Aw! :-[

I have been waiting all of my life for Silver Dollar City to get an online store! Since Dollywood has one, perhaps Silver Dollar City is not too far behind?

Either way, congratulations Dollywood on receiving the much deserved award! :)

When I saw Dolly on Fox and Friends, the other day, my first thought was, I guess I know where the flagship is now.

I had wondered out loud about that very thought History Buff on a different thread a few months back.  With all the investments going into Dollywood over the past several years it begs the question if HFE is trying to make it the cornerstone of the chain.  I think it's a fair question to ask.

Anyone who is paying attention can tell just where the priorities are for this company.  With all the hype that lead up to the 50th anniversary, when the rubber hit the road it was a big disappointment.  Sure they gave us a weekend, but that was it.  It was almost like they were obligated to even do that.  Hang a few banners and signs....hand out some buttons....hey its a party done on the cheap.  Don't look for the on-line store anytime soon.  Heck anyone can start up an on-line store....EBAY anyone?...any on-line presence could have easily included SDC.  It's a shame to see how much the times have changed.  When the offices left SDC, so did its heart.  Like has been said its a business now more than anything.  They money will flow where the greatest chance for return is and that is DW.

I must say, Dollywood's 25th anniversary year, was a let down as well. I mean sure there were some new shows to the festivals, and a street party group, and a few exhibits, but, that was it. The 20th anniversary was much better.

Well, the unfortunate thing is that Silver Dollar City has basically painted themselves in a corner by design. One of the biggest premiums there is available space to build upon, and due to the geography it is becoming an increasing challenge.

On the other hand, Dollywood got its start by learning, and avoiding the mistakes made by Silver Dollar City in the early years. So Dollywood has been able to hit the ground running so to speak. Plus, since Dollywood's 1880's theme is a bit loose, management has greater flexibility to do whatever in the world they want to with the park. So yeah, Dollywood is the land of opportunity for the company.

My concern about Dollywood, what happens when Dolly passes away? She is well preserved, but she ain't no spring chicken. Will they retheme again? Will the fame Dolly has sustain the park to continue after her death? Sorry for being so morbid. Legitimate questions though.

Well she has no real ownership in the park.  It is just a partnership.  I would think it would be up to Dolly's family if they wold be allowed to continue to use her name and at what price HFE is willing to pay them.

I would daresay the HFE already owns the rights to hollywood and dixie stampede.

^ I know they own them but they do not own her name.

I'm pretty sure there are some legacy issues that will keep her name around.  Didn't they keep Walt's name on his company when he died?  Or did he really die?

Walt Disney Vs. Dolly Parton. Hmmm...I think Walt wins out here in terms of who will be remembered the longest after their death.
