"They don't hit nothin' though... They're New York Yankees." - Alfie Bolin

Ozark Outlaw

Wow, what a shame! He was not a legend, he was the legend! However, it is good to know that he was able to live a long, and fulfilled life. He was such an inspiration, and influence to the bluegrass music that so many of us listen to today. He will be missed, but hopefully his music will live on forever.

How-doFolks

just saw this on the news.. RIP Earl..
Live life like it's the last day!

Junior

Back in about 1980 or 1981 Earl Scruggs performed on a flatbed hay wagon in front of what is now Cowboy Jepps (old general store) Some of us guys from the diving bell, as well as a few other "characters," worked the show as kind of-bodyguards. We stood in front of the stage in case people got up too close. After about ten minutes into the show and a well behaved crowd, we were not needed, so we stood  around the back side of the old gazebo and enjoyed the show. A good memory. Scruggs was a classic...God bless him and best wishes to his family.
"Howdy there folks! My name is Junior Dugan, and I'll be drivin' your diving bell!"

I Figured at some point he had been to perform at SDC.

Interesting story Junior. It would have been amazing to see him perform during the prime of his career. Music to my ears (pun intended)! ;D

My bluegrass jam next weekend will be showcasing some Scruggs (I am only a supporting cast, I am by no means a key player)

If we can get a video of the tribute I will put it up here.
