lol Miss about my novels.

I like the tease of white lightening/moon shine just not the real thing. I mean that was always some of the funniest bits on Beverly Hill Billies, and of course on the Train ride with Icabod and the train whistle too. lol

That's how we used to use our baf passes. Bringing people that usually wouldn't be able to afford it. Pack lunches, etc.

However, it is getting harder and harder to make it there, that's why we personally haven't been in two years, finances. The prices of the passes are getting more and more expensive every year. When I first started getting a season pass, they were less then 20 dollars........

Yes Exactly Stacy!

That's why we went to CC for the mini golf, we figured we already had the pass might as well use it. And so it wasn't like we were paying just to play the mini golf. Just seemed like a "bonus". Personally we kind of looked forward to that being part of our routine when going there, having a evening that just he and I could hang out for free! lol

I've went to most the shows I think I have any interest in in Branson (I've been going there since I was a baby, I was going there before it was that popular, so I've seen almost all the shows) and I don't know, none have really grabbed me that much, I'd just assume go to the Echo Hollar show and save the money! lol haha The Echo hollar show also seems to be never ending fun to my husband, he never tires of it! lol haha No matter how many times a season we see the same one! lol Not to mention we get to eat good food during it, and be outside. I am not much of a "indoor" person. I would rather be outside, I just really don't go on vacation to be cooped up inside. We also rarely go to indoor movies, or anything like that either. We also lived for 10 years in NYC (actually my husband lived in NYC for 32 years, I lived there 10) and we rarely even went to the broadway shows, had to be something really really special to attract us to one. We usually only went cause we were dragged along with family. lol Sad thing is those shows costs so much money and for him and I the "free" shows at SDC were just as entertaining if not more so! lol

I would probably be just as happy if SDC put in mini golf and stayed open later. I know they have the summer madness thing, but they also close a lot of the food, and such during that. If they would keep it all open, we would stay, and have just as much fun. At the same time CC was a nice change of scenery for the night time, and the theme went well with "night" time entertainment in my opinion, the lights, and all that came about during that era etc, just seem "night" time.

Again though I think the price point was way off for the all city pass, and so was the day passes. I think they should of started off with a lower price point, and as they could add and build to the park and it's following raise the price.

Ditto to what Ozark BBQ said. Some stereo types exist because of the abundance of truth to them. (some that is, of course not many or not all).

It would personally ruin SDC to me. I don't personally like going to restaurants that have bars, or smoking, ruins the whole dinner for me. I wouldn't want to be at a park to relax being all nervous the whole day. The lack of alcohol is one of the magical things about SDC for me.

My mom's family is a large population of alcoholics. Sure it's not the alcohol's fault, it's the users. However, some users have no control and if it's available the user isn't going to do anything to control it. And then ruins the whole families experience, along with who ever else they decide to be around and effect that day. I can't tell you the family gatherings, weddings, etc that have been ruined in my family because of excessive use of alcohol, so much so it was my goal at my wedding to be the first wedding that didn't have to have police called to come and intervene in some knock down drag out fight that some drunk has decided to start, or because they are holding people hostage at gun point in their drunken paranoid state, etc. SDC was one place we could always go as a family relax, and actually have a "good" time with said family members. Since alcohol was not a option there.

My husband's family also has some of the same problems. Because of such, even though my husband and I in theory are not against the use/consumption of alcohol by every one or even by most people, him and I have just found it easier for our lives not to even have it in the equation we don't see any value in it (cost money we would rather spend on other things, and doesn't add anything to our lives of any value). So we have personally made a personal choice that we don't drink. It's not that we have never had a drink we both have, and both decided it just wasn't anything special to us, and after seeing how some of our family members have absolutely used it to destroy their lives-in fact one of my uncles died a few years ago from alcoholism and he was only 43 years old! He was only a few years older then me, each year as I get closer to 43 I just can't imagine that being the end of my life. Not to mention the last 10 years of his life he was so brain dead from such severe alcoholism he might as well of been physically dead! Every time he seen my husband he would introduce himself and tell my husband he was my uncle and he had never met him before. No matter how many times he met him.

I can't tell you how many times the drunks in my family have ruined nice times. It was always so sad to me, especially how they would ruin their own children's special days. However, going to SDC was always a relief, and they would be so happy knowing their dad wasn't going to be making a jerk of himself, and/or ruining what could be such a fun day. They would be so happy! So different in comparison to going places where alcohol was served.

And for my own self, I just can't even relax when I am around people drinking, responsibly or not, cause just too much stress from my childhood of the family who never could control themselves.

Again I know not every one is like that. My MIL and FIL can have one drink and leave it at that and be fine. And I don't worry about being around them. But, mixed company that I don't know and alcohol just ruins my time. Cause I just can't relax and enjoy my day worrying about which one might be the crazy! Not to mention the other things people brought up-vomiting, urinating on themselves, being obnoxious, etc etc.

Plus I would imagine by the time they had to hire grown ups to serve, pay the extra for liability, pay the extra people to handle any such fights, etc (security), pay for the alcohol license, the liability insurances-drunks on rides, drunks causing fights, anything like this could cause non drunk patrons to sue if they got caught in the middle of said situation through no fault of their own, etc etc. I wonder in the end just how profitable it really would be. And then of course the customers like me that it would ruin their time so much they would just not go. (I do not go to WOF, six flags, etc). I just don't see in the end it being that big of a money maker, as a money loser.

Random Talk / Re: Puppy Jail!! dog care,

There is a Residence Inn there. I only have a cat now. But Residence Inn is pet friendly and they allow pets. For the cat it's usually only a one time fee for the whole stay.

I am not sure about the one in branson, but when my inlaws came to visit us here in Kansas, and stayed at Residence Inn, I noticed they had a dog walking program. I am not sure of the price, but I noticed that the staff was taking a lot of dogs on walks! lol haha

Maybe call the one in branson and see what they have?

I am not trying to.......get some one to take some one else's room who may need it, but personally I am handicap and I always get the Residence Inn handicap room, and personally seeing the differences in them and the ones my inlaws always get, seems the handicap rooms are also more pet friendly! As the bathroom is huge and usually has a nice little place for me to put their water/food, and pet bed, litter box etc. Also the rooms being so big there is lots of room for them to play during the day, while we are gone. Again though doggies so much different, so I would see about the dog walking service.

The only thing with the other mini golf places is they are usually really really over loaded with teens. lol

And yes, I know all of branson for what I see is very clean, that's what I mean, I go there for the clean moral surroundings. I just brought that up cause I meant, I'm not looking for a night club scene or anything.

We always did do the mini golf and go carts with my family after dark, but I kind of liked the CC feel after dark MORE then the average mini golf/go-kart place on the strip. But, that was just me. Also most those places only have like pizza and burgers to eat. It would be nice to have a place that is a bit more adult, to go to, still clean (again not looking for night club stuff, just adult, and not over ran by teens). I like the landing personally, but it would be nice if most the stuff was open just a tad longer, and had a few more things besides shopping to do. I like the fire and music there though, just a few more things, like maybe mini golf on the water, here in Wichita, Kansas we have this place called exploration center, it's on the river, they even rerouted the river for it (just as a FYI I don't like the rerouting!) any way they have mini golf on the water there. We do love though some of the restaurants at the landing, they are nice with the rest of the family or by ourselves. I just am saying I like the idea of a boardwalk type park for CC a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Personally I wouldn't of minded CC just staying how it was if open just slightly later, and cheaper season passes, especially a discount for SDC season pass holders (larger discount!). I really liked going there personally.

Also I know there is lots of shows my dad really likes doing that too, me.....I like the SDC shows enough, I don't need to sit and watch another one after wards for the most part. Plus don't really have or want to spend the money on something that expensive. Would rather have something cheaper to do-walking around, maybe mini golf, etc more in my price range.

Also my husband and I both wish it was a bigger Bass Pro shop, more like the one in Springfield however, we understand perfectly that will probably NEVER happen as it would just be a HUGE mistake for the one already in Springfield, would probably go waaay down after that, as most wouldn't probably go ahead and travel up there for it, but stay in Branson and just go to that one. But, I wish they were a bit bigger, at least having some of the live animals. We love the bass pro in Springfield, love the fish show, and the ducks, turtles, etc. But, I think more things similar to that for adults to do would go over well.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I must disagree with one of the first page posters. I too would like to see something to do after dark in Branson.

The year we had CC season passes. My husband and I had a hyper toddler and I was preggo. Along with we went with my family, which I have 17 siblings! We had been with them all day. At the end of the day my parents volunteered to keep our toddler for a few hours (we are all night time people), and we had been skiing, SDCing etc that day. But, still it was nice to get out of the cabin for a few hours. We went to CC and played mini golf, which was hilarious cause we ended up having to give up when we lost our last ball, they didn't have it lit well enough for after dark play! lol And our balls kept going in the bushes and such where we couldn't see at ALL! lol However, we had a great time, even though I was exhausted, and so was hubby. But, we were sooo happy to have something to do after dark for a couple of hours. I'm betting there's others like us that would like to just go some where with out the kids for a couple of hours, still wholesome though, and be together as a couple. That made CC perfect for us at the time. I'm sure there's other parents, who have older (old enough-not toddlers! lol) kids that they could legally and probably consciencly leave back at the cabin to watch TV or what not while they go do something by themselves, after being the whole day/week/year with the kids. lol Don't get me wrong we love our kids, and I'm a stay at home mom. But, again it was nice to have a couple of hours after dark to do something wholesome by ourselves. And with my siblings, (they are teens for the most part) they think staying at the cabin/hotel after dark is a REAL treat cause we don't have "tv" at home (we live in the country and my parents aren't paying for satelite just for tv) so they are always more then happy after a long day on the lake or at SDC to go back and just veg watching TV that they never get to watch except for on vacation. Meanwhile I find sitting in front of the boob tube totally boring and want to go DO something else! lol ;o) I would love to see Branson have some wholesome night life fun!

Dollywood Discussion / Re: Did you see this yet?

I am positive that Dolly would stand up for the gay rights as that is a huge following of hers, and she is very open minded.

That being said, when I first read what the shirt said, I thought personally a lot of "gay" people would be offended by the shirt, as most I know want the word "gay" to stop being used in a negative way. And as was brought out, now people use gay as a negative word, meaning lame, and such.

Oh well semantics there. The point for sure is every property owner has a right to a dress code, schools, stores, etc. I'm a hillbilly as some may call it, but I don't go to the media about the no shoes no service rules at most public places. lol haha I go ahead and abide and put my shoes on! haha

I would bet since it has to be a personal call by each ticket taker or what ever it's a hard job, and I would assume that the employee meant no disrespect, but was just trying to do their job. My sister once wore a swim suit to SDC that the gate employee said she needed a shirt over. We didn't raise a stink she got a shirt and put it on.

As for blacks at SDC, well it's true till the last decade there wasn't many. I always personally used that to my advantage. haha I always could find my dad and siblings. My dad is Mexican and he and my step mother have adopted 6 children from Haiti. When ever I lost them, all I had to do was ask around if some one seen a Mexican man with 6 black children go by and every one seemed to know exactly what direction they went in! lol I personally am in a bi-racial marriage myself. The first few years I went with my husband there still wasn't much ethnic diversity on the park. I think mainly it was a regional thing, not because they weren't allowed, or weren't welcomed. I have to say we have NEVER had any problems with SDC and racism. However, because I rarely seen many blacks around the area (till less then 10 years ago) I will say I was a little scared to tent camp at the Wilderness the first year by ourselves. Well, quite honestly I was VERY afraid. While we were there, there was a terrible storm. The men from two trailers parked next to our tent both came during the storm, first one scared me to death, I was like oh no.......trouble, but instead the man said my wife sent me to see if you were ok, do you want to come to our trailer for shelter? We kindly thanked him and said we would be ok, had tent camped in worse (which I have, I had the tent pretty secured as I was used to tent camping in such conditions), and then the other trailer on the other side of us man/husband also came to check on us. I've never been worried again. To tell you the truth, I was quite impressed and very proud for lack of a better word at the love and concern shown.

But, again even though there never used to be many on the park, even when my family was all I seen there that wasn't of the norm, we never had a service problem at all at SDC. And always had more then nice service from every one there.

Discounts and Cost-Saving Tips / Re: Eureka Springs....

Also make sure to eat locally, and not the chain stuff. You can find some really neat little restaurants with really good food.

My step mom's good friend from school's parents used to own a tea shop there that was sooooooo yummy. They have since died and the tea shop with them. But, I just love the little local places to eat there. And of course all the little local shops, with all the crafts and such.

It is for sure home, I wish I could afford to move to the ozarks. I always feel so much better, not just mentally but physically.

I was sick as a dog when I went there a few years ago preggers with DD1. I told my husband I knew once I got there I would feel better, and I did. Something about the ozarks is VERY healthy for me. It's not just a mental thing for me it's something physically about the ozarks that is the place for me to be. Of course that's where my family is originally from, but moved to Kansas when there was no jobs left there. (about 60 years ago). I go and look at my family's grave yards (my family owns two grave yards there with generations of my family laid to rest there), and my family's old homesteads, and such and so yes it will always be "home".

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Refillable Mugs

BTW I should of bought some when I was there that year, but didn't. I could kick myself, but I have looked high and low at garage sales and not found any around here. If any one gets a good deal of the kids, kid fest mugs, I need about three. I mean of course I will take them in piece mill. But, just to let every one know how many I need. I will pay what ever you do at the garage sale and shipping for them. I would for sure like it to be under 3 dollars for the garage sale part of the price. Same for the buzz saw falls mugs, still on the look out for more of them. We have a few but want more. I would love a tin cup as well! I think they were one of the coasters.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Refillable Mugs

We have a little bit of every thing. Are you sure the glass shop is no longer selling the glass mugs? They were still selling them up to two years ago? I didn't go the last two seasons. But, I know I bought one last time I was there for my next kid. I always buy one for each kid I have.

BTW, the small glass mugs are 75 cent refills, and large are 1.50. When they first came out they would sell them in the park advertising it was life time refills at those prices and they would never go up. So the answer about still bringing them and getting that price is YES! I mainly use the 75 cent ones for ice cream floats, as I mainly want ice cream and not much soda and that's the cheapest way to do that. I keep them in my stroller, other then that we have always bought belt clips and each had to carry their own.

Also up to two years ago, when you broke one, if you just could pick up the biggest piece or two and bring it back they would replace them for free. We did that a few times. There was no problems in replacing them.

I've personally never had a citizen question my mugs. I have had to remind a few though that it is 75 cents and not 1.00.

As for the mugs prices and how long they last. You have to read the fine print carefully. The newer ones are worded in a way where the price could go up with out any warning that the season that the price is wrote on them is all that is garunteed for that price. I can't think of exactly how it's worded and I keep the mugs put up high in the cabinet until SDC time so I'm not going to dig them out. lol But, some of the older plastic mugs are worded for that is the life time refill price. So those prices never seem to go up. The newer plastic mugs prices seem to go up every few years.

Construction/Rumors / Re: Areas for park expansion?

It was the second one you posted Rub that I ate at. We got the baked potatoes with BBQ brisket on them. They were really good. We really had a lot of fun at CC. I wish they had made better choices so it could of stayed open longer, my family really looked forward to seeing it grow.
#14
yeah if I had a smaller family and only staying a day or two in town may be better. Staying longer like a week the Village is good. We've even just stayed there with a few of us the "motel" rooms as they call them are also really cheap, but if you are going to branson for shows and what not a lot then not as good a place, it's mainly a good place if you want on the lake and easy access for SDC and cheap, and like you said to be able to eat in.

One thing I wanted to add, I know I said the owners were nice, but I mean they are just so extra nice. When we stayed in the "motel" rooms they don't have ovens, and the owner noticed we had 2 kids, and so he told my husband while we were there if we needed a oven to come up to the office and he and his wife would let us use the oven in their home! I couldn't believe it. I knew that trip I wasn't going to cook anything in a oven though, I was preggers again, and with other littles I wasn't going to do it. lol But, I thought how sweet. The owner almost every day (my husband would go up to the office for little somethings usually, towels, fresh bedding etc) would have really nice conversations with my husband as well. Talking about what we had done on the vacation thus far, any good restaurants that we had found, etc. And well it just meant a lot to us, to have such cheery and nice owners. That's what I miss about a lot of branson that used to be there once, and is slowly not being so, as much as it once was.

So true Ozark, quality all the way. That's what used to be best about the food at SDC! I don't understand why they can't keep that up. At the VERY least at the places that used to have that. They could still throw up some kids/family friendly "fast food" type joints around the park, and the complaining people about the lines that don't care about quality over fastness would just know those were the restaurants for them. lol Although it would be great to have it all be good quality like it used to be.

And exactly Miss. Now my kids do loooooooove french fries, cause my MIL gave them to them. And we don't. I mean we do once in a while but it's not one of our every day foods and I for sure am not going to pay "park" prices for french fries! Sorry. lol I would like to see them have more sides like Aunt Polly's has, a veggie or two (real veggie, not just french fried potatoes, things like green beans, collard greens I think would go great with the style food that is in that particular restaurant for instance, and such as that). And then of course like I said since they sell Chili there and as far as I know the only place that sells Chili on the park, and I believe in the winter they also have beef stew there (or at least they used to), then I have no idea why they wouldn't have corn bread, as most people like corn bread with such, and corn bread is a OZARK staple. In fact in my grandma's day (the great depression) that was the main meal of every day for the folks in the ozarks, corn bread and milk was dinner every night for my grandma. And as far as I know only Aunt Polly's sells it. With it being such a ozark original food, especially for the 1880's theme of the ozarks I think it should at least be where the chili and beef stew is. lol ;o)
