I know we have discussed this topic on another thread, but I thought that I would show you some photos of doors leading to "secret" places at SDC. I took the photos on opening day, 2011. As you look at the photos and read the captions below, keep this in mind:  DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT ENTER THESE PLACES SHOWN, not even to just take a peek! These areas are closed to guests, so PLEASE do not risk getting into trouble...possible eviction from the park...by going into these areas. Entering some of these areas could also be a safety hazard to guests. AGAIN, PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THESE AREAS!!! Thanks!

You can also add the photo of the Backstreet Law Office to my group of photos titled "Not in Miss Mary's time" because you will notice a modern trash can next to the law office door. Again, since I'm an "old timer" when I saw the trash can sitting there it just pissed me off to no end. Pardon my strong feelings here, because, it would never have been allowed in Miss Mary's Time!  ;)

The first basketball game was played in 1892, so that can fit in with the theme, even though it didn't completely resemble today's game until a little while after that.

I know basketball debuted in this period, but I doubt if it was played in the Ozarks all that much at the time. I think what really bugs me the most about this at SDC is that the "shoot the basketball through a hoop and win a prize" thing is just way too much "cheap traveling carnival" for me. Plus, people standing around bouncing basketballs is distractive to others. There are enough kids bouncing basketballs in my neighborhood to last me...I just don't want to see it at SDC.

A call for a more appropriate game and more appropriate prizes.  The neon monkeys at the dart throw are just as bad, but not as irritating as the basketballs being bounced and bounced and bounced and bounced and bounced and bounced and bounced and bounced and bounced and bounced and bounced and bounced and bounced and bounced and bounced and bounced...  I cringe.  :-\

HB,

So I understand you don't like the basketballs......  ;D

I didn't see them much my last trip.

probably because I still have not been to GE.

Last year was my first time to SDC since it was built.

If they insist on doing the basketball thing,  at least give away the balls deflated... ::) ::)

that would eliminate the bouncing and the bouncing and the bouncing and the...

Didnt see one this year on my trip either

So I know that the gate by the Candy Factory is on the list of "Do Not Enter" secret places (and hopefully no one would have to go there during their trip) but unfortunately that is also where First Aid is located so I'm thinking that place is one location that blurs the line.   By the way, couldn't they think of moving that to a different location?  There's a lot of behind the scenes stuff on the other side of that gate.

But didn't they used to have signage somewhere at the park even into the early 1990s as something like traveling back 100 years in the past?  I know they did when I was younger, and I believe they still did even at that time.

I know it's a stretch.   ;D

I know what you mean, though.  I don't like kids bouncing them around, but I don't recall it being much of an annoyance last year as when they were first introduced.

Basketball has been there for several seasons now for a reason...somebody pays to play the game and SDC makes a nice little profit. Business is business. But I'm with most of  you in that I don't like it there. Too much (bounce) of a (bounce) distraction (bounce) from what else (bounce) is going on there! :)

The park progressed into the 1890's during the 1990's.  The idea was to keep the park 100 years in the past and progress with the years.  Since that idea flopped, the park has been primarily an 1880s setting, though some of the antiques would point as far as into the 1930s.

Junior, you're right about the business aspect.  I realize that's true.  I guess if someone sues over a ball bouncer tripping an old lady when the bounce gets away from him/her, then maybe they will change the policy.  That seems to get pretty quick results.

If you check my postings on other threads, you will see a few examples of how when threatened with a potential lawsuit, some things will change, and very quickly.
