Were the owners/manager and workers all "local" help..

I am pretty "picky" about that detail..

i will not stay anywhere that does not have ALL Local employees....  ( if you catch my meaning)

Yeah, I do, and I'm pretty disgusted by it.  >:(

Not sure if it is all "Local help" but we've always had good luck at the HoJo near Titanic and Starlite.  Nice clean rooms with good beds and they have a decent breakfast in the morning.  Pretty easy to avoid traffic too as you use the "back entrance" and go in from near the "back entrance" to White Water.  I want to say it's the Red Route.

Sandune Rider I myself am picky about "local owned businesses" with local employees.  I myself am subject to income tax will not fill the coffers of those that do not have to pay there way like I do.  We unfortunately have built in some laws that allow some to escape this, I disagree with it however short of becoming elected and fixing the law I can only act upon my conscience.   My practice is to spend my money specifically, some may say precociously but that is my right.   I am with you on this subject, disgusting to others or not.   Stand up for what you believe in or be swept away by the tide.

My brother, who operates a food service business in the Branson area, says the Hispanics and other non-American workers have been brought in over the last few years because the local labor force is not what it used to be. He has had to resort to using some Mexicans from time to time. Apparently, it goes with the operation of a business in the area now. Sad thing, I say. When I was at SDC, the workforce was comprised of teenage kids, college kids, and some older, retired folks. Now, pretty much most of the workforce at SDC are mature adults and retirees.

Back in '96 I took the family to Disney/Orlando. At Epcot, we just about resorted to sign language to buy a bottle of water because the gal selling water primarily spoke Spanish. I don't like that, either. Whadda gonna do?

thanks MH! You summed up my thoughts pretty well..  But I do have strong political opinions on this topic... BUT since we stay away fromt he "political" conversations..  I thought i would just let it ride!!

After all we are in America, where it is ok to have your own opinion AND to voice them.. (for now anyway)..

During OTC hubs and I were eating at Wagon Works.  Very good food, but the young kids working there were acting up and tossing salt, french fries, etc. at each other.  I can't imagine older employees behaving this way.  It was close to closing time, but regardless, they needed to check their behavior. I can't imagine that it would have gone unnoticed if administrators had been walking by.

That kind of behavior by the kids should not be tolerated. We would have been taken to the woodshed for something like that. I hope it was an isolated incident.

Not trying to get political... but...

My ex wife is a Panamanian national, so I am fluent in Spanish, although I don't use it that much anymore.

I think that someone dealing directly with the public should speak good English. If they want to speak Spanish to a hispanic customer that's fine too.

It's just way too frustrating trying to talk to the guy behind the counter when his English is so bad that we can't understand each other. Here in OKC, I have on occaision, ordered in Spanish at the local McDonalds just because it was easier.

Just got back from another stay at Classic Motor Inn. We were pleased and will return. Also open on SOH during the winter:  Brick House, Scenic Hills, Ozark Valley, Honeysuckle, Always Home (I think that's the name).

Noticed that some work was being done at Homestay -- on Saturday we saw a couple of trucks leaving that were loaded with tree limbs, etc.  There are also 3 load trailers parked in the back corner of the lot.

biscuit, what are the rates there, what did they have for breakfast.??  thanks.

biscuitcreek

Current rates -- for repeat customers $39, first time was around $45 (not sure if the rates increase at other times of the year).

Breakfast -- french toast, biscuits and gravy, muffins, bagels, waffles, fruit cups, cereal, oatmeal, juice, milk, coffee.  Snacks (popcorn and maybe something else) are available in the lobby in the evenings.
