Got to the park right at 10am rope drop. We had to park on what I call "D" lot, the lot across old Indian Point Road from Stop 2 on the tram route. Busy on park, but still easy to get around. Temps until mid-day were so pleasant, that getting wet on RiverBlast left us cold. First trip for one of my grandsons today, so he wanted to ride train, Flooded Mine, hit Grand Exposition to ride the rides and play games. When we rode the train I was absolutely blown away with the progress on the new coaster. Last time I was on park was in May, and in the last three months what they have done knocked my socks off. This will be a ride that all fans will LOVE. Grandson is 10, and it surprised me that he wanted to go into Sullivan's Mill and watch the miller grind corn. He wanted to see it all, from shelled corn to the meal being put in bags. So we stayed and watched and Franklin Capps the miller answered his questions. Later in the day grandson was fascinated by the guy at the blacksmith shop who was making knifes out of railroad spikes, so we watched that for a half hour. Was glad to see he had an interest in some of the crafts. Was also surprised he wanted to go into many of the shops...and he looked at everything he could. He was really fascinated with the paintings by the artist who puts Christian symbols in the art, so he had the shop lady explain three of the paintings to him, and she showed him where all the Christian symbols were in the paintings. He loved that. He also loved the magic show and the magic shop. Left the parking lot about 4:45pm and headed home. I was wiped out. Grandson loved Geyser Gulch, too, and we spent much time there shooting the foam balls and the water cannons. He loved RiverBlast, and shooting water cannons at other people. I am just too tired to get photos ready for posting tonight, so I will try to do them for ya'll tomorrow if I have the energy. By the way...GET TO THE PARK AND CHECK OUT THE NEW COASTER...you will  not believe how fantastic it's gonna be! :D

Sounds great Junior!  The Mrs. and I will be going to SDC tomorrow AND Sunday with a group of friends, and I can't wait to see the progress on OR.  Haven't been to SDC since last year, so we're excited to finally get to go!  We'll also be camping at The Wilderness Campground Saturday night, so it would be a fun little get-away.  ;D

Wow, Junior!

We're the same age, and I have no grandchildren in sight, but you've got a 10yo grandson! Heck, my youngest child won't be 10 until November!

We're in the process of a major move across country, so we definitely won't be at the City this year, but we'll have to plan a visit for our summer vacation and trip home to Arkansas next summer, when we'll get to ride this beast!

You might say I'm lazy. I married a woman that already had children! I went from being a bachelor to a husband, to a stepfather, to a grandfather in less than three years. The current count on grandkids is 10. Both daughters say they have called it quits. We'll see. Stranger things have happened. :)

My work schedule lately has been very hectic and I have been unable to get away. Then came this past weekend.  I worked for a few hours on Saturday and headed up to Branson for the night.
We stayed with Page at the homestay as the dog likes it there and knows her way around, she is very comfortable there and seems to know the staff, I appreciate all they do for us and if you haven’t tried them out I suggest you do so.
We went out to Freddys in the early evening for some chili cheese fries, not sure if you are familiar but they are across the street from TJMaxx and the CCF are killer.  We shopped a little and hit the Tanger malls as well. That Saturday night we went to the IT show, it was a large cast and they really do their best to put on a great show but I think I was not the demographic they were shooting for.
After the show we ran back to the room and grabbed the dawg and we all went out for a slice of pizza at Cookies and Cream and then to Andys for a buy one get one concrete.  They even gave Izzy a dawg cone for free.  We sat back near the go carts and she didn’t care much for the noise.   After the dessert we went back to the room and dozed off till morning.
We arrived at the city right at rope drop at 10, made a b line down to PowderKeg and really enjoyed that, I must add we did not ride the train as time was short but you can see the 153 outside turn if you look behind you on the PK lift and it is really something. I am saving my next train ride for a less leafy time of year.  We then went over to Wildfire and the line was out the door, we skipped it. Went over to the woodcarvers and was really happy at the selection of affordable merchandise.  We stopped at the candle shop and again it seemed like they are trying to get some things in there that are a little different affordable and close to theme.  Next up was the Sullivans Mill, I myself am a fan of the cinnamon bread but was not in the mood that day however when I looked in the cabinet I noticed they had mini red velvet cupcakes and also a raspberry pastry mini as well for .50 each.  I could not help myself and took 1 of each.  I thought this was a great addition to the bakery, they did have small size cookies as well and they were reasonably priced.  I really appreciated buying just a little that we could have a few bites and not stuff oursellfs.
Next on to the candy shop there they were giving out 2 samples and we ordered a chocolate covered cherry.  After a quick ride on Thunderation we met up with a friend that was getting off his shift and went to his home to visit for a bit.
The day was perfect both weather a crowd wise, the lines got long but 2 rides is enough for frequent travelers.
I must say the merchandise I saw in the few shops I was in was a definite improvement; I think the hand made large coffee mugs at the pottery shop went down a few dollars in price.  That’s such a smart move, they didn’t sting as much when you looked at the price tag, I may pick one up next time I am at the city. I just need to start drinking coffee again !
I do hope they expand on the smaller portions of snacks and foods, I would love to be able to graze my way through the city and would spend more if I was able to try more without throwing away food or stuffing myself.
I am really looking forward to the fall festival.
The bad news…………………………..the Apple Dumpling place was closed again.
If I could figure out a way to post a picture I would

Made an unexpected but pleasant trip to Branson Wed/Thurs. Wife decided it was time to get away for a night. We enjoyed a light late dinner Wednesday at IHOP, then retired for the night. Thursday we toured the Branson Centennial Museum in downtown...free, and worth a look. Had lunch on the landing at Joe's Crab Shack, then boarded the Lake Queen for a cruise. I highly reccomend the cruise, as it is pleasant, peaceful, with beautiful scenery and a captain that told jokes throughout the trip, and was funny. When you pass by the old Janet Dailey mansion on the lake, just across the lake from it is Pete Herschend's house, and it's not too shabby, either! Pete's house and the Daily mansion were both places pointed out to look at by the captain, as was the house of Bill Paxton, a noted songwriter, who lives just down the street from Pete. We toured a few of the arts and crafts places and flea markets, enjoyed some ice cream at Dairy Queen, made a visit to the new visitors center at Table Rock (also worth the drive) and headed home. We are tired, but were glad to get away for a day or two. No trip to SDC this time. However, Branson has much more to offer and we liked doing something different.

I am curious if they keep offering the samaller baked goods. The day I went was after the StJohns day and I wondered if they were left overs.

To the SDC powers that be:
Some of us need our apple dumpling fix when we come to SDC, therefore we respectfully request that one of the following measures be adopted: 1. Keep the Ozark Mountain Cookie stand that sells apple dumplings (next to FITH) open daily, year round; or 2. Sell the apple dumplings at other stands and note their location in the pathfinder; or 3. Publish the dates, when the park will be selling apple dumplings, in a public forum (this website, the times, the SDC website) so we can plan our visits accordingly.

Respectfully submitted,
"The Apple Dumpling Gang"  ;)
