That first half was TERRIBLE!!!! >:(  Maybe they forgot game time was at 1:00? ???

Let's hope the second half features a HUGE run.

sdcforever

Well, we won the second half 46-45, but that doesn't mean much when you're in a 19-45 hole starting out the half.

We just don't play well on the road, now dropping to 5-4 on the road (2-1 on a neutral site, 17-0 at home).  We don't really have a big man inside that can compete against good big men, giving up 19 points and 14 boards to Aldrich.  A win against OU is definitely possible since we'll be at home, but Blake Griffin could end up with 40-50 points and 30 boards against us!  (He looked like his old self at Texas Tech, putting up 20 points and grabbing 19 boards).  We'll learn a lot about our poise away from home at the conference tournament.

I'm still not convinced that Mizzou is truly a great team.  They're great at home, but they're nothing special on the road or at neutral sites.  I'll be convinced of their greatness if they can make a serious run at the conference championship (i.e. making it to the championship game and losing a close one, at the very least) in Oklahoma City.  Our last game at A&M is not going to be easy.  Mizzou's average on the road, even against so-so teams, and playing on the road in the Big 12 is no cake walk, as KU and OU proved last night.

I don't understand how one could not think Missouri is a great team.
18-0 at home.  3 of their 5 losses were to ranked teams (at the time).

You could say the same thing about kansas.  They have lost all of their games on the road or on neutral sites, does that make you think they are not a great team either?

Just trying to figure out your reasoning for a statement that (to me at least) has no merit behind it.  I mean we could quote facts and statistics out the wahzoo that states otherwise and support the fact that Missouri is a great team this year.

^^Yes, I know what you mean.  I've seen them look really, really good, and also really, really bad.  Nevertheless, I am very excited for them.  They're real close to being a great team, very scrappy.  If they had a component similar to Blake Griffin, it would definitely push them over the top.  If they play in the championship of the Big 12 Tourney, I can see them as maybe a 3 or 2 seed in the NCAA, but not a 1, even if they win.  If they come up short in the B12T, they'll probably get a 5 or maybe a 4 seed.

However, congrats on great job against OU.  They did a great job of keeping Griffin from dominating like he can.  Quite a different team than a couple of nights ago against KU.  And KU looked horrible against TT.  Go figure.

I think my thing with Mizzou is that they are a well balanced team.  They don't have to have a marquee player like Griffin because honestly a Griffin would not fit the persona of the Missouri team.  There is no star so the team gets it done AS A TEAM and does not have to rely solely on one player.  We all saw how OU fell apart wehn Griffin was out of the equation.  I'm glad that Mizzou is not like that -- they are a multi-faceted team and not a one-dimensional team like OU is.  Another that could plead their case like that is kU.

I guess my definition of great is different from others.  I think that Mizzou is a very good team, but really lacks that definitive road win against a top tier team (the Texas win was good, but Texas was overrated to start the season).  The truly great teams, in my mind, have strong road wins against a top tier team; the great teams, for me, are Connecticut (won at Louisville), Pittsburgh (won at Villanova and Connecticut), and North Carolina (won at Duke).  If Mizzou had won at Kansas, then it would have put them over the hump.  I'm really anxious to see how we do in the conference tournament.  In all likelihood we'll meet Oklahoma again, in what will amount to a home game for the Sooners.  If we can win that game (should it be played), then I'll feel we've moved from very good to great.

Swoosh

Well I think Mizzou proved themselves with definitive road wins when they beat Georgia at Georgia, OSU at Stillwater, and definitely Texas at Austin.

I wouldn't call Texas overrated considering that they too beat OU this season.

Also how quickly we forget that Mizzou also have victories over USC and Cal this season.
Plus they swept ISU for the first time in like forever.  Hilton Colliseum is hard place for visitors to win in regardless how bad ISU is.

^All of your points are moot as to my definition of great, though.  My definition of great hinges on a good road win against a top tier team.  OSU is good, but not top tier.  Georgia's 12-18, definitely not top tier.  Also, neither Georgia nor OSU is nationally ranked.  Texas beat OU, but at home and OU was without Griffin.  Cal's a good team, but not top tier (not nationally ranked, plus that game was in Columbia).  The win over USC was on a neutral court, and USC is good but not top tier (not nationally ranked).  In fact, all of the wins you point out are against teams that aren't even ranked right now.

I agree that ISU is a tough place to play, but they're not a top tier team and they haven't been tough at home the past two years, going 12-6 at home each of those years.

As I said before, Mizzou is a very good team.  They've made great strides this year.  I just feel they need to take one more step to justify a a top 3 seed in the NCAA tournament, and they can take that step in the conference tournament.  I'll also be interested to see how we fare tomorrow at A&M; we haven't had much luck against them in the past few years.
