Being a history scholar, I always research the history of places I am going/places I have been. After much research on a visit to L.A. I found web page(s) dedicated to Disney's "Club 33". For those of you that are unaware, Club 33 is a private club located in the heart of the New Orleans Square section of Disneyland at an unassuming location (somewhat hidden to the average person/ visitor). I think it would be amazing to offer a similar exclusive/elite group ("33" only has 437 members with a lengthy waiting list). The club offers a 5 star restaurant, and other ammenities, I don't think it would ever go over at SDC, BUT I would be first in line. It would be amazing! Who would join me, and where would you put it? In the cave? above the ice cream parlor?
You could put it in the upstairs of the mine.
OR I say build another building next to the Culinary Art School and have it there.
I love this idea! I'd want it to be someplace really historic in SDC. I love the idea of above the ice cream parlor, or Shad's old cabin.
This idea came into my head before, however I forgot about it until this evening when I sat down to work! I would like to think of the "club" as a tucked away place, not necessarily a new structure. Something unassuming that could be overlooked as an environment piece for the uninformed. The treehouse would have been great but it is out of the picture, Hannahs floor 2 is ideal! I would work the club...keep track of reservations, members waiting lists etc.
The upper part of the Lumbercamp Restaurant might be the ideal place for something like that. I don't really think it gathers that much attention from the general guest population...not used a whole lot now. It's mostly enclosed now (didn't used to be), a fairly large area, and it has food services right under it. Plus it has a nice view of the waterfall and surrounding areas.
Out of the way, food nearby-fried food at that so even better. Waterfall on one side, sheltered by trees on the other. I didn't see the same 5 star type environment as 33, nor would it serve alcohol, but a smaller "club" does bring up some thoughts. Would it be viewed as negative for the park to have an exclusive/ private club? Does placing certain guests above others in this case create an ethical issue, or a tarnished image of the wholesome family park? Or would this simply need to be a reservation only club open to all/ anyone who wants?
I think they could build on a second level to Mary's Spring House and connect that to the top floor of Hannah's and they could have a decent sized building with great views of the lower city - especially Midtown
If Grandfather's Mansion was really a two story structure Upstairs would work great, But being a Tilt House I don't know exactly what is there. I could see a door in the first room that worked into the paneling that led to a set of stairs....That'd be nice too.
It's funny, I was just thinking about what would happen if SDC offered a lifetime pass, instead of just a season pass. Something like this would go perfectly with such a plan!
How about in the basement of the old church
What would really be the perfect spot?
A solution to two problems. The place to have this would be the tree house. The back side could be updated to have a deck overlooking the city the front would be the perfect hidden within view.
The idea of a club is something I'd been thinking about for a few years now. I like the idea, a place in the old part of town, but mostly hidden from view from the average guest. I'd originally thought that a spot on the town square area would work...but after reading through this thread, I kind of like the lumbercamp and treehouse ideas, too. It's a fantasy, but we can dream, can't we?
How great could the treehouse be. Fix up the the inside to a relaxing club atmosphere and build a deck over looking the city in the shade of the trees so that even on those 100 degree days it would be a great place to be. The money that it takes to be part of the club could pay for the rebuilding of the treehouse. I would imagine that from the top you could see the train depot, FITH, and most of the city.
I originally thought this might have to be underground, and, thus, have a mining/cave theme. That would be cool! But after the talk about overlooking the city I thought, "Hey, the tower for the Waterboggen isn't being used for anything! Why not put in a secret elevator and put it up there!" I suppose you'd have to enclose it somehow and fix it so those looking out couldn't be seen by regular patrons, or there would be lots of questions the Citizens would have to answer! It could be disguised from the outside to look like one of those tall mine buildings like is on top of the FMS.
Another great idea! I'm partial to a Lake Silver view, having played Junior Dugan for 6 seasons!
I like all the ideas, keep em' coming! As self elected President/Founder of club 1880- I vote that we have a venue with a view. That settled, it crosses off the shoe room as our headquarters..... We could adorn the walls with drawing (even facsimiles of the plans for the park) and photos of past SDC founders/mainstays and surround ourselves with the furniture and goods from the park. I am picturing what was done for the culinary art location in regards to park items showcased. Local dignitaries and guests could be invited for the VIP treatment. and family and friends could be accommodated in the club...With reservations of course ;)
