I have to voice that I think heading west is an over rated show.
Honestly I felt that For the GLory was  much better.
What are your thoughts?

Honestly, I think your opinion sucks and that "Heading West" is amazing  :P

"For the Glory" had run its course and it was time for something new and "Heading West" does an amazing job for a theme park musical production outside of Disney.

Come on! Let's spread a little love here.  :)

Hey, c'mon now, let's play nice, please.

I haven't had the chance to see "Heading West" yet. I'll hopefully be able to this year. I never saw "For the Glory."

Personally, my favorite Opera House show was "Listen to the River." I've got the cassette tape and an autographed photo of the cast. LOVED that show so much.

I totally agree.  The continuity of the play ruins the whole thing for me.  Headin' West means they should cross the plains and then cross the mountains.  They refuse to make some easy changes to make this right.  Having said that, I do enjoy the music, and the performers do a fantastic job.

I still propose that we write a totally unique production called Marmaros, which has been discussed in another thread.  I volunteer to work on the writing and song selection.

I like the show.  Could there be a better show?  Probably.  I usually see it each season.  It's not one that I would watch twice in one visit like I have with Dickens.   ;)

I agree that the show does have its flaws.

Could she really not find time to tell him she's pregnant?  Maybe she didn't want him to not go because of her, but what wife would do that?

If he had just waited a few months, he could've taken the train, too.  He could have saved a lot of hassle.  But maybe all of the best land would be taken--lol.

I really can't complain about "Heading West".  I think they do a very nice job with it. The music is entertaining and you gotta love the old prospector!

I enjoy "Heading West" and I also enjoyed "For the Glory" and "Listen to the River".  I do wish the continuity changes would be made to HW.  My husband and I talk about that each time we see the show; doesn't make sense.  I wish SDC would post cast lists outside the theaters for all shows.

Anyway, we also enjoy "Dickens" but we also enjoyed the Christmas in the Ozarks show.  I wish SDC would revive a smaller version of Christmas in the Ozarks in the Riverside Playhouse.

I think HW is a pretty decent show.  And just because I work backstage for it doesn't mean I'm biased.  I've worked some shows that I would willingly admit were pretty bad.  I didn't consider FTG to be all that great of a show...it didn't flow well emotionally, quickly reaching a plateau and having nowhere to go at the end.  LTTR and DCC have been my favorites by far.

Yes, it does have that big continuity problem, which I've tried to rationalize by considering that the mine excursion might have been a bust for Luke, and he had to backtrack and work on that farm for awhile to earn more money to continue his journey.

StaceySue- "Could she really not find time to tell him she's pregnant?  Maybe she didn't want him to not go because of her, but what wife would do that?"  She thought about telling him but decided not to for just that reason.  It was a different age, and women were generally more subservient to their man's wishes.  Not saying that's good, just the way it was.

I really like HW..   but I Love DCC..  Zephon can you tell us if this is the last year for DCC?   There have been rumors.

Oh man, I hope that is not true.  That production helps me with the enjoyment of the christmas season.  It is so well done, it would really be a big mistake to replace it.

I've been hearing those rumors for about 6 years.  But based on the attitude and care we are instructed to take toward keeping the set in decent condition, I would guess the show will be around for another few years.  There has been talk of developing an original musical adaptation of "It's A Wonderful Life," but I'm not sure how far along they are with it.

Would they adapt it to the time period.

I think the Christmas Carol and It's a Wonderful life would work. Too bad they can't stage them both in separate venues on park.
