I'm am completely surprising my husband with a birthday trip to SDC in 2 weeks. I'm going to pack all of his stuff, I'm paying for everything. We already have our season tickets.
We are going to meet a couple of our friends who will also be celebrating a birthday.

I have been to SDC most summers of my childhood and so have our friends. My husband and I both love rides, so we will definitely be wanting to ride the rides.
We are planning on driving up on Wednesday and hanging out, and then surprising him by just showing up there on Thursday. We are planning on taking it slow and being able to show him everything, so we are also going to go back on Friday and then head home.

I wanted to ask if anyone had any pointers. I've never been without my parents, so I'm not used to being able to make the decisions for the trip. We have our hotel booked. It includes a reportedly wonderful breakfast. We already have dinner planned for every night. We are planning on eating whatever we want for lunch in the park, and probably packing some snacks to munch on during the day. (I think about food a lot)

I have been worrying about packing my husband's bag for him, but he's a man, so it probably shouldn't be too hard.

Any pointers?

This is a local family owned operation.. good discounts and will deliver to you motel for no charge...Talk to Patti or Laurie, Tell them Dan from Lyndon,ks told ya to call..

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!!
\
AND WELCOME TO THE GROUP!!!!

I'm not even sure we're going to do any shows while we're there! Definitely going to go shopping a little at the Tanger outlet. We're going to use that as kinda faking my husband out to pretend like he'll hate the whole weekend. Hoping it will make it even better when he realizes what we're really doing.

But I am definitely coming back later in the summer with another group of people! I plan to spend as much of the summer as possible at SDC!

We are obsessing over this trip! My friend and I keep trying to plan the smallest little things and just want to be there right now!
Can anyone think of any kinda of order to hit things? I want to hit everything, except probably the little kid rides. But even things like the School House and stuff.
I just keep thinking about our trip and wanting to plan more and more things!
I even ordered some new shoes (Keen le paz wraps) because they looked comfortable enough but will be fine if we get wet from rain or the Great American Plunge or something.

I hope you and HUBS have a great "first time"  :o  ;D  ::)
Any birthday at SDC is a good birthday. We always spend my wifeys birthday at SDC. Sanddunerider spends his birthday at SDC also. (of course his bday and my wifes bday is 1 day apart).  We usually try to spend my birthday either at SDC or at our fav campground. We both love camping too.

Again have a blast!!!

How-doFolks

I say this to everyone, dont forget the cave!! Hope you can fit it in for your husband. Have fun & do the best stuff 1st!!
Live life like it's the last day!

We are definitely planning on going through the cave.
I haven't done it since I was a very small child! I didn't even remember that it was actually AT SDC. I don't know if I even remembered that the cave I went in was in Branson. I just kinda remember going in it. But we loved it. So yes, we're going to do that again!!

Ozarks Gal

I also went every summer during my childhood. Great Memories!

If you both love rides then your best plan would be to hit the coasters first thing in the morning for shorter lines. Thursday is usually a lighter crowd than Friday, too.
"Red Flanders, you come back in here and put on your pants!" "Well Sadie, I ain't got no pants no more. The dang Baldknobbers stole 'em!"

Good point. I'm wondering if there is any way to have a clue about how busy it might be. We thought it would be a good time to go because it's early in the season, but not opening weekend or anything.

I am just so excited, though. It seems like I can't think of anything else!

Thank you, everyone, for the wonderful welcoming, by the way!

lindseytoni

I am so excited. I already have most of my stuff packed. I'm still a little worried about having to pack hubby's stuff for him.

I just can't wait! We're leaving a week from today and it just isn't soon enough!

By the way, I am already working on making my own beef jerky as a snack for the trip. I'm pretty proud of myself for thinking of that. I started making my own beef jerky before Christmas and realized that it's so much better than the regular stuff. Just worried that we'll eat it all on the way there!

I keep trying to think if there is something else that I can plan for the trip or if there is anything that I'm forgetting, but we are pretty much ready!

It's an old, old story, but I love the Shepherd of the Hills play.  It opens this week.  I know quite a few people don't like it, but the outdoor theater is beautiful, and I'll never get tired of it.  I got to see it every summer I spent with my grandparents in the Ozarks.
