Just got back from a two day visit to southwest Arkansas, home of Bill Clinton and Mike Huckabee, two noted Arkansas politicians. I visited Hope, Arkansas. Saw the two Clinton homes there...a "birthplace" home operated by the National Park Service, and a privately owned "childhood" home. Also visited the Hope Train Depot Museum, with displays on Clinton and Huckabee. Made a side trip to Old Washington State Park, site of a Colonial era town, and it has many, many preserved buildings pre-dating the Civil War. Park guides dress in period clothing. Kind of like Colonial Williamsburg, but in Arkansas. Or a SDC with no rides and VERY authentic theming! Sam Houston, Davy Crockett, and other Americans you have read about in history books passed through Washington, AR. The Bowie Knife was invented there, too. Also, remember that thing a few years ago called Hurricane Katrina? FEMA has a huge mobile home site in Hope, AR that is a staging area for shipping mobile homes to families in need after a major disaster. When I drove by there yesterday, they still had hundreds and hundreds of mobile homes parked on the site left over from Katrina! Government efficiency? You decide. A few photos are posted at my Flickr site:

That's just 45 miles south of me. We went to Old Washington just 2 weeks ago!

I've been to Hope once.  One of my best friends at SDC, Tony McCarty, is buried in a graveyard there, the name of which now escapes me.
"Why do they call them Wild Women?"

Are you going back for the Jonquil Festival? We'll be there on Friday.
