Just out of curiosity, why is the speed limit on Indian Point Road 16 MPH? Is there some significance for the number 16 and SDC?

We went to the city on Friday evening and stayed until closing. The weather was incredible, especially considering the cold front that came through Saturday afternoon. We stopped at Eva & Delilah's for some bread pudding and a cinnamon roll and walked onto the square just in time for the tree lighting. From there, we went down to Powderkeg...my sister and I rode once in car three and then hurried back around to car one for another trip...PK in winter in the dark is the most awesome coaster experience I've ever had! Reaching the top of the second drop and seeing the City awash in light made it even better. Then we rode FITH and walked out just in time to catch the parade. After that we walked over to the candle shop so my daughter could make some Christmas presents and then we picked up our season pass ornaments. Then we headed back down to the Saloon for the Christmas show...best one I've ever seen! The girl who played Sally was hilarious, and I always enjoy watching Choctaw Charlie. By the time the show was over we had just enough time to walk over to the Flooded Mine and ride through before heading back up to the front for a stop at the Apple Butter shop before heading back to the hotel. The best part was taking my mom and sister to see the SDC lights for the first time...they were definitely not disappointed!
Oh, and I got my 2011 season pass...see you next March!

We're headed up this afternoon...can anyone tell me what the crowds are usually like on a Friday evening? We've been after Christmas, but not before...very excited to see all the lights and have bread pudding from Eva & Delilah's!

This won't be seen as an excuse/opportunity to mothball the ride, will it?

I just remember my brother and I going into the Tree Fort together in 1989 and being amazed by all there was to do up there...we didn't go back as a family until 2001 and by then we were both way too old to climb up the trunk!

I went for the first time in 1984 and I remember Injun Joe's Cave...then when our family went back in 1989 I remember the Infinity Room...does that help anyone's timeline?

All the news websites say that it was an observation tower and not a structure connected to the ride and that AP will not be affected...also no injuries, which is the best thing.

199 miles...4 hours with a stop in Fayetteville to grab some Chick-Fil-A!

Great pics!!! Every time we walk by the tree I make sure to remind my daughter how much it was to play in that thing...and then get her pumped up to create memories of her own in the treehouses in Half Dollar Holler!

Branson Talk / Re: Branson Food

Speaking of food on the Landing...
I know pizza isn't the first thing you think of when you come to Branson, but Old Chicago down on the Landing is great. We went there last week and loved it...sat outside with the kids...great experience and great pizza.

Mid-October is now my favorite time to go to SDC...the weather was incredible, the people (citizens and crowds) were uber-friendly, and the craft demonstrations were incredible. Plus, we rode everything with less than a five minute wait. Had a BBQ sandwich at Riverside Ribhouse with a sweet tea while we sat overlooking Lost River.
Aside from SDC, we saw "Noah" at Sight & Sound (excellent); took the kids on the Ducks (also great); and stayed at All-American Inn (very clean, quiet, and also super friendly people).
I noticed that Branson was full of tour buses of retired folks...is this the norm? I'm asking because we intend to go back at this time next year, and I hope those retired folks are there too...every person we came across was not only nice, but treated my kids like gold.

Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2011 Project

Maybe I'm just naive, but when it comes to competition I don't see SDC as having that much. They're in a class by themselves because of their history, reputation, and management. They have built more than a park; it's an experience. For my family, half of that experience is the drive to Branson...the entire 3 1/2 hours is spent talking about our favorite places in SDC, our favorite rides, our favorite foods, our favorite crafts, our favorite Citizens. I'm sure from a business standpoint that SDC needs to be concerned with "keeping up," but even if they decided that they were never going to add anything new ever again, I'd still be going there three or four times a year...and I bet many others would too. SDC isn't a cookie-cutter theme park...it's like stepping back in time. That, I think, is the one thing that other parks can't replicate or compete with.
