There is a MARKED difference now in the cinnamon bread at the new location and what we got at Sullivan's Mill.  I got it one time, and never again.  I also agree about the cinnamon rolls at Eva and Delilah's.  They taste to me like they were bought at Wal-Mart or something and put out to sell.  Even microwaving them doesn't help much.  (I wonder how many microwaves were around in 1885?)  ::)

I keep getting error messages when putting in my season pass number.  Neither one works. First,  this ticket has already been scheduled,  then, ticket not validated.  Just tried to call the city, but they closed now at 4pm. Guess I'm out of luck.   >:(

Jim Owen's Float Trip.

As for book stores, we always visited the one on the (old) 76, between SOTH and SDC.

I concur on the Float Trip.  It was a fun ride and funny to see the different things as you floated along.  From the whirlpool, to the outhouse above you tipping over, it was a neat experience!

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Fire In The Hole Bump
October 06, 2019, 07:32:19 AM
I love the Fire In The Hole!  I always have.  The "Thunderation Bump" thread reminded me that there is also a hard jolt in Fire In The Hole.  It is especially evident if one is riding in the last seat of the back car.  As you are going over the first hill at the burning bridge, there are two or three very violent hits to your whole body.  It has gotten worse over the past few years.

From now on, I will ask that they not put me in the last car.  Has anyone else noticed the roughness of which I speak?

Today was our first visit to the park this season!  I knew it was going to be a packed house as soon as we pulled onto Indian Pointe Rd off 76 (we always go through Lakeview (Branson West).  I had been looking forward to going ever since we got our season passes in December!

Once parked, we were going to ride the tram from stop 2, but there were two busses at that stop (one loading, one waiting to load), and I didn't want to ride a bus, so we walked up to the entrance.  I have two strong arms, and two strong legs, so I can walk.

We made it into the park before the chain drop, so we went into the candy shop to wait for everything to open.

I rode the FiTH first because I saw a report on here from someone who said none of the sound effects were working in the ride.  I can confirm that they still are not.  No gun firing, no ricochet, no Red Flanders, no train whistle, no "Fiiiiire In The Hooooooole!" before the last drop.  I was really disappointed that they have made no attempt to fix that classic SDC ride.

We rode through the Flooded Mine and I didn't even touch my gun because I just wanted to look at everything and see all they work they DID do inside THAT ride!  Everything looked good, but some things were not working properly.  The saw blade did move back and forth, but it was not spinning.  The guy with the jackhammer was not shaking like usual, the guy who was supposed to be turning the pump crank didn't even have his hand attached to the crank, and in fact, the crank handle was in his hand hanging down towards the water.

The huge marble ball that floats on the water as you enter The Grand Exposition (in front of Red Gold) was not working.

But, despite those things, we had a great time!  The smells of SDC were all there, I got some great photos of #14, and the food was all excellent!  We had luncheon in Crossroads Pizza, and the large pepperoni was tasty, though piping hot!

I walked through the park with a smile the whole time!  Can't wait to go back!

I have made 4 different versions of the train whistle tones.  3 Chime, 4 chime, and 6 chime from the newest engine!  I'd share them with you all, but I'm not sure where to put them so you can download them!  Any suggestions?  ;D

We went into the park on Saturday, the 15th.  Enjoyed a big breakfast at Molly's Mill (which had no line and we got right up to the food!).  All of the elements I love at the park were working properly (mine car above the entrance to the Mine restaurant, the talking face at the entrance of the Flooded Mine, the horse sounds as you are walking across the bridge towards Brown's Candy Factory, etc.).  All of the rides had short lines (especially in the morning), and because I was riding alone, got to bypass the entire line at Fire In The Hole, since they were looking for a single rider to pair with another!

I rode with a girl who had never ridden Fire In The Hole and it was great to watch her reactions to everything.  I have a habit of putting my hand up on the back of the seat in front of me when going down one of the hills.  She noticed that and so knew that something was about to happen!   ;D

One thing I didn't like was that the swinging bridge was closed off for some reason.  I don't know if it just hadn't been opened for the day or what.  But we didn't get to go across it.  Does anybody know if there's a problem with it or something?

We stopped at Crossroads Pizza for lunch, but there was absolutely no seats available.  We had to stand next to one of the trash cans inside to eat.  I didn't like that, and so probably won't eat there again.  That happens to us all the time there.

It seemed like there were 10,000 screaming kids in Grandfather's Mansion tilted room.  We just escaped it quickly.  Something I've noticed this season in there is that the music box music is not playing just inside the entrance any longer.

They had #43 up and running that day, and they had the lady playing the part of Ralphie.  Sorry...I don't know her name.  She was hilarious though!

As always, I had a great time, and really enjoyed the day!

Next Saturday is Mercy Day, so we'll avoid the City next week.  Have a great week, everybody!   :D

you mean "No Mercy" day, dont you? ;D

I hope not- we'll be there Saturday and Sunday. :-\

I just double checked, Duelist.  Confirmed.  Saturday the 13th is Mercy Day.  The lady at Carrie's Candles told me yesterday that last year they had 23,000 people in the park that day!

We made it into the park on Saturday morning (5/6/17) right after they started serving breakfast in Molly's Mill.

The weather was gorgeous and I knew the park was going to be jam packed.  It was.  We ate breakfast, and then began our visual tour.  We heard the first train coming into the station (#76), so I went to check it out.  I love those old steam engines and their whistles!  The engineer saw me standing by the sign that describes each of the engines and came over.  We got to talking about the two new engines that were recently purchased.  He told me they had just gotten the new boiler for the one they've received inpark, that day!  He said they hope to have the new engine in service by fall this year!  The other is in Pennsylvania at this time undergoing some work there.

It was standing room only at Red Gold Hall for the barbecue!  In fact, we had to use one of the tall tables in the back by the soda machines to eat.  There was no place we could see to sit.  The brisket was underwhelming to both of us.  It was like they forgot to add something while they were smoking it.  Neither of us could put our finger on it.  Getting through the crowd and out again was an adventure in itself!

In Carrie's Candles we went looking for the Leather scent.  It's our favorite of all of the scents they make.  There was none to be had.  They told us they had had many people asking for it, but they were out, and he was "just going to HAVE to order some more, and soon!"

Of course when you get near the candle shop, you start to smell the cinnamon bread at Sullivan's Mill, and you just HAVE to go in there!  It's a standard stop for us anyway.

By one o'clock, it was jammed all over the park.  I didn't make it into the Fire In The Hole to check to see if they had the light fixed in the train crossing drop, so I can't report findings on that issue.  Were any of you through Fire In The Hole yesterday who knows?

We enjoyed the trip as we always do.  Next Saturday is Mercy Day, so we'll avoid the City next week.  Have a great week, everybody!   :D

We had a VERY enjoyable day in the City today!  The Flooded Mine looks fantastic all fixed like it is!  I made a point of complimenting it to the ride controller as we were leaving.  I didn't even use my gun.  I just looked at how good everything was!

We made the first Earth Harp show.  I've seen the YouTube videos of it, but they really don't do it justice.  Seeing it live and in person was amazing!  Just watching her play the thing was a lot of fun.  It was a packed house too.  I don't think there was but one empty seat.  I loved the show!

We had breakfast at Molly's Mill before the park opened, and everything was really really good.  I was stuffed when we left.

On the Fire In The Hole, I was surprised that on the hill with the train whistle and light, that the light did not come on.  The train whistle sounded, no light, and down we go!  I don't know if that was on purpose, or the light is just not working.

On the way out, I picked up a new SDC ball cap and tried to find my 2017 Season Pass Holder trading pin, but was informed that they aren't going to do those any longer.  I'm sad about that.  Those were always my favorite pins.  I did pick up the new "Festival Of Wonder" pin though.  The rest, I already have.  When I asked the cashier about them, she said they aren't going to trade anymore either.   :(

The weather was beautiful, and the park was pretty crowded.  Still, we had a really good time!  We'll be there again on Friday and I can't wait to do it all again!

Howdy, SirWillow!  Spectacular photos you took in the park!  Thank you for sharing them with us!  Is it okay if I share the link to them on my Facebook?  I have several friends I think would love to see them.

So, I have to ask...Is the Hospitality House entrance still the same?  There was talk that the entrance was going to change to help with the bottleneck of people going in and exiting at the same time.

Yes it is still the same.  Other projects took precedence over the front being changed.

Thank you, Swoosh!  I'm glad to hear that!

I got the Preferred Parking pass with my Season Pass again this year also.  I get parked and into the City much faster that way.  I was bummed when they took out the tram stop at the bottom of the hill for the preferred lot.  Before, I would park right next to that stop, even when I got there so early there were no other cars around.  That way, when we left, our car would be right there next to the stop, and no walking to it!  Now, we just park at the north end of the lot and walk up to the turnstiles.  We've got two strong arms, and two strong legs.  We can walk.

I will say...I used to pay the $6 each time anyway.  Then they started with adding it to your season pass, and I am all in!  Once we get going, we go about every other weekend, so it's a bargain for us!  ;D
