Question for you all...

I think the members of this site represent a pretty general cross-section of SDC guests, so I would like to get your opinion on the following scenario.

It's a very hot day at the City...into the 100's, and at the end of your day, you go to the Echo Hollow show in the evening.  Even though the sun is down below the hillside, the temperature down in that bowl is still in the mid to upper 90's, no breeze to speak of.  Normally, the show is just shy of being 2 hours long with a 15 minute intermission, but due to the heat, the stage manager decides to shorten the show to just over an hour with no intermission by cutting some of the numbers.

What is your reaction?  Would you be:

A)  Upset at not getting to see the whole 2 hour show regardless of the heat?

B)  Happy that you didn't have to sit through a 2 hour show in the heat?

C)  Indifferent since you didn't have to pay extra for the show anyway?

D)  Other?

This situation occurred this past Tuesday and Wednesday, and people didn't seem to be upset at a shorter show, applauding heartily at the end, plus, they had more time to take advantage of MM...but then, I wasn't in a position to gauge their reactions as they left the venue.  Just wondering what you all think about it...not that it's gonna make any difference since they're gonna do what they want to do anyway.

For me, it would have to be-being happy that I did not have to sweat any longer than  necessary. B

Hot and no breeze we would not have been sitting there even if it was Garth Brooks opening for Elvis Presley.  It would not have matter to us if it had been cut short or cancelled.  My family would have been hanging out at splash harbor getting wet and staying cool..... oh wait they took that down because it was a waste.

Since most daytime shows last from 20-40 minutes on the low end, and maybe about 50 minutes to an hour on the long end...probably a shorter Echo Hollow show would not bother me too much. Especially if I had not seen it before and did not know how long it usually was. However, if I was a "regular" at the Echo Hollow show, and they cut some of my favorite numbers, I would not be happy. I would be scratching my head thinking "why did they do that?" I feel sorry for those in the show who worked so hard on those numbers only to see them cut. As you know, I have a deep appreciation for the attractions/entertainment folks since I once was one of them.

Indifference for me. I would rather sweat than shiver. That being said I don't mind heat in the least. Since I had paid no extra, and I was able to experience part of the show, I would be alright, not happy about it, but not angry either. Here in StL a big group recently came through, and the show stopped after 3 songs of the 20 on the set list...it was not due to heat, but due to bird droppings falling onto the musicians. The germaphobe guitarist stated he could not go on anymore with it happening, and the show ended! Gross yes, but as a paying fan in this case I would have been angry.

I think a high energy hour would be great.  It is really hot in that concrete bowl.
How are the crowds to the show anyway?
I don't pay any attention, haven't been since Mike Patrick quit producing it some years back.

Hmm...Does This answer your question? And yes this was shot during the show from the porch.

I cant see the side but it looks like 300 or so people.
Maybe 500.
Are they still doing that 50's show?

rubedugans

No it is GAC Nights-a similar version to the GAC Country Music Show.

This year they are featuring some "oldies" and have a new finale apparently. It does say "weather permitting" on the website...

I saw both of the Peter Paul and Mary concerts.  I wish they would do things like that more often.
It was packed out when it was free.

I would have been upset if they cut the show short.   MM has cut into the crowds at EC for the show.  When I was there before MM started the Crowds seemed bigger.

I would completely understand if they want to protect the well-being of the performers as well as the guests.  It's a hundred times hotter anywhere you take the stage.

Well, I gather that most of you wouldn't be too upset about it.  And that's great.  My main focus throughout my career there has been that the guests be satisfied, and I was kinda worried about that.  The numbers that they cut during hot weather are some of the high energy dance numbers.  And you're right HB, the cuts are for the well-being of the entertainers as well as guests.

The show is very good this year, if you like the country music theme, and the comedy much better than last year.  Crowds are up from last year.

Actually okla, I think MM has helped increase the crowds for the show, generally speaking.  It would seem that adults come see the show while their youngsters are out riding rides.

That's a great picture rube!  Looks like it was taken as Jae is picking out volunteers for the "Talk Like A Hillbilly" segment.

Thank you all for your responses.

How many people does that place hold when the house is full.

I'll be honest, I've never watched GAC Nights.  It does not appeal to me.
I did got watch the 50th show there and I watched some World Fest acts there in the past, but other than that, I do not frequent Echo Hollow at all.

I still don't see why they don't do Christain Rock band concerts in there every weekend in the fall and call it ROCKtoberfest.  OR they could just bring the water / laser equipment from CC over here to SDC and install it there in Echo Hollow and put on nightly shows like I've been trying to tell them ever since CC closed.
