Title: SDC citizens nametags
Post by: How-doFolks on July 01, 2010, 06:38:26 AM
If ya work for SDC, do they pick ya'r name? Or do you get to make up ya'r own?

If whatever, what would ya name ya'rself? I'll have to think about this'n.... ???

I wish I could intellegently reply here, but I cannot. We never had to wear a name tag in my era...as, officially, we were not employees, but "citizens." Citizens don't wear nametags...at least they didn't in my 1880's!

Some of them use their real names while others like T-Bone make one up.

Mine was all made up and waiting for me when I was hired.  But it was personalized based on the location where I was a craftsman.   The one I was given was made out of wood, while others are leather from what I recall.

Some of the "citizens" wear the 50th anniversary buttons that say "I'm a citizen."

I never have had a name tag, but I've had many different names depending on the character I played.

So now I am wondering if any of the name tags at SDC have their real names on them?....    Copper can you chime in?

Most citizens have their real names on their name tags.  I would say all, but I do know of one or two exceptions...for example, "Whoops E. Daisy" is not her real name.  Merchandise, Foods, and management personel will have their real names on them.

I don't have too much trouble with nametags for the folks working in shops or restaurants, but don't like the idea for the costumed entertainers who are supposed to be eccentric citizens of an Ozarks town. Nametags on all folks is another way of saying SDC is not an old time town, but a theme park...and that instead of wearing costumes...it's simply variations on uniforms. Just my perception of how the business has changed over the years, and how theme has been altered at the park. I guess the management believes the nametags are necessary. I refer back to my original posting on this thread.

I realize my mind is stuck 25 years in the past when it comes to SDC. I do remember working with a guy who was a long timer on the park. In 1980/81 they experimented with putting remote control boats that were coin operated in Lake Silver next to the diving bell. I did not think much of the boats, but could live with them. Not this guy. He was old school back then before we knew what old school was...He flipped out when those remote control boats were put in. He was so disappointed, he finished the season and never came back. He thought the park had changed too much from the original vision of Miss Mary. I guess with all the rollercoasters, the GE, and Wilson's Farm giant swing, he'd really flip out today.

Ouch.  Forgot about those boats.  Bad idea.  One of the first upcharges, I guess.

I agree about the costumed characters and name tags.  I imagine the tags are a part of quality control - so people can name names if a citizen is rude or if a citizen goes beyond the normal call of duty.  And to ensure guests that they work there and aren't pulling a fast one.

But if they are doing it for that reason then they need to have their real names....   If they are not going to use real names then why have them in the first place.....  Just saying....

You can't forget we are an 1880s theme park, but must operate in a 2010 world.  This sounds weird, but I have people who won't ask me questions if I don't have a name tag on even if I am in a costume.  It helps the guests.  It is also nice for recognition and yes, complaints.  If you want a name that isn't yours you are supposed to get approval.  Not all the roving entertainers have them.  I guess I don't notice them or they don't bother me.

Mine is not my first name, but my second middle name. Leviticus!

Gosh! I forgot about them remote control boats! OMG!! THATS been awhile....

I myself like a nametag on a citizen of SDC rather its fake or not. Makes me feel more personal towards them, it can be a conversation starter too. I like to mingle with them & make guests loosen up & giggle alil'.

If I had to pick a name other than my given name, I would choose something odd like "Chuck Wagon". So there...I have claimed that one.....No one else can have it. ;D

I'd probably have "Becky" Joy. Or if I play a character (and if they don't want a Becky Thatcher), it'd be Elizabeth or Lizzie, as I'd adapt the lead character of my Marmaros/SDC epic into a playable character.

A name I toyed with at The Wilds was Dak Ralston.  I have no idea where it came from.  I have been know to come to school in character for a day, depending on the lesson.  The kids love a guy named Eddie Gweedle who comes to "substitute" for me on Halloween.  He has even host a couple of schoolwide programs with parents.  If I worked at SDC, I'd like to develop a couple of personas.

I still say that there is no reason to have name tags if you don't have real names on them.  I would hate to be the complaint dept when someone complains about Jim Bob and not you have to figure out who the heck that is.

A simple spreadsheet would easily remedy that, though.  I wouldn't want street characters wearing nametags, but I understand shop clerks and guest crafters having them.

I thought about getting a nametag with OKIEBLUEGRASS on it just so if any of y'all saw me in the park you might recognize me.  ;D

I am not sure what Silver Dollar City's "official" policy on the subject is. However, I think most of us here have it pegged pretty well. Basically, all service employees have name tags, and most charector employees do not wear name tags. Could you imagine how many name tags Terry Sanders would have to go through if they made one for each one of his charectors?  :D

I got married at SDC. When they took me through to the church, the wedding planner said if it doesn't work out there's Justin. There was a guy there who introduced himself to me as Justin Case. Thats what his name tag said.
