With Junior's idea of wanting to see an SDC Monopoly game, this sounds like a great opening for ideas! And no, folks...I am not doing another "top" list ;) LOL! I thought an SDC Monopoly would spawn some great ideas by all of us if we could design it. So how do we do it?
What two properties are Boardwalk and Park Place?
What are the two cheap purple properties right after GO! that no one hardly buys?
What do you put in the CHANCE and COMMUNITY CHEST cards?
What are the Utilities?
Since SDC has one Railroad, what do you do with the other three railroad spaces?
Let's see if we can design this game! Ideas? Opinions?
A few of my ideas are...
FREE PARKING should be TRAM PARKING
Some of the fees of the CHANCE cards could have you being robbed by the Bolins, getting married in the Wilderness Church, renewing season passes, Flooded Mine repairs, cut in line at American Plunge (go back 3 spaces).
One of the pieces you move around the board could be an anvil.
For the record, I think it was tinaalsgirl who sparked the Monopoly idea in the other thread.
QuoteSince SDC has one Railroad, what do you do with the other three railroad spaces?
Parking Trams, Butterfield Stage, Electric Carts, and River Raft?
QuoteWhat are the Utilities?
Waterwheel, Steam, Mule - How many utilities are there?
QuoteWhat do you put in the CHANCE and COMMUNITY CHEST cards?
Stopped by a photographer - pay $20
Would you still build houses (cabins) and hotels, or would you build refreshment stands and ride attractions?
QuoteOne of the pieces you move around the board could be an anvil.
A log, an ax, a stroller, a slouch cap, a deputy badge
I just looked at a real Monopoly board. We have to figure out the following...
There are:
22 properties
4 Railroads
2 tax spaces
2 utilities
Do we make the properties all shops and shows? Are rides our Railroads? What are the tax spaces?
Good question by HB! Do you build hotels and houses? What are the buildings we build?
Props to tinaalsgirl and my apologies. I didnt see that thread. One point for tina and half a point for Junior. LOL!
QuoteWhat are the tax spaces?
Souvenir Stand
Preferred Parking
QuotePreferred Parking
How about
Haystack Dryer.....
First off, I agree with HB in the two tax spaces being Preferred Parking and Souvenier Stand
Here are my twenty two properties and four "railroads"
Marvel Cave, GF's Mansion, Hospitality House, Wilderness Church, McHaffie's, Oak Trail School, Echo Hollow, Culinary/Craft School, General Store, Post Office, Flooded Mine, Tom Sawyer's Landing, Frisco R.R., Carrie's Candles, Gun & Knife Shop, Hannah's, Sullivan's, Rube Dugan's Diving Bell, Jim Owen Float Trip, Giant Swing, American Plunge, Lost River (Yes, I brought back Rube and J. Owens and I am not sure what to make the Park Place and Boardwalk properties.)
The railroads are: WildFire, Thunderation, FITH and PowderKeg (I did this since they are technically "rail" rides)
I am at a loss for the two utilities.
And I am still trying to think up more CHANCE and COMMUNITY CHEST cards.
Remember folks, I have only been to SDC twice in almost thirty years so I am going by very little info and memory. I know you may not agree with some of these picks, but that's the fun of the whole thing!
Wow, you're not really going to charge people who land on the Wilderness Church and the Oak Trail School, are you?
I'd use the Frisco Railroad instead of Fire in the Hole for a railroad, since the rails on FitH are less seen.
I'd suggest you need to group properties:
Main Street/Square
Midtown
Grand Exposition
Riverfront
Perhaps the two best properties are Marmaros and Marvel Cave (Devils Den)
Cards:
Help row oar cart - lose a turn
Caught line jumping - go to jail
You have been deputized - receive $30 from each player
Recruited to fight fires - lose $10
Timothy Turnbuckle transports you forward in time - advance to Go.
I might be partial here though but I'd love to see Brown's Candy Factory. In fact, I would love a focus on all the Master Craftsmen in some way.
I like the idea of sections of the City that History Buff suggested and the pieces that Andy suggested were right on for me.
Somehow it would be great if we could add in some of the old billboards and sign postings as the cards you pull out of the pile. (Dentist, rain maker, "you looked in the peep hole", etc)
for the cheap properties you could go with Alfie and Ralphie Bolan's shack and the the mayors shack of pottersville.
one utilitie could be the water wheel
better yet one of the cheap properties might be the hobo caboose
or foot power (how most people in the hills get around)
OK! OK! Get it produced so we can buy a copy already! ;)
Chance cards- Blasted by Tom and Huck pay 10$, Wildfire derailed pay 150$ in repair fees. One of the properties u could build could be ralphie bolans cabin then gyser gulch. Somethin should be done with the tree house. I dont know what........
I may be wrong, but there aren't Monopoly "properties," rather they are all "streets" or "avenues." So wouldn't you want to find out all the street names in SDC? Like Hill street, Main street, etc. Or...there are 8 color groups, and looking at the SDC map you could name them Main Street, Homestead Ridge, Midtown Avenue, Valley Road, Exposition Avenue, Riverfront Lane, Wilson's Farm Road, Hill Street. To get the 2 or 3 sections of each color group, you could designate them East, West, Central, North, South, Central. Then instead of houses, you have concession stands and smaller shops. Instead of hotels, you have a major ride, show, or shop from the appropriate area, i.e., Homestead Ridge would have McHaffie's Homestead, the Wilderness Church, and the Apple Butter Shop; Hill Street might have the Opera House, the Saloon, and Heartland Furniture. I like the idea of major "rail" rides becoming the RR's. A Water Works would be appropriate as well as a Gas Company. Income Tax could stay the same, Luxury Tax could become Show Lover's Pass. I don't see why the corners of the board would have to change at all, but that's just me.
Look what Santa and his elves made us.

Looks like a marketing idea to me! Make sure you get your proceeds parson. Have a great day! Merry Christmas... we are headed down there for one more trip tomorrow!
I like the take a chance with Ada Mae! That's pretty good :).
Enjoyed this! :D
I redid my monopoly board now with pictures and slightly better formatting. Unfortunately I can't find my camera, so no new pictures. I will post some when I get them. I used a simple MS Word document to create my new monopoly play place. I would be glad to e-mail copies of said document (at no cost) to any interested parties. Feel free to PM me with your e-mail. Just cut-em out and tape them to your own monopoly board. Make a few notations on the cards and you are good to go. It is a lot more fun to play monopoly when you are dealing with places you really care about. Our family has played it twice so far, and my kids keep asking when we will play again. Probably tomorrow night.
parson, that really is a neat idea... good way to pass the next 90 days while we WAIT!!! :o :o
Okay here are the pictures of my new board with pictures.

Again if anyone wants a copy feel free to pm me.
Have enjoyed seeing these photos, and it appears you put a lot of work into creating this gaming board. Hats off to you! ;)
That's unbelieveable! :o I bet that's pretty fun to play around the ol' family table! Get the feelin' that maybe somewhere in the SDC offices, someone is rubbing their chin right now and saying "Hmmmm."
Thanks a lot for your encouragement guys! It was fun putting it together. We put it together as a family and we play it together, three times so far, probably do it again tomorrow!
Hey Parson, you dont have to list every single one, but can you list some of your Chance and Community Chest cards?? Surely you changed those a little too?!

That's next. We were just talking about that last night. We said we ought to change some of the cards to better reflect SDC. I will post some when we get it done. I'm also willing to take suggestions. Feel free to post away and help me create my ultimate unofficial SDC monopoly game!
Ate too many funnle cakes and had to use the facilites-lose a turn
Got into trouble popping some kids basketball-loose a turn/go to jail
Won first prize in the pie eating contest-collect 5$
Helped put out a baldknobber fire-collect 10$
Helped hogtie those darn Bowlin brothers-Take a free ride on the train
Won a taffy eating contest-collect 5$
Broke a peice of pottery and the pottery barn-pay 15$
those are ALL great ideas missing,, but try not to use the "b-word". It causes some of us to breathe deep, and have bad thoughts!!.. LOL
Smacked a kid you didn't know in the mouth for using foul language at the park. fine $100 ( or awarded $200) Not sure which.
I have obviously missed something bad here at my time on SDCFans. May I ask what is the vengeance against basketballs??? Sorry...I had to say the word to ask what this is about! ;)
It is not the balls themselves.... It is the kids walking around with them bouncing them constantly.
You can make the board here https://www.mymonopoly.com/ (https://www.mymonopoly.com/) and then you will actually have a real board.
Or Here..... http://www.tdcgames.com/MYO.htm (http://www.tdcgames.com/MYO.htm)

Down with b-balls at SDC!!! Nip it! In the bud!
Of course, popping them would be sweet catharsis!
I tried!!, But people just keep using the "BAD" language!! LOL
I was lying in bed last night thinking of making my own copy of this game and trying to get my husband to par-tiss-a-pate to no avail when I wonderd what were the peices used? did you use the regular ones that came with the game or do you use the soo-ven-ear pins????
Did u have to explain the monopoly game concept to him.?
Been really thinkin about this board game deal and have decided to repaint the houses and hotels. the houses would be painted a dirty grey and turned into shacks and the hotels painted brown and turned into cabins. I then came up with 50 community chest/Chance cards. Now to find me a board. City Wide yard sell is comin up......
great idea about the houses and cabin!...
Yah it'd be odd to have 30 Hannah's ice cream shops around the board. It would be funny to have cabins, and (Grandfather's) Mansions
My class today is working on their recreation of "LIFE" from the Revolutionary War era. They are making thier houses our of a few different materials. I might make a quick SDC monopoly cabin and mansion today if I have time-or at least start them, and work on mine as they work on theirs!
uh.? rube? Is that what they call Multi-tasking?? LOL
nah. I will make a "sample" building for demonstration purposes, and show them how to work on the buildings using mine.
How 'bout outhouses and shacks instead of shacks and mansions?
From our monopoly game recreation...
Because the houses had already been made (very simply I might say-hey it is middle school!) I adapted one to be an easy SDC "tilt" house (mansion) and a cabin..
And because I was proud of their attempt to recreate money using founding fathers faces...using a copy machine and no computer!
Overall their game cost them about $4.00 worth of colored papers (variety pack) along with scrap wood from our shop class.Game pieces were made out of sculptey oven fired clay that was donated...
Thinking about this:My thoughts on SDC Monopoly Currency
(Yes some fictitious characters)
$1 Alf & Ralph Bolin
$5 Rube Dugans (I know we never saw him!)
$10 Aunt June
$20 Terry Sanders
$50 The Rainmaker
$100 Uncle Gene
$500 Shad Heller
What do you think?
spectacular! pure creativity!! I love the mansion tilting! I have been pondering the money issue myself and you have came up with that soulution, so snaps to you! Also the game peicies which I have been thinkin of, if you didnt want to use soo-ven-ear pins, you could use stuff from around the park such as a small cube of lye soap, a rock from the "mining" area thing, a peaice of wax from the hokey wax hand makin place. The list can go on and on!!! Anyway......
Just don't use taffy!!! That would start a fight at my house trying to see who would get the neoplolitan piece!
Here are our sculptey pieces-
Ship (with cloth sail)
Declaration of Independance
Tri cornered hat
Tea Chest
Cannon
Liberty Bell
North Church
You could use the following:
Silver Dollar coin
Horseshoe
Carriage/ Stage coach
Boot
Anvil
An axe possibly in wood)
Cowboy Hat
Steam Engine/ Train
You may have the money backwards. You put the "father of the country" on the most-distributed bill (or should we use only silver dollars?).
I would be a proponent of placing Hugo and Mary on the $1.
How about William Lynch and Henry T. Blow? I like the idea of sticking the iconic Shad in there, too, but I can't imagine putting outlaws like Ralph and Alf on the money. How about a Hatfield or McCoy?
As for the tokens: an ore car, a Bald Knobber mask. You have to have an anvil and a locomotive. The cowboy replaces the top hat. How about a funnel cake?
Some transferred well from the original, tophat---> cowboy hat, others I was just brainstorming. I also thought Green trams, but they would be silver...but it would still be recognizable.
I was not much of a fan of the Bolin Boys, but I was sticking to SDC park characters/ workers. I thought of The Lynch's, The Herschends, and others, but stuck on the theme...and was hard pressed on who to include only thinking about individuals, others were Ray Johnson, Horsecreek band, Homestead Pickers, Aunt Judy, Bonnie Jean, the Sheriff, the pastor...so many that I could have included-I though it was funny putting the Bolin's on the lowest bills.
It seems to me you should throw in the Beverly Hillbillies somewhere! I dont know where, but I am just sayin'.......
so I am finished with the prototype board at my home. Thought about using a pathfinder map as the background and putting the chance/communith chest cards ontop but the map is the wrong size. Anywho, I am the monopoly champ in my house! (due to some shady bowlin brothers cheating on my end.)
