At the beginning of the summer, me and one of my friends were driving to SDC and she was using a GPS. I told her we didn't need it, cuz I could probably drive there with my eyes closed, but who ever listens to me? The GPS was telling us to take weird exits and we would have ended up on 76 in the middle of that awful traffic. I told her to take a different exit than the GPS said to go, then she got mad at me and kept saying how she paid all this money for the GPS. I finally convinced her to do it my way by saying "Were we planning on staying in Branson all night?"
She said "No."
So I said, "Then go the way I tell you or we'll sit in traffic on The Strip and if we're lucky, we might make it to SDC tomorrow."
She got annoyed and said "Fine"

(she's the one in my profile picture, in the white shirt. I'm the one in purple.)

haha! Maybe next time, she'll let me drive!

I literally know my way around SDC, and Branson better than in St. Louis where I have lived my whole life! Funny how the brain works!

I had to borrow my grandma's car while mine was in the shop once, and her car has a GPS built in. I was bored one day, so I put in a random destination in the GPS and followed every direction exactly how it said to go. I got so lost using that thing!! Luckily I was in the next town over so I knew how to get back home!

I just got back from psychology, and the teacher had us do a relaxation thing (basically "go to your happy place"). She had us close our eyes and do our best to relax. As she was describing everything, like picture the trees, think of the smells, try to hear the sounds...   I couldn't get SDC out of my head! I tried, but with every description she gave, it kept bringing me back!

Even when she said, "Think of a meadow...." I pictured the Square on Main Street.
And as we were walking through our imagination land, she said "You get tired and want to sit down. Do you find a log, or a rock? Where do you sit?" I 'sat' on one of those rocks walls they put around trees and flower beds.

I THINK I'M LOSING MY MIND!! AND I LOVE IT!!

thats right!  sdc is "our" happy place.

What i want to know is did you get your replacement DVD set? Beverly Hillbilly's?

Speaking of navigating, a GPS unit will always get you to your destination - eventually. Nothing beats plotting a course on a map, although I still keep my GPS unit just so I know how many more miles I have until I finally get to Silver Dollar City. ;D

Silver Dollar City is also my happy place. Whenever I am feeling stressed, I just play some bluegrass music, and start flipping through pictures from my previous visits.

True story!  Two summers ago, I was using my GPS to look for an alternate route around St. Louis traffic on my way to Branson.  (yeah, yeah, yeah - I can drive to Branson blind-folded, but that St. Louis traffic - yikes!).  Anyway, Sylvia (GPS voice) began telling me to "turn around when possible".  GPS was guiding me to Anchorage, Alaska!  So much for a shortcut, huh?

sanddunerider

gilligan,  funny.  BUT did Sylvia get you around the traffic??  LOL

Ozark Outlaw

My GPS voice is a guy. I don't dare let a woman navigate.

I'm teasing! Just teasing. ;) :P :)

see ozark?  I have always wondered about that detail!!!!!!! :o :o :o

Sylvia was of no help at all with an alternate route!  ??? I might think about replacing her with a man's voice.  I can buy "John Wayne" for a small fee, but I'd rather spend that money on a Sullivan's cinnamon roll.

I like using the map app on my phone. With my location turned on, it shows me where I am but doesn't try to tell me where to go. If I type in what I'm looking for, it pinpoints that location and I can pick my own route.

As an old artilleryman from an armored cavalry unit, I compulsively conduct a thorough map recon before going anywhere unfamiliar, or when looking for a different route to places I've been before. And then I just drive it without even looking at the map, which drives my wife crazy.

Okay, on a long trip I'll occasionally re-check the route when we stop for breaks, but that's about it.
