Since it is now "Bluegrass & BBQ" time at SDC, I'd like to draw your attention to two outstanding Bluegrass Bands. The first is a group called "The Missouri Boatride." I'm guessing they picked their name from the film "The Outlaw Jose Wales" from the scene in the movie where Jose shoots the rope on a ferry full of Union soldiers that are chasing him and sends 'em down the river on a "Missouri boatride." The group is based in Branson West, MO, and consists of many former SDC/Branson entertainers. They will be appearing at this years Bluegrass & BBQ Festival at SDC. One of the key members is Dean Webb...a member of The Dillards (The Darling Family of TAGS fame) who played at SDC as part of the "Swing and Turn Jubilee" when I worked at SDC all those years ago.  You can go to The Missouri Boatride Website:

                                                                  www.missouriboatride.com

The other band I would like to encourage  you to check out is "The Undergrass Boys." This band was HOT in the years I worked in Branson. They were hip with the college crowd, and they also were a band that worked at SDC. They did progressive Bluegrass, and only released one self titled album back in 1981. The word on the street is they are attempting to record a second album this year. They still play on rare occasions in the southwest Missouri area. They are based in Springfield, MO. Please check out their site on Facebook, and check out videos new and old of the group on youtube. Here is their facebook address:

Check out those Websites and tell me what you think. I really encourage you to try and catch both groups when they perform live. You will not be disappointed! ;D

I'm really sad that Dailey and Vincent won't be at the festival this year...Of course I can't make the fesitval so I'm sad I won't be there this year also. Question, why aren't they having Sierra Hull back? (I did see she was going to be performing at Dollywood.) She wasn't at the festival last year either. We went to the BBQ and Bluegrass Fesitival 3 years ago and got to see these performers. They were awesome. We also enjoyed Monroe Crossing then as well. Nothin' Fancy is awesome. I liked them much better than the Grascals, even though the Grascals are good too. I've enjoyed all the performers I've seen at the Bluegrass Fesitival. A few years ago I caught Ricky Skaggs down in the Echo Hollow theater on the last day of the festival. Very awesome!!! I've got to stop this response. It's paining me too much knowing this festival is going on and I can't be there...I think this is my favorite festival that I've been to (OTC is a close second).

To sample some Undergrass Boys music, go to their MySpace Website and click on music:

I especially like "That's the Way Life Goes," "Ruby Tuesday," and "Winter Song," and I'll point out the five cuts you can sample are half the cuts off their 1981 (and only) album. I actually still have the album on vinyl. I take it out of the closet on special occasions and handle it with care to play it. That music takes me back to the old days and SDC each time I listen to it!

Frequently during the summer you can see the Missouri Boatride in the parking lot of the Kimberling City shopping center on Friday and/or Saturday nights.
