General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: 2021 Crowds
March 20, 2021, 12:51:42 PM
The biggest problem yesterday was the lack of equipment up and running.  1 train operating on Powder Keg is just cruel.  It's always amazed me that SDC doesn't seem to take the weather forecast into consideration when planning their day.  I could have told them that it would be fairly busy on Wednesday, very light on Thursday and packed on Friday, yet they had the same capacity on open attractions all 3 days.  They did finally add a 2nd train to Time Traveller yesterday which helped.

My first impression of Mystic is that it's a very nice ride but way too slow loading.  I can't imagine the wait for this one on a hot summer day.  It broke down repeatedly on Wednesday and Friday but we did eventually get everyone on once.

The Cinnamon Bread shop seemed to have trouble keeping up with demand even on the slow days.

All that being said, we'll head back over there around 5 or so this evening and see if we can capture an elusive ride on Powder Keg.

Is Jae still available to play Murphy or is he long since retired.  I see his name is still up on the front of the Saloon but haven't seen him there in a long time.

Friday July 19

The park was virtually empty on Friday afternoon.  We arrived around 2 and rode all of the coasters multiple times with very little wait.  Powder Keg was maybe 10 minutes and everything else including Time Traveller was a walkon.  It was a good day to be in the park.

We ended up going Sunday 3/17, Wednesday 3/20 and Saturday 3/23 arriving around 1 pm each day.  Sunday the 17th was by far the busiest day of the 3.

It didn't start raining today until just before 3 pm.  Time Traveler went from a 100 minute wait to a walkon pretty quick.  The kids rode it 5 times in about 30 minutes at around 4:30.  All the big rides except for Powder Keg stayed open.

I'm glad we went Wednesday.  It was cold and most guests left early.  Time Traveller was a 10 minute wait by 4 pm.

I hear it's much busier today.

We were there for a 5" snow during Spring Break 2013.  The park closed about an hour early that day to give the employees a head start getting home.

It looks like today's solution is to leave the back two rows empty in one of the trains.  It's been up for about 30 minutes now.

We tried Time Traveler 3 times today but it was down each time.  It was up for about 15 minutes early in the afternoon then about 10 minutes later in the day.  They finally gave up and shut it down for good just after 5.

Hopefully, they can bring someone in while the park is closed the next 2 days to fix it.  We'll try again on Wednesday.

Broke down again today.  I'm guessing that it's still under warranty and was hoping that they would bring in someone that knew how to fix it. That doesn't appear to be the case.

I was surprised to see only 1 train running on Powder Keg on Monday and not all of the seats were open on it.  By far the longest line in the park.  Are the other trains out of service?

We were there a week and a half ago and went to Powder Keg to open, and they were having problems with the restraints on one of the trains not locking and releasing properly so pulled it out of service.  I would think they'd have that fixed after a week though.

Plus Monday's are usually slow, so I'm not surprised at one train operation there.

Two trains are running on Powder Keg today.  Much more efficient. In general, the crowd seems slightly smaller than on Monday.  Must be the heat.  We showed up about 2 and the trams leaving the park were packed.

The actual name of the ride is "The Giant Barn Swing" but we've always called it the Giant Swing.

Others:  Thunderation is TNT.  Flooded Mine is "Shoot the Guns".

We watched Scrooge on the Saturday night of Thanksgiving week.  Just happened to wander up minutes before showtime and sat down just as it was starting.  Seats were near the back but not too bad.

No waiting in line and no extra fee.

TNT and Wildfire's 2nd trains and PK's 3rd train are all in winter rehab tear down already. With a very short off season and more thrill rides now they have no choice but to start early.

Wildfire had 2 trains running on Saturday night but only one on Sunday.

I was told that TNT also had 2 running on Saturday night but I didn't ride it myself.  The wait was less than 10 minutes on Saturday and 45+ on Sunday, which is typical with only one train.

PowderKeg had 2 trains both days.  Train 3 appears to be shut down.

The Swing had both arm swinging on Saturday but only 1 on Sunday.
It was a walkon Saturday and a 30+ minute wait on a Sunday.

Outlaw run had 2 trains both days.  We rode multiple times with a max wait of 10-15 minutes.
