HFEC has a program called "Share it Forward" this program helps out employees who may be going through a rough patch in their lives and might need help with some bills or medical charges. For every dollar raised the company matches a dollar and the Herchend family also matches a dollar. This year the program has been expanded to help single moms working at the park by providing extra money each month worked at the park. All the money collected from the robberies goes to Share it Forward.

How else can we donate money to this?

SteamFreak

I'm not sure how outside donations would be taken, my donation come directly out of my paycheck. I'll find out if non-employees can contribute.

PastorDon

Maybe they should put up a little sign in the train cars saying something like "All loot from train robberies is donated to chairity."  If I knew that going in I'd probably put the ol' crowbar a little deeper in the wallet.

Good idea, but I would want to know to which charity my money was going.

Maybe I'm too trusting, but I guess if SDC thought it was a worthy cause I'd give.

This is what some of the money that HFE makes goes to. I know a portion of the money from the Ozark Mountain Daredevils Concert is going this direction.

Things like this are in my opinion what sets this park above the rest.

Please don't get me wrong.  It's incredible to me that such a large organization has such an eye toward the community and to charity.  However, this is exactly what I mean by wanting to know what the charity is.  A person may or may not share the tenets of a church being supported, and therefore would be supporting what they (again, may or may not) believe is a false message.  I think a person has a right to know where his money is going.  Having said that, I have to admire the conviction of a company that is so committed to their own beliefs.

Read what Steam wrote about "Share it forward", that's why we were talking about donating!

History Buff

Yes, and as I understand it, the single mom's program is another religious ministry (overseen by Peter's wife).  My point is simply that I would like for HFE to be more specific about their charities to allow visitors to make their own decisions about giving to the specific causes based on their personal belief systems.

I don't think they are hiding where the money is going.  Especially since they have a website explaining everything about their charity.  I don't see any denial of rights going on at all.  A person has the right to do the leg work and investigate the charity before they throw their money in the pile.  I never throw money down the rabbit hole just because someone claims they are a "charity".  And as far as the train robbery skit, I don't think they are guilty of "failure to disclose", because you are really not being robbed, and therefore aren't forced to donate to the secret charity behind this farce.

Also, I can't believe it would make anyone feel better that the train holdup proceeds were going to a Mountain Dew and a sandwich score by the robbers as opposed to helping bring a little light to some struggling kids.

By the way this is not intended to be offensive to you in any way Mr. Buff.  Just a counter point to the popular way of thinking these days.  A charity can be aimed at saving Whales or rainbows and nobody says boo, but let it be affiliated with a ministry and...whoahhhh there mister,  what are you trying to pull!
