I wondered the same thing about a few of the songs... most of them I knew, but a few were new tunes to me. If I remember right though, the song opening the mine scene is "Mine, Mine, Mine" from Disney's Pocahontas... with slight word changes to fit the story of course (like most of the songs).

Yeah I'm not sure how they could do wait times accurately, since it doesn't seem they track that information and it doesn't seem to be user input.
I would say though, I'm fairly certain this is an official app - The way I found it was an advertisement in the paper pathfinder. So unless they are selling an ad to a third party company, it seemed pretty official. Maybe they are just trying out the concept in the park before widespread advertising of it?

Yes, the iPhone app doesn't fit the SDC theme as well as one might hope... :-) I honestly still got a paper Pathfinder just because I like reading up on what is written there. I don't think it really causes more of a break in theme than people with cell phones already cause. I'm all for keeping within theme, but as a theme park SDC has to do some things to keep up with modern technological advances or there won't be a park left for folks to enjoy. This is why I love how they've worked in their theme to very modern rides like PowerKeg and Wildfire... staying within theme, but still staying relevant to the modern family (and kids).

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: 2011 Trip Reviews

My wife and I went over to Branson this last weekend and definitely enjoyed ourselves. We took a very relaxed pace to everything to just try and have a refreshing weekend. We stayed at HomeStay and enjoyed ourselves there (already posted a review). We woke up late and got a late start heading to SDC Saturday, at which point we hit crazy traffic about the time we hit the Inspiration Tower entrance. I've hadn't seen it backed up like that before, but then again we always get there at park opening (and this is the first holiday weekend we visited). It was odd because it was backed up until we got to SDC entrance, and then no lines driving into parking. Weird. Still, we enjoyed our time then went back to HomeStay to watch the OU vs. Tulsa game open up the college football season, with an Andy's Custard break at half time. We tried Molly Mill's breakfast for the first time Sunday morning, definitely enjoyed that (hot SDC apple butter and biscuits - amazing). I was disappointed in the Southern Gospel fest talent, never really saw anyone we liked, so we mostly just rode rides and enjoyed the atmosphere. We did Showboat Branson Belle Sunday night which was awesome. Dinner was great, and the performers were very good. We even got to watch a fireworks show over the lake during "intermission". Overall, fun and relaxing stay in Branson. Went by too quickly.

I discovered that this last weekend while we were at the park! Definitely useful for show schedules and the like. Lots of great info. It also has the feature to try and show you things that you are near based on your GPS location in the park. Cool idea, but I never got a good enough GPS signal out there for it to be accurate. It thought everything was more than 500 feet away even when I was right next to it. Now what I wish it had was ride wait times. I've used apps that reported that at Disney parks and it was great to know whether to walk across the park or if the lines were too long (or if PowderKeg is down again). Not sure the SDC audience is big enough to support that or not though. We don't even really have wait times when you are at the ride.

Welcome busymom and thanks for the comment! Hope you have a great trip. I'm hoping the rain holds off for us, but the cooler temps that are forecast should be nice. Still, if it rains we'll just relax and enjoy the time away :-). Have fun!

Well, Duelist said it... a day at SDC is better than a day at work anytime. :-) My wife and I decided to give it a go and see how things are that weekend. Probably going to mix things up a little and see some shows we haven't seen before rather than focusing solely on SDC. I just called Paige at HomeStay and made a reservation there... first time for us to stay there. Looking forward to it after all the good reviews. And of course, looking forward to relaxing time in SDC and Branson. Nice to get away once in a while, even just for a long weekend.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Labor day at SDC
August 13, 2011, 10:06:10 PM
Anyone planning on going or have experience at SDC on Labor Day weekend? My wife and I are considering a trip over that weekend, but wasn't sure what to expect crowd wise. I figure summer is over, but it is still a long weekend so the crowds could be fairly significant. We also considered the weekend before, but I figure regardless of crowds the extra day we get on the long weekend makes it worth it. Any thoughts?
Along those lines... Anyone have any favorite groups that come to the Southern gospel picnic? Sounds like some good performers visiting.

Branson Talk / Re: Best places to eat in Branson

I'm a little late to the party here, but I definitely agree with those who have already mentioned Famous Dave's, it is one of my favorites. Also, Mel's Hard Luck diner is great. They have very good food, and then all the waiters/waitresses are singers from shows around Branson, working part time in the diner. Every so often one will walk over to their karaoke type machine and start up a song to perform. Sometimes the other servers will join in and sing harmony. And while they do this, they don't stop waiting on you/interacting with you. It's just a purely fun environment to enjoy dinner in. Definitely recommend!

Glad you had a great time Coaster! Enjoyed reading your review.
Also, I totally agree about the Forbidden Journey ride... that ride technology is incredible. The ride was a bit dark for my tastes (not too many happy moments), but the technology impressed me greatly. Being the theme park geek I am, I found myself trying to not watch the stuff they wanted me to watch so I could look back at the "cars" behind us and figure out how the thing worked. Pretty cool stuff.
How were the crowds at the Wizarding World?

I too was impressed by the coupons... would definitely use them if we could make it to the park. With an August 31st expiration date though, not sure it will happen. We didn't plan to go back till Fall. Of course the call of the city is always there in my ear, so we might make it out earlier anyway...

I'm with whoever it was earlier that said cargo shorts. I keep my wallet in there and zip the pocket up when I ride. Of course not everybody likes to wear shorts like that. Jackets with zipper pockets also work the same way during the cooler times of year, but obviously not during the summer.

checked the website found this for the Times. BUT no coupons

Haven't gotten mine yet. Anyone who got it want to share what kind of coupons are in there?
