My 2 trip reports are in the World Fest thread.

Had a chance to visit Worldfest this weekend! Was on park Friday and Saturday, April 8th & 9th. This was a "sudden" trip. My wife said Thursday night "Why don't we visit SDC tomorrow?" So we did! Here is my trip review:

Got to park Friday at 3pm. Went down to Red & Gold Hall to see the Mayorov Russian State Comedy Circus. It was very good. Pretty full house, too. Just walked around the park a bit. Had a sliced tater on a stick and a frozen lemonade. (Yum!) Since the idea for the trip came from my wife, I had to sacrifice valuable SDC time for a visit to the Red Roof Mall. Ate supper at Charlie's in Branson. Had a good steak. (Yum!) Stayed overnight at the "AmazINN & Suites" on Shepherd of the Hills Expressway. It was a good place to stay, I would recommend it. (WANTED to stay at Eagle Lodge to take advantace of the SDCFans discount, but wife had other ideas.) On Saturday, had to sacrifice valuable SDC time for a visit to Tanger Outlets. Wife got some clothes, and purchased boots for some of the grandkids. On to SDC, Day #2: Wandered around park most of the day. Went through Fire in the Hole, and the "Fire in the Hole" effect WAS working. Saw the Saloon show. Good as always. Saw the Academic Band from Russia, nice Dixieland and Jazz from them at the Gazebo. Lunch at Wagonworks. Chicken wraps and taters (so-so, as they had been sitting on the serving line a while) Brief visit with Terry Sanders at the McHaffie Homestead, good to see him again. In my opening day trip report, I mentioned longtime SDC citizen Richard Young and his health problems. Saw his wife this trip, "Aunt Judy," and she said although the health problems continue, Richard was on duty working the line I think she said at the Opera House. I mentioned in my last report he had been "retired" by SDC but apparently I misunderstood Judy. Saw our good friend "Copper" at the cave, had a nice, but brief visit with him, good guy...good to see him again! Good weather both days, but a little warm. Light to moderate crowds, no lines ANYWHERE for anything. Good tram service in and out both days, and overall friendly and quick service everywhere my wife and I went. Overall review for this trip:  A BIG THUMBS UP!!! :D   Photos at the Flickr site:   http://www.flickr.com/photos/juniordugan

Oh, one special note. Someone was asking on a thread here if SDC sold pocket knives. I saw pocket knives in the Powderkeg Company Store next to the Lumbercamp. Powderkeg on one side, your name on the other. Also saw some very nice pocket knives on sale on the upper floor of the Woodcarvers Shop. No SDC logo on the handle, but the handle was made from some beautifully done stone or wood.

I went today sat the 9th and it was great! This is my third review so not much new. Wish i would have known junior was there (i would have said hi) Crowds were not bad we rode AP and got soaked, FITH (with working voice like junior said), then saw some friends and went on LROTO and GG. Then me and the Wife and kids went and watched the Russian comedy Circus at Red gold and it was great! the line was long so get there early if u see it. Then we went on FM and learned something new about the scores. After u hit 9900 points the guns skip to 100,000 instead of 10,000 and we rode twice just to confirm this. With only 30 min left we went to PK and my and my oldest rode that once. Now to the bad part... we got up to the gates at 6:05 and made it to the car in lot 5 at 6:45!!!!! all in all it was a great day but the trip out was a little long! I wouldn't say they never will. I would say that everytime they have to pull up asphalt it will be replaced with concrete because as stated before it lasts longer than and doesn't need to be sealed every year. as you walk around this year you will notice that there is a lot of concrete now.

Brick pavers or cobblestones would be the best choice. A little more expensive for initial installation than poured concrete, but cheaper in the long run, plus they're period appropriate.

We have brick paved streets in Texarkana that date to that same era.

SDC#1fan, Your kids are adorable!

KB Pavers would look good but they would have to worry about pulling weeds that would eventually grow. StaceySue thank you for your comments i happen to think that they are the best!  :)

History Buff

A little poison would take care of that.  The real problem would be the uneven surface that would cause falls and lawsuits.

I remember the days of the backwoods era when all up to and around it was just basically mulch or pine bark.

Anybody see basketmaker Donnie Ellison at the park this year, or has basketmaking been another "cut" by management?
