes I agree that the word "homeoepathic " does look odd...keeep a' going!
Going for the obvious here: how's about the medicine wagon stage?
One would think that, but that would be incorrect. It is on something that you would ingest.
Honey Heaven shop?
"Let food be your medicine," Hippocrates implored a couple of thousand years ago. Honey remains one of the best food/medicine choices , however it is not the location of this sign in SDC...a few more tries and we'll move along
I will take a wild guess, and just say it's on the side of the new rainmaker wagon on park. You have been doing a good job of stumping me with the last several photos, and since I cannot make out where these signs are posted, I know I am way overdo to visit the park again, to spy out where everything is!
Mary's Spring House?
is it on one of the popcorn / drink wagons ?
wild guess...opera house?
Dippin Dots - Grand Expo
(Are there Dippin Dots in the Grand Expo?)
The popcorn wagon near The Waterboggan?
The drink cart by the saloon line
How about near the homemade furniture shop
Arctic Lemonade Wagon just outside the Southwest corner of the Saloon.
Ohh this ought to be pretty difficult, a few people had the location, a few had the place, and one had all of them put together correctly....
Pastor Don-Yes it
IS a drink wagon...to narrow your query ;D
The answers
Saloongal- Yes that is correct location
I would have asked who knew which one for a bonus on this one...

It's gettin' full at the top here...lets try to separate them a bit....
Oh my.
By the sitting/eating area that overlooks where they used to do the log-rolling (behind lumberjack camp)
HB???? I had to get a hard one in there since 49-51 were pretty easy ones!
No saloongal it isn't the upper level of the Lumberjack camp.
Random knowledge: Female Lumberjacks are typically called Lumberjills.
Well, that electrical insulator looks a bit modern for SDC...looks like it might be from the 1920s-1950's...hummmmmm.....where could it be on park? Lumbercamp area ya say???
Easy ones and lucky timing is what made it possible for me to climb into the upper ranks, though. It's a little strategery on my part.
Junior, that's exactly what I thought. Electric insulator? 1880? And the background is blurred just enough to be annoying. Anyway, just to get my feet wet, I'll say the homestead area. I know that's not right, but maybe we can rule it out.
Insulators have been used ever since Samuel Morse transmitted the first telegraph message over a short telegraph line along a railroad between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, MD in 1844. Glass insulators were first manufactured in the 1850s for use with telegraph lines that were rapidly expanding across America. In the 1920s electricity and telephone signals moved over open copper wire. At each pole glass insulators were used. Growing up around these...I am guessing that this one if from between 1930-1960. Without seeing the marks I cannot tell if it is a Hemmingray, American Insulator Co, Duquesne Co, etc...
And no, it is nowhere in the lumbercamp, and no it is not in the homestead area.
^Probably not so much in the Ozarks though.
Anyway, it wouldn't be the only thing that didn't belong in 1880. Coke was invented in 1886, so since this year is 1880, the official sponsor is still a gleam in John Pemberton's eye.
How 'bout Wilson's Farm? There's a menagerie of pickins in that area.
Ashley's Tintype Photography?
i asked my daughter if she knew where it was . her response was thats like takin a pic of a silver dollar on the ground and askin where it is .. and dont get any ideas !
I can say that this is the ONLY one of these insulators that I have seen in the park. I knew this one might be a bust, but we will see.
Looks like a Hemmingray. I used to collect glass insulators. Still love looking at 'em when I run across them.
i'm gonna guess up on the square ...... ???
Hemmingray was my first choice from my photo...I'll look closer when I go to the park. And NO don't follow me all day just to find this! I have been Junior known to harvest a few when I have the time. My Pops and I have all the colors of the rainbow of insulators, But my favorites are the blue that we have found.
And nope, keep a guessin'
Outside the Red Gold Heritage Hall?
Well, in the 1880's insulators went with telegraph and telegraph went with railroads so I'm guessin' the Train Depot.
Thunderation..?
I'm just gonna go sight unseen on this (can't see the pics on this forum on my phone); I looked up a pic of Hemmingray glass insulators on Google Images...
My very wild guess: somewhere in the theming in the indoor queue line for Wildfire...?
I'll go out on a limb and say the rainmaker wagon..new one..."rain, rain, it's like water on the brain." Everybody has a little bit of electricity in 'em.
I like Don's entry. It's just educated enough to be right.
Outside the mill/mine restaturants.
All good attempts, however it is not there....
Under the treehouse?
It appears to have a bit of moss growing underneath it. So probably somewhere around damp conditions...Geyser Gulch?
Or around the American Plunge.....
And we have a winner! It is taken from one of the upper levels of Geyser Gulch (Notice the people in the background, and the size difference) If you hadn't been up there, I didn't think you would have gotten it, but the moss gave it away Great Job!

Yeah, it's the mine cart winch at The Mill/Mine Complex...above the exit pathway of the Mill. I'm glad to see it's still there. I used to love watching that cart go back and forth...I don't know why. Guess it's like watching grandpa move the curtain at the mansion...one of those little touches that make SDC special.
The mine cart is not pulled by a big wheel like this one. I am positive that it is the entrance to the LumberCamp.

Land of Forgotten crafts area
Good Ole Gene! Started at SDC around 82. Worked at the log cabin building project on the town square. The cabin was to be a showcase of SDC craftsmen. It was to be offered for sale at the end of the year. Never sold. The cabin was moved into the wooded area and now serves as the basket shop. Gene did a lot of different things around park, and his picture for years was on the SDC BBQ sauce bottle you saw in your local stores. He has aged, and last I heard, Gene pretty much restricted himself to the Hospitality House where he hands out pathfinders. Don't know what he's up to now...maybe he's retired. Gene lives east of Branson in a little area adjacent to Lake Taneycomo. Many years ago my wife and I drove through the heavily wooded neighborhood he lives in, and were greeted by a large herd of deer who were only slightly offended we were driving past the yards they were grazing in.
-
Oh....as for where the sign is placed...um, I'll say somewhere in the vicinity of where the little stream or creek runs along hill street...around the leather shop or gun/knife shop. It's just a guess.
Giant Barn Swing area?
That's the right Gene, not the right place though...I saw Gene just last week at the front of the park greeting people at the Cave desk in the Hospitality House...Keep Guessing
The signage looks "new" (on a side note...not sure I'm a fan of the screen-printed-to-look-old) so based on where Gene has been hanging out lately, I'm guessing just outside of the Hospitality House heading to the square.
It felt like this was a citizen addition, and not quite an SDC addition. I know it is not there though Mike!
I'm gonna guess it's at the well on the north side of McHaffie's.
I haven't see this sign at all, and I wonder what you mean by "citizen's addition". Could this be in the entry area, in the vicinity of the water clock.
It is at the well at McHaffies (ar atleast on the building next to the well) I meant that this did not seem to have the same "look" as the citizen honorees. This seemed like a cheap $15 screen printed plaque screwed into the wall-I meant it looked as if SDC did not place it there, that someone else did in tribute to Gene. If in fact this is an SDC tribute to Gene....It could've been done a whole lot better....Not much imagination/or hand crafted art in it.
Zephon it is!!

I think a lot of the old machinery connected to the mining industry was purchased in the Joplin area back in the late 50s, early 60s where the lead mining industry in Missouri used to be. Seems like I'd read something about this in one of the books I've got about the ozarks.

Is this the back of the culinary house facing echo hollow???
or the side of the funnel cake stand same place???
I've walked by that lattice work a million times on my way to lunch....the Citizen Cafeteria next to the Candy Factory backstage!
FYI....the Golden Ticket awards are like the "Oscars" for theme parks and I can't think of a better category for SDC to win. When I was the Ambassador for WDW in 2007, I accepted two of those for our property. Each year they hold the festivities at a host park and for that year it was at Dollywood. You could imagine my excitement being dressed in full Disney gear walking around Dollywood, a HFE property! It was like homecoming!!!
I think Betamike is correct, though I would have said the side or backside of the Mill Restaurant. Is that the same thing, or am I in the wrong place?
Technically it is adjacent to the Candy Factory, next to First Aid, behind the double wooden gate and Behind the Mill restaurant, perpendicular to the Marvel Cave entrance (by a bit), on top of Costuming and across the holler from Thunderation main lift hill.
::)
betamike, you were still here when they put that lattice work up? I didn't think it had been up that long. You are correct, of course...it is at the entrance to the employee lounge.
Yep. Well, either that or I've seen it a few times each year since then.
BetaMike has this one in the bag! I figured this would be a citizen to get this one, or "exchange students" in BetaMike's case! I know a few on here have been that way, some as workers, some as guests, I unfortunately had to just snap photos from afar.

I have used several smokestacks on here...let's see if anyone can spot this one....
Buckshot Annie's?
Part of the roof on PowderKeg.....
i believe that is on top of the building that houses the kiln for the pottery shop .. it sits right behind the hillcreek pottery and backs up too the smoking area by huffs gallery .
Well, wherever this is, that is one brand-spanking new smoke stack. I am inclined to say the Dockside Grill by the Scrimshaw place.
riverside ribhouse?
I say to look that new and the roof to be shinny also that it also has to be in the employee area. Usually when they are out in the park they are made to look a little older that that thing looks.
I will register the following proposition: it is the swirly potato place adjacent to the Lumberjack hamburgers.
Alright to end the debate it is exctly where tomncyndi guessed:
On top of the kiln for the pottery shop .. it sits right behind the hillcreek pottery and backs up too the smoking area by huffs gallery .
Great Job speculating though!

Shoot, you beat me to it. I don't ever get a chance to be the first to see one because of my work schedule...durn it.
Across from the treehouse..
I'm with How-Do. More precisely it's next to Big Jack's. It's the back of that large building that houses the buildings on the west end of Main Street. I believe there's also an employee-only area right next to this.
I also think it's in mid town. The give away for me is the Court House sign. In old park maps from the 60's when mid town was new, that's where the court house was located. In fact, that is probably an original sign.

Man! This kinda stinks, LOL! I wish I could play this but I wouldnt have much of a clue to where some of these things are. I have been to SDC twice in thirty years so I dont think I would do very well, but if I think I have one, I might jump in! :D
True, some of these are mainstays of SDC, but others are in fact things that separate the die hard SDC addicts from the casual SDC visitor...It is fun for all, and top players are great sometimes about allowing others opportunities for easy ones, Jump in if you can Andy...more to come later today/ tomorrow!

Don't worry Andy. I go to SDC multiple times every year, and I've only been really sure about a handful of them. And I only guessed first on those handful once!
Hey, Andy, I made up the game and I only get the easy ones.
Andy I think you are just trying to talk yourself into visiting sdc more often. Like everyday for a month :). Hope to run into you there soon.
Andy, don't feel bad...I work there and they stump me all the time.
Thanks for the support, folks. I didnt think I would get the outpouring of backslapping that I have and I appreciate it. See, most, if not all, of you know these places. When I was at SDC in 1980, I was a kid wanting to ride rides and eat. Didnt care what places had names and so forth. Then I went back in 2008 and, of course, you cant read and remember everything you saw and went by in one visit after 28 years. I guess what I am saying is that I see you guys talk about Mollie's or Sullivan's Mill and you call different places by their names. But if you took me there tonight, I couldnt tell you where any of those were if I was standing in front of it. So, it's not just the pics of stacks or signs, but I wouldnt even know the place to put them with because I have no clue what these places have on them or what signs are where?! I know I went the long way telling you all this, but hopefully I made it a little more clear.
I will give it a shot if I have an inkling of an idea, LOL!
Oh, and I forgot, pintrader....I dont need to talk myself into anything! I am already like a cat dug into the ceiling upside down in anticipation of getting back there as fast as humanly possibly in any way shape, form or fashion!! This site and you guys are what is easing that drive to get back. *Sigh* But, you know.....life and finances and crap like that! If I had the money for a good visit to the park and a couple days lodging, I would probably walk all the way there! :D ;) :o
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to let go the ceiling now. My nails are killing me!
Andy, I visited SDC every single year from the early '70s to the mid '80s, then had a gap until 1998, then one more visit in 2009.
In the last round of this game, I still managed to score two (I think), but I recognized several more but couldn't answer in time.
This round is more challenging than the previous games. It focuses in on details in places most visitors might not even see. I could only guess at most of the pictures in this round, so I didn't bother.
That's okay, Rube is keeping it challenging.
I've been every year since 1972 without fail and even worked there as a citizen but I still have trouble with some of these. Okay...MOST of these. ;D
Still, I love the concept and it has forced me to think about this same type of thing at WDW. You all have got me looking at planters, railings, posters and rooftops here!
When I was posting the pictures in the first couple of rounds, I would come to a shot I had taken myself and couldn't think of its location. I even thought of taking a notebook and keeping tabs of the locations as I took the pictures - but I didn't want to spend all my time at the park "working" so hard. :P
Y'all are making me feel bad here! I am not trying to stump anybody! I, as we have found, have had trouble once and a while with some of my own photos as well HB. Many of the "easy" ones have come about in the last few rounds, I have different angles, closeups, and usually something in the photos that give hints. When playing the last few years I would always look at the photo, and try to guess before looking at the responses...Since the points don't really matter, but braggin' rights are givin out to everyone!

my guess is this one is in the Grand Exposition...but I cannot get more specific.

Somewhere in the Homestead? I have no idea...
Apple Butter Shop?
Well, obviously ol' Rube is trying to narrow the field at the top, so I have no clue where this is located. A couple of observations, though, that might help those who do have a clue:
*The object in the lower right hand corner appears to be a water shut-off valve. So I would say this is in a kitchen or bathroom area.
*The "L" brackets used to hold the wall to the floor and the screws used to hold the ancient looking boards together suggest something that was built within the last few years, but made to look old. The discoloration and deterioration at the bottom of the boards suggests to me an area that has been mopped quite often.
*The crock appears to be brand new and is in a spot that appears to have been cut out for it. What it's doing there...I have no clue!
I honestly thought that this was an easy one. Sometimes I search out the obscure, this one was literally right in front of me every visit. Sorry bout the difficulty if it is bothering you all, It makes us all look around right?
It IS an area with heavy, heavy traffic, probably more than any oter place in the park, so mopping and cleaning of this place is logical.
The crock is newer, and the boards are indeed antiqued to look older than they are for the atmosphere of it all.
The crock holds a very good purpose, and once you figure it out, you'll think about it every time you walk into this place.
keep a guessin!

Could this sign be over the wagonworks restaurant on main street?
is it on the building where they do the old time photos????
I think tomncyndi is right, but if that isn't right, my guess would be the stroller rental place.

It's adjacent to the tintype shop...just prior to going under the railroad tracks into the Riverfront area. Across from the saloon.
junior's probably right, but at first glance I thought of that corner by the Opera House close to the exit to Fire in the Hole and the giant cookie stand.
I'm going to guess out in front of McAffie's Homestead, where people sit to watch the Homestead Pickers.
I'm going to go with closer to the square area.
It is in front of the homestead like tinaalsgirl stated! Many have sat here listening to stories, or the pickers...The water is from the sprinkler set up at the edge of the kids area for kids fest.

I hate that modern plastic sprinkler and all the others like it.
WOOT! I guess all the time I have spent hanging around the Homestead this year is starting to pay off, LOL.
I agree. I believe the sprinkler with the visible hose is very 1980's instead of 1880's.
Bury the hose and put a mister or sprinkler head on the end, sticking out of the corner of the garden. Problem solved. Was that so hard?

I'm takin' a wild guess here..
The place where the wood birdhouses are made, its alil' behind & left of the restrooms & Hosptality House when ya walk in. Cant think of a correct name tho'....
^ Yep. Either that or over at the Lathe by the American Plunge.
what about the place where they do the baskets??
Looks like a bundle of cedar shingles made by the guys that run the big Case engine. Don't know if they still use the old engine...but it used to be (in 78 and 79) set up right where RiverBlast is now, previously where Tom Sawyer's Landing was. That old steam engine cranked for hours per day, and the crew made cedar shingles. Do they still do that? That old engine could be put into service during the Fall Harvest Festival thing.
How-do has it, even though he couldn't think of the name, he knew Where In The City it was. The engine has moved several times Junior, but it currently resides next to the old Basket Shop (The Apple Butter Shop, In front of Birdle's Cabin, next to the side exit/ restrooms from the Hospitality House, and behind/ next to the Taffy shop (the old doll shop).

Wilson's Farm?
Between the Ozark Marketplace and the Hospitality House
I'm gonna guess that's at a little shop called Outdoor Missouri, on Hill Street just up the hill from the lathe.
I thought this was going to be a bit more perplexing, however Pintrader got it outta the gates. It is below a statue under a pavillion in GE. Maybe it is because I rarely go back there that I figured this was a hard one!

On one of the ticket booths at the main entrance to the park
There is a little hewn log structure on the parking lots at the main entrance that some of the parking lot folks have worked out of. I think that is what the photo is a picture of.
Is this the little building in the parking lot where you pay for preferred parking? I may be guessing the same little building that Junior is talking about.
Yeah, I think that's the building he's talking about, and I do also think that is the correct answer.
Junior has it first...it is the parking lot building that houses the fine ladies and gentlemen that take your money to park 300yds closer to the entrance.

Is that building still in existence? I thought that building was removed with the renovated parking lot? On the other hand, I could have completely dreamed it. :D
It was gunna be my guess also cuz i just saw that sign a month ago, we parked there. But, Junior was just too fast.

the shop by lake silver.... on the riverfront. cant think of its name, across the way from riverfront playhouse?
I want to guess White River Mercantile
yea beta! thats the place.. had complete brain fade on the name. lol
dockside theater?
Riverfront Traders.
Just to be different, I am going to guess the Boatworks Theater just down from the old Waterboggan site. :)
Tom & Huck's Everything You Need Store?
ok rube, i think one of us got it...... please tell...
Yes in fact someone DOES have it, well 2 people have it really...
This is a sign that hangs both IN the dockside Theater, AS WELL AS on the Dockside theater wall that attaches to/ makes up the White River Mercantile.
Points go to the following...(I am giving out an unprecedented and never to be repeated 3 this round since there were multiple answers) I know it is alot, but like it has been said in the past...it is like whose line is it anyway...the points don't really matter...just like the word "international" in International House of Pancakes!

Hey, is that the Cracker Barrel in Branson? :D
It looks very reminiscent of a place somewhere between Powder Keg, and Wildfire. Unfortunately, I cannot think of a more specific spot than that. :-\
The flower bed across from the Magic show/ThuNderaTion area?
is it near the round a bout over by the huck finns tree house?
HEY TRAMS!!! watch that language.. we try not to use the word "round-a-bout" here! LOL!
Near Reunion Hall on the square.
keep it going y'all...your not quite there yet!
theres a garden section where they showed off plants and the like. we took pictures but I cant for the life of me think of where it is......so my guess is in the flower/plant garden
OK.. i am going to guess also.. Nail barral: behind/near the Blacksmith shop

Do you realize how many flower plant gardens there are sprawled throughout Silver Dollar City? :P
Actually, I would like to do a contest someday to count how many barrels there are in Silver Dollar City. Fifty? One hundred? ;D
I'm gonna guess the smoking area across from the train station
I am going to guess near the Saloon Show.
well rube? how close r we?
Not very...steer yourselves a bit towards Lake Silver...Though there are 3-4 of these in the park, they are all in the same spot-this one was just the most photogenic!
The old Waterboggan area?
I will take a stab and say around the Riverfront Playhouse?
Perhaps in the area right in front of the bathrooms close to the Riverfront Playhouse?
Guess Number 2: The smoking area on the backside of the pottery shop across from LROTO observation area
The restroom area, and the smoking area are both excellent guesses! ;D
Just for the sake of guessing I am going to say next to the Dockside Grill.
OKOK!@!! I Know! I know!! It is between RB and GG.. and in the area between the lake and the railroad crossing... ;D ;D LOL.
The Smoking Area near RiverBlast?
gosh, this sucks! i know we'v all seen this but just cant grasp where its at.... then we he tells ya, ya'r like - "OH YEAH, DUH!!" ::)
yep how-do your right.. thats the part i am waiting for..... "" DUH""""
I don't know about you guys but I just don't remember seeing this at the park. It's hard to tell just how big the barrel is. It don't look that big but maybe those leaves are bigger than they look. We all have seen a million barrels at SDC but I just don't remember one with the word nails on it :).
We have a winner from a few guesses ago...sometimes I get caught up in seeing what people say! :D!
In fact these barrels reside outside the Riverfront Playhouse-PAST the bathrooms-Before the smoking area-ACROSS from the Dockside Grill. So your guess was right Pintrader! You were the first to even mention the playhouse so it is yours! AND IT IS ALL TIED UP!

OK, I wonder if I've got this figured out. Some of you guys must either live on this site, or your cell phones are set to ring when Rube posts a picture in this thread. Most of the time, points have already been awarded before I even see a picture for the first time.
well zephon.. ???... Looks to me like if you only live 12 MINUTES away, you might check this site more often. ::)..LOL.. ;D OR are you too busy driving those 12 MINUTES and going to SDC all the time.. How many times have you been to SDC this year??
Ok, here we go.. Yes we are on this site, ALOT. Once about 5:30 in mornin', & then once in the evenin'. And last night we kinda cheat'd & pull'd up the SDC site & look'd at all the restaurants, & that 1 word looks like it says Franks.. So, we took a wild guess & got'r right. Sneaky, yet quite legal.
Zephon don't you work at Silver Dollar City? Perhaps I am confusing you with someone else. Either way, you are close enough to where Rube has to post the pictures at odd hours to give us "far away" folks a chance to scratch our heads first.
I am just teasing. ;)

Alas Junior, the print shop is no more, >:( the whole building has been converted to a tin type shop. That would be my guess to0, but since others have already guessed it, good luck to ye.
Mmmm....he's right ya'all, it isn't there!
didja see didja see!!!!??? I made it to the coveted board o points! Finally vindicated after 6 long months!!!
a woodworkin shop....yes its vauge but hey that way I am coverin all bases
If it's not in the TinType shop, there is a press that looks almost exactly like that right next to the door in the TinType shop. I just saw it a few hours ago.
hey rube did i make the right guess with the tintype shop or do we need to keep guessing ?
Alright, In my ripe old age, I have forgotten exactly where this was! I thought it was one place, but it made me think otherwise on the guesses after a few people chimed in. I am gonna put this one on hold, and open it back up after I can get there this month....while we are waiting I am going to start another one.....

Kinda looks like an upper part of Grandfather's Mansion.
partial credit...what else is in the photo... or from where is it taken...
It looks like a view from Cowboy Jepp's looking at Grandfather's Mansion. The photo was taken from Main Street looking up at the side between Cowboy Jepp's and the General Store.
The grayish-blue structure looks like it might be part of the cubicle? that sits on top of the General Store.
Yes, Jepps from the square lookin at G-Father's Mansion

#101-#107 Different concept...SPEED ROUND!
I'll take this round of the game through the 31'st...
For this round you can guess up to TWO of the following....Just trying to fit a good amount in at the last minute while giving more than the early birds a chance...Remember only two guesses for each player (not two per photo-just two out of the 7 posted so pick two that you know! They do not need to be in any order, simply post the # you are guessing, and your guess! Good Luck!

Hey rube, i have not seen u online this much all year!!! Having fun??
#107 Geyser Gulch?
Fool's Gold has a unique taste. It does look like foam insulation but to me it tastes like the crispy part of the top of creme brulee but it melts in your mouth.
And Thats Game Folks! #107 goes to Tomncyndi. I removed Geyser Gulch from the top of the logo in an attempt to not give away the location. That means the final score is....

THIS MEANS...
That Pintrader joins the ranks of past winners on our wall of fame:
2008- Swoosh
2009- Rubedugans
2010- Pintrader
It was great running this game this season everyone, I would like to thank all who participated-this is what made it fun for me. I love looking for those odd, and overlooked places in the park, and I look forward to yet another round of the game starting in a few months!
This season we had:
A total of 107 photos to guess
(2009 we only had 84 photos and 2008 we had 78)
We had 27 people on the score board
And hopefully a whole lotta' fun!
Thanks Rube, for all your hard work running the game this year. And I salute those at the top of the leaderboard. Your knowledge of the intricasies of the park is astounding!
Wow! You guys sure know SDC backwards and forwards. I just hope the next round of WITC isnt pictures of blacktop pebbles with the question "Where is this pebble laying?" :D :D :D :D
Or....a picture of one single leaf with the question "What tree is this leaf attached to?" :D :D :D :D
Juuuust funnin', folks!
thanks rube.. it does make an interesting game for us all. I know and am i am sure everybody it does take some fo your time.. again THANK YOU!!.
Great job, rube!
Excellent wrap up and great job with the game Rube.
great game
I use to think that I knew SDC pretty well I now know I will have to pay alot more attention next season
Dig the game rube, Thanks!
Thank you Mr. Dugans for your time and effort! A lot of fun and very competitive.
What a great year for Silver Dollar City, and the famous "Where in the City?" thread. Whew, now all we have to do is muscle through two months until March, when the fun begins again! :D
yes! 74 days1 to go
I'd start studying up on your old photos if I were you. It'll be here before you know it!
Rube, thanks again for taking over the game, this year. I enjoyed being able to guess for a change, though I'm horrible at my own game. I wonder how many others out there are taking similar pictures now. Some of them can get pretty artsy.
How 'bout a group of photos called SDC rooftops? or shadows? Employee service signs? Those could be challenging for next year. Does anyone else have ideas for WitC photo sets?
I took a bunch from various places last time I was there... ??? Problem is I can't remember what I was looking at when I took them ??? ??? ???
I can't tell you how many times I have done that. For the pretty obscure ones, I have been taking one close up shot, and one wide angle showing the general area.
Ditto.
WITC ideas: How about shots of different steps or floors or walkways?? I dont mean just a slab of cement, but pics of anything unique.
I have used roof joists, and decorative concrete work before. HB has even used shadows!
Shadows are great, but they have to be distinctive enough to be identified.
ok ok. sounds like this year may get a little more competitive, and maybe harder to answer.. we'll see.... :P :P
