We normally stay at Whispering Hills. I didn't go this summer since CC, my favorite, was gone. WH has great service and great people...after a somewhat late night at CC, we missed the cobbler/ice cream/cookies/etc. window by around 15 min, but they let us have at it anyway. The rooms might not be the best decorated, but it is just a great place to stay. And if you take a Branson vacation correctly, you're not gonna stare at the hotel decorations that much anyway. ;) I'm just not a coaster fan, so I don't appreciate SDC much...it just ends up hurting my ankles in the end.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: 50th Logo
February 23, 2010, 10:05:41 PM
Hey all! I don't mean to bump, but as a designer with opinions different than the end users, I want to give my 3-point review on the logo:

1. Typography
I did notice that the typography in the logo has changed ever so slightly; from one serif to another serif. The new typeface's weight is slightly lowered, which is good; the original typography was a bit too bold in the first place. The new typeface is more Times-esque, which is much better than Cooper. The "50" typeface looks great to me as a designer and an end-user. Typography rating: 4/5

2. General design
The overall design seems fine. I do see that the axe appears slightly different. The only bone I have to pick with this is that the logo has an almost Web 2.0-like shine, which is dated and overused. That can take away major points for a brand. I think the pixie dust is okay; I believe the application will make up for it. General design rating: 3/5

3. Overview
As I said earlier, the general design is okay to me. I don't mind the pixie dust or the "50" typeface. The only thing I don't like is the Web 2.0 shine. Overall rating: 3.5/5

Wonder how the City looks right now.

Here in West Plains, we have trees falling somewhere every 20-30 seconds. Branches are also crashing on the roof. A relative in Branson (actually, Hollister) said they have an inch of freezing rain, with more sleet and snow.

It can't look good right now in the City. One half of my yard looks as if a hurricane came through.  :o

General Silver Dollar City Talk / über-odd question...
January 17, 2009, 10:38:07 PM
Has anyone ever died at SDC or any other Herschend park? I just wanted to know if anyone lost something on a coaster.

I haven't heard of any deaths. So, anyone know anything?

I notice it's getting dark towards the lake. I tell my mom. She asks an employee, and he says, "It's probably just the lake." About 15 minutes later, we were under a pretty strong storm. We took cover in the barbecue place, only to find the only part we could stand in was under a net. We decided to eat, and our food was soaked. We didn't have to leave, but many of the rides were shut down long after the storm.

Lo and behold, we only packed some t-shirts and shorts, and this storm came with a cold front. On the way to the car, we were freezing our butts off, and the car was always just too cold. Meh.

We didn't buy season passes this year, after CC closed down, we decided it was useless. It was our favorite park...

What did y'all get for your winter celebration (Christmas, Hanukkah, etc.)?

EDIT: I forgot to mention... I got an iPod nano 4G. I'm addicted to it. :-)
