Dollywood is replacing Dreamland Forest with the new Giant Swing, and a new barnyard themed play area. The New attractions will be located adjacent to the Mountain Slidewinder (i'm excited that Slidewinder is not getting removed!!!) The Play Area will have a pig pen themed water play area. The Giant Swing will be bigger than SDC's Giant Swing DW's will go 81 feet and 45mph with a custom built ADA seat. Dollywood's will be named the Barnstormer themed to the partons farm yard way of life, and the area will be called Owen's Farm. Here's the link if you guys want to check it out!

I'm curious...why are they naming the area Owens' Farm? It it a tie to local history?

It's a tribute to one of the characters in Throw Mama from the Train.

Just kidding - I wondered the same thing.

I thought it was interesting that this isn't going to be called a swing, but a "barnstormer" - something outside of SDC's theming.

Well the most obvious answer is that Dolly's Uncle's last name is Owens
...but DW fans like to joke it is named after Pete Owens, the park PR mgr

Like I said on Thrillnetwork, I'm glad DW is getting one of these too. The Giant Swing at SDC is a far better ride for it's barn facade.

I just think it's lame that DF is biting the dust. I haven't been there to experience it myself, so maybe it's not a big a deal as it sounds, but I hate to see all the unique attractions be taken out to make room for rides. At one time, these huge play structures were some of the biggest draws to the parks, at least for my family.

^DF had pretty much run its course.  It was in need of a huge refurb as most of the effects had broke a long time ago and were just never fixed.  DW's will also have a barn facade

Looks like the teaser site is up: http://www.dollywood.com/land/barnstormer/index.html

And somebody got their hands on a concept video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7u5OVb9nNI&feature=player_embedded

Looks like it'll be themed to the teeth as usual.

If you click on the "Dueling Daredevils" or on the pilots in the left corner, It takes you into a great precedence, back story/ theme of Owen's Farm, The story of Rooster and Angel Flanagan as well as Stormy Severs. Everything down to how tall they are or what they look like is included...that is a GREAT theming if you ask me

Awesome catch on the website! It's interesting how Dollywood is going after an airplane barnstormer theme which is something Silver Dollar City couldn't pull off because it is restricted to the 1880's theme.

I think Dollywood has a winner here, and their teaser site looks fantastic, and very informative. The concept video looks very realistic! It almost makes me feel like I could step onboard right now. :D

Well the Barn theme has worked well at SDC.  Looks like a clone almost..

Years ago Silver Dollar City, and Dollywood had very similar rides (which they still do). Then later on they started introducing several independent rides from each other. Now with River Blast, and River Battle, and with The Giant Swing, and this new Barnstormer ride, it seems that they are going back from being sisters, to being twins again. At least from a rides perspective. :)

Maybe they were buying the rides in bulk, or maybe they have a buy one get one plan, or possibly it is a punch card with the company- buy 3 and the 4th one is free.
