Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2013 Project

Incidentally, rumors are circling that the redo of the Rattler (Iron Rattler) down at Six Flags Fiesta Texas will also feature a barrel roll. It's a race to be first, now, I guess.

I just got home from a two day visit to the park. Sorry...I am not sure how to post photos of "The Outlaw" here, but you can check out a few pictures on my Twitpic account: http://twitpic.com/photos/Majrhavoc

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Moonlight Madness!! What are your favorite rides to ride in the dark??
August 02, 2012, 12:01:43 PM
Just got back from a Moonlight Madness visit on 7/31. Crowds were large but manageable. Powder Keg was about a 20 - 25 minute wait (non-front seat) with two trains running, and Wildfire was about a 10 minutes wait (also two trains). Thunderation was only running one train (does it ever run more than one?) and was a three train wait. Ride ops at the coasters were really on the ball, and the crowds were in pretty good spirits.
Longest non-coaster lines were American Plunge (no idea on the time as I didn't wait, but the line was almost out to the Wildfire/American Plunge split) and Giant Swing (only one swing in operation, about a 30 minute wait).
We had a fun visit, and I did not think the overall crowd level was anything compared to the crowds at Christmas time, which seems to me to be the most crowded time of the year, by far.
On a side note, I did snag a couple photos of "The Outlaw" on 8/1, which I will post in an alternate thread.

Just an FYI based on feedback I received directly from the SDC folks:
During Moonlight Madness the buffets will close at 7 p.m.
Restaurants that are open until 9 p.m. are Aunt Polly's, Buckshot Annie's, Hatfield's Tater Patch, Wagon Works Grill, Dockside Grill, Lady Liberty Dining Pavilion, and Hannah's Ice Cream Factory.
Concessions on the Square remain open until 10 p.m.

We rode Wildfire in the dark during a warm December evening in 2009.... it was amazing in the dark. As another poster commented, you can't see anything but "blackness" when you crest the lift hill.
We have never been to Moonlight Madness but are planning on going this year. For this event, is the park pretty packed during the weekdays (Monday - Thursday)? Also, do all the rides stay open during the extra hours? What about restaurants? Thanks for the help in advance!

Very exciting news! I took a three-day "man-cation" (me and two buds from work) down to Six Flags Over Texas last year just to ride the NEW Texas Giant. It was an amazing ride, smooth as a steel coaster, but with the fierce intensity of wood. The three tunnels added to the course (along with their cool lighting and fog effects) were pretty spectacular as well.
On a side note, I was fairly impressed with SFoT as a whole, but maybe that is mostly because I was comparing it to an exceedingly underwhelming Six Flags St Louis park...?
Anyway, back to the topic, if the Rocky Mt. folks can work similar "Texas Giant" magic from the start of a project to its amazing finish, you have to believe that SDC is in for a real treat, well worth the wait.

Random Talk / Re: St. Louis Mo. Zoo & Six Flags
November 09, 2011, 07:50:25 PM
While I am not a big fan of Six Flags Saint Louis (contrary to another poster, I think it is the WORST SF park I have visited - I am kinda partial to Six Flags Over Texas, it has a bit of an SDC feel, imho), but the St Louis Zoo is amazing. It is second only to the Omaha Zoo, and a close second at that.
Keep in mind that while admission to the zoo is free, pretty much everything else costs money. Parking is $11 or $12 bucks, the kid's section of the zoo (after the first hour that the park is open) and the rides cost, and both the Sea Lion show (which is top notch) and the 3D movie are up-charge attractions as well. Don't get me wrong, the STL Zoo is reasonably priced, but be ready for at least some costs! (FYI - the Safari Pass is a really good deal, especially if your local zoo participates in a reciprocal program and you are a season pass holder).
Back to Six Flags StL, you should check out these links at ThemeParkInsider.com for more info (I hope it is okay to post links to other theme park sites here - my apologies if it is not):

And, FWIW, when I go to SFStL I generally stay at a Comfort Inn & Suites in Chesterfield. It is a nice place with good restaurants (not just fast food) nearby. One more thing, you should definitely plan to eat your meals outside of the park - the food at SFStL is inedible.
Good luck!

Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC Survey May 2011

I agree with Polley, the Moon Shot has the best concept presentation, but unless SDC is adding something akin to Disney's Tower of Terror (the Orlando version) I have zero interest in this attraction.
The Stagecoaster would be unique to the area, but Zamperla coasters are underwhelming and too short.
That leaves The Bull. Clearly the best option for thrill fans, but unless some additional narrative elements are added, the end result will be less SDC and more Six Flags/Cedar Fair. Still, if GCI or the Gravity Group is involved, the layout will be unique and terrain hugging, and the ride will be fast, thrilling, and smooth.
Of the three options listed, The Bull would get my vote.
(M. Havoc - recent SDC convert [2009], and long time lurker, but first time poster - be gentle!).
