Ok so I know this topic sounds furmiliar but I couldn't find the old thread. The new train car is out of the sdc rebuilding shop. Sorry I didn't get this out sooner but the car was put on the tracks Tues oct 11. My guess is that it will be operating in the next couple of weeks. This is great news however the car looks so out on place it's not even funny. It has a black rounded roof the white war replaced with cream and there is not ne'er as much frisco red. I myself eil not ride in this new car. Please submit ur photos of the car and ur opinions.
Stepping off my lye soap box now.

Wow, I can't even imagine what that looks like from that description. SDC's rail cars have such classic shapes that it's hard to believe they would throw it all away like that. Hopefully they rectify this soon.

Anybody have a picture of the new Frisco car?
Thanks,
Tony

When I worked on the railroad there were a lot of complaints about the height of the cars. I haven't seen it yet but my guess is the rounded design is to give some more head room. There was also a thought to make the cars look more light freight cars and make the train look more mixed to stay close to historical accuracy to what a train would have looked like in this area. There were many changes going on while I was there and though the classic design may be different it should be noted that they will bring about more accuracy. Something that people say is lacking at the city. The new design also will include a new braking system, something the train also needs badly.

When I was there last weekend the only way to get a good picture was to take a camera on the giant swing.

yea, i could not get a picture either,   when i saw the new car it was behind the spare train and cars,,  yes it does not match the others at all.

I was hoping it was still in primer paint?

I did notice it did not have any lights on it yet either...

I am picturing a train car that looks like the new parking lot trams...am I way off with this?

cocodane3

Uts hard to explain the best way would just be to get a picture. Ur not completely off and ur not completely right.

sanddunerider

Glad to see your post, Steam Freak!  We miss seeing you as conductor/train robber on the Frisco.

Stemfreak: What you up to now that you are not with the train?
"Howdy there folks! My name is Junior Dugan, and I'll be drivin' your diving bell!"

rubedugans

I was going to ask as well...are you still at the City?

Here's a picture of the new train car.  It isn't the best picture, but it was all we were able to get.

By the way, the new car is the one on the left in the background in the picture.

Nice catch! It appears the new cars have squared off windows. This will definitely take some getting used to.
