On November 9, 2012 at 10:15 pm the 7th annual Run to the Lights will take place at Silver Dollar City. Run to the Lights is "the premier fall race in Ozark Mountain Country. The race benefits  The Caring People, an organization that reaches out to Single Moms with unconditional love founded by Silver Dollar City co-owners JoDee and Peter Herschend."

I have never been healthy enough (I was a collegiate runner and was/ am injured for 5 years, not a smoker or overweight!) and my planning never matched up with the race registration. The enrollment/ registration opened up yesterday for anyone that wants to take on the city in a race has very little time to get registered!

I've entered this 5K every year, except the first one, and it's one of my "can't miss" events!!  It is so much fun!!

That's gonna hurt, whacking your way through those turnstiles during a race!  ;D

Well it is almost 24 hrs now from race time, and I just might make it after all! I have been going to a chiropractor for a month now, and am now, after 5+ years of post collegiate running, able to run again with minimal pain. My longest run has been 2.5 miles, and it was by no means a blistering pace! I am going to run tomorrow to finish the race, my goal is under 25 minutes (I know for some that is great, for a guy that finished 3.1 miles in the 16 minute range, this is 3 minutes slower per mile than my peak), but really I want to have fun. As long as I finish, and I am not in agonizing pain, I will be happy.

I have not been this excited to go to the city since the 50th anniversary festivities. and before that...who knows! Temps are supposed to be in the low 50's and that is great running weather! 10:15 tomorrow cannot come soon enough!

Live for adventure Rube! I hope the turnout is great, and hopefully someone will take a few pics from the event.

Oh I'll be snapping pictures like it is my last trip! now most will probably be blurry light filled images, but hey at 1015 at night what are you gonna expect?

So my wife pushed me a little more than I wanted, but we ran just under 24min . I'll post a full race recap when I get back after the weekend.

The smell of asphalt and butane says home!

Good job Rube! You did better than I did. I got exhausted just thinking about it. ;)

The next day was not so fun, and still feeling aches and pains...this was my first race in 5+ yrs, and I feel every ounce of it. Just worried now that I set my rehab back a few months! My knee id KILLING ME, and it wasn't hurting before the race...damn.

sounds like an "age" thing rube!!   :o :o

i hate getting older.. ::) ::)

As we have talked before, I remember when cardiac hill was just a quick walk up or down.  Now.......????? :-\ :-\.  Not so much..

i know, i know, and ego gets me in trouble more often than not. Since I used to be fast, and my wife is faster than me now, I have trouble giving up things without being competitive. Hopefully it is just a strain, and I'll be back in a week or two. I have narrowed it down to a couple of injuries...
pes anserine bursitis (I have had this before in the same region)
runner's knee( yep had this before as well)
MCL strain...never had it, don't want it!

Wifey who is an exercise scientist thinks it is a case of runner's knee...so we'll go with that. Seeing what my chiro says this afternoon.

Still it was an amazing run, 2,000 people total, but got to run unhindered through the lights and empty roads of the park. It was beautiful, and breathtaking. I will be back next year if I have to walk!

Sounds like a great time, but i would have to bring a Golf Cart to do it!!  LOL,  NOW THERE"S AN IDEA!!!!!

Heal up soon!!
