Anyone that keeps up on theme parks has to know the sad story of SF NO, and the issues that have come about due to hurricane Katrina in 2005. The park has been closed for almost the past 5 years, and several attempts to renovate the park have fallen through. This video is haunting. It shows tha abandoned theme park and also gives some false claims as to the future usage of the site.

According to the city there are no plans to scrap the site as the video says. This video claims that it was shot with the city's permission, but the city also diputes that claim. The city in fact gave Smith, who was part of a film crew, permission to shoot the movie "The Courier" in October. Smith did not have permisssion to shoot any other videos at the park.

Although the video is supposedly false, there have been offers for redevelopment of the site, which has been owned by the city after Six Flags terminated their lease with the property last December. Last year, there were several proposals for development, including Southern Star Amusement who wanted to refurbish the rides and rebrand it as a Nickelodeon theme park. Big League Dreams wanted to redevelop the park into a sports complex.

The most recent offer for redevelopemnt has been from 3 Wise Men Entertainment Inc., which proposes to restore infastructure, utilities, structures and existing rides among other things. The company also proposes a resort with additional rides and a water park. All three proposals have not materialized, and the most recent one withdrew before approval was granted. The application is still pending.

that is a shame....  AND another woodie going to waste!

Junior

Checked out several of the YouTube videos and it is weird to see the place like that.
"Howdy there folks! My name is Junior Dugan, and I'll be drivin' your diving bell!"

Reminds me of the movie Zombieland that was filmed at Wild Adventure -the HFEC property in GA

A bit like if you left CC for a few years... I haven't been in since closure, but I have been outside, and along the fence enough times to have the same feeling of what is missing, what is sad, etc.

ALSO the music from Godspeed You Black Emperor "East Hastings" also featured in the film 28 days later doesn't help with the eerie mood. They could have played sounds from an active theme park with rides, and kids, and bells/ whistles and still gotten an eerie mood.

Wow, sorry to bring up an old thread but I feel like I need to post. I was in New Orleans in November and I had no idea there was an abandoned Six Flags park there. Just goes to show how forgotten it really is. That was indeed eerie...

Are there any updates on this? Was it in fact demolished in January?
"May there always be a Silver Dollar City..."

No, it hasn't been demolished. Six Flags has taken pretty much everything they want from the park at this point. The rest will rust away until the city is able to clear the land, and that could be a long time.
