What routines or traditions do you have at the park?

I got to thinking about WHY our family always takes the route that we do when going into the park. I think it stems from 1970 when Shad Heller, dear departed mayor of hero township and blacksmith, was at the forge.

I think you're right. I always had to see the blacksmith first thing, even though he usually wasn't smithing (he did more casting than anything when I was a kid). And from there it seemed natural to drop right on down the hill to watch the glassblowers, and keep on going.

First, I pass through the bakery, taking in the scents, and buy a giant cinnamon roll (unless I'm meeting people at the Mill for breakfast), then say "good morning" to the folks at Marvel Cave.  I almost always go to the Homestead first, then down around to the knife shop, then take my first ride on FITH.  After that, a lot of zig-zagging through the city, checking lines, greeting friends, etc., looking for that "perfect" picture.

Most of the time, I don't go near the GE area, unless the kids are with.  I have to agree on cardiac hill- 3 weeks after my attack, last year, I made the mistake of going up this way, and barely made it to Honey Heaven.  I was happy Cheri was working, we had a great visit!

Of course, I still reflect on my youth, hitting Grandfather's Mansion & taking a few moments to sigh at the tree house.  FM & the Frisco are always a tradition... Now, the food?  Hmnn...

I'll usually make a beeline to the pottery shop after breakfast. I could spend hours just watching them work. I usually buy something there on my first visit of the season, and have it sent to the front of the park for pickup later.

After the opening ceremonies are completed, I make a mad dash straight for Powder Keg, and get as many rides out of that as I can before the lines start to build up. I then navigate over to Wildfire, and ride that a few times to keep the adrenaline going. After my morning rush, I then go for other activities such as Thunderation, Fire in the Hole, Lost Mine, the train, and others.

No matter what though, I always have to get my big ride thrills out first thing in the morning. ;D

^I hear ya, Ozark BBQ, and welcome to the site! :)

There's something about riding Wildfire, Powder Keg, and ThuNderaTion first thing in the morning.  Especially if it's slightly chilly.  The cool wind rushing past my face wakes me up better than coffee. :D

Reading these I just realized  that we have no pattern at all!  Sometimes we go to FiTH first.  Sometimes we go to The GE first, occasionally we go through shops first.

This year though, we will go to the measuring station first regardless!

Maybe we can start a tradition in that area.

How-doFolks

Hospitality House first to look for shirts, hats, ect.. Smoke a cig - Watch open'n ceremonies - Giant Swing or Powderkeg for first ride of rides - walk & enjoy shops, & people watch - lunch at Aunt Pollys - ride ol'-school rides like Fire in the Hole, Flooded Mine, train - start the real shoppin' about 3pm - lye soap & taffy store are always last. Get apple butter & other stuff on the way out.
And wishin' you was still there on the bus ride to the car. Cuz ya gettin' to old to make it all day.... ::)

I DID start off my trip with the tram but now its history so's now the new tradition is to go into the park and go RIGHT!!! Righty is always all-righty. snake my way down and stop at what ever strikes my fancy. My trips there are pretty unopredictable now that I let my 4 year old do most tha pickin on what we do so we always end up back in the Expo and then we make it to FITH. GG is always a stop and the pottery store w/o the kiddo. Always sans kid. Then its on to the Lost River and AP. He likes it all. He asked me to take him on PK but ummmm he is 4 and thats not happenin. One day though.....

we vary, left or right  depending on crown actually.  sometimes straight through and go past christmass hollow..or go the other way and ride the train. we never know,  sometimes pk, wildfire.  sometimes not..  walk around take in the sights, maybe a show, depending on whats showing.  But remember we go down at least once a month and go every sunday and monday morning while they are open.. So no pressure on what to do.. if we miss something, we will do it next month!
