My 5 year old's reaction to the coasters at SDC

Hi all! The fam and I went to SDC Tues afternoon, all day Wed and are planning on going again tomorrow. My 5 year old is right at 48" in height (very tall for her age) and was a hoot on the rides! She's fearless! First up was Thunderation. DS (

and I went on it first. Then both of us took her (DH was waiting for a "real" coaster). The 8 year old was afraid she was going to flip out and was telling her not to worry about the big hill, etc. She got off of it and said, "That was boring. What's next?". The next day we all did Powderkeg. I'm not going to lie. I was apprehensive about taking her on that one. I was more nervous than she was. She got off that one mad that it didn't go upside down! The 8 year old had a look of terror on his face at the top of the Barn Swing while my daughter had arms and legs flying and had a huge grin the entire time. Next my hubby and the 8 year old went to try Outlaw Run...no way I was letting my "baby" on that one without someone testing it first. They were on the second row from the front. The coaster got shut down as they were at the top of the hill

. They had to climb down. Wednesday they tried it again. My daughter was angry she didn't get to go. My husband said maybe we should take her so she quits whining about it. Yeah, no fear of it at all!!! She got off of it and declared it to be AWESOME...next time she goes on it she is not going to hold on at all. Heaven help me when my little daredevil gets older! What shocked us more than anything was that she was scared on Fire in the Hole!

Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Being afraid on FITH is not really surprising. A lot of people don't really fear what can be seen. Those same people have a great fear over things that cant be seen. FITH is plenty dark. That's OK though. As I said, almost everybody is afraid of the dark (at least to some degree).

YES I can imagine the trembling Mom & Dad will do when she starts dating.

Sounds like all had a great time. That is the very reason that SDC is in existence. BTW--WELCOME to our little humble club.

My roommate gets freaked out on the Flooded Mine 'cause of the mannequin-like nature of the theming. She's terrified of stuff like that.

She should have seen it back before the guns, when it was just a slow creepy scary dark ride.

That's why I don't like the guns: the remove the imagination and power of the mind.

What if we got rid of the guns on Flooded Mine and got an additional dark ride with newer laser gun tech? (I mainly just hate how heavy the guns on FM are; if they're almost too heavy for me, how do kids deal with them?)

How about 3d screens like Toy story mania at WDW. It is hit and miss with the guns even working most of my recent trips. It is time to upgrade.

Oh man, I LOVE Toy Story Mania. That'd be a great ride to emulate. Fun for all ages!

What a great story, twokiddos! My 9 year old daughter enjoys most coasters but really dislikes the dark parts of rides, such as tunnels. She closes her eyes until that part is over. I'll be interested to see how she handles Fire in the Hole when we go to the park.

My nephew rode Thunderation and loved it, so we thought we'd take him on Powderkeg as well... Not a good idea. The minute the coaster launched, he burst into tears and didn't stop crying 'til we were back in the station. For a couple years after, he would sometimes randomly just say, "I don't like Powderkeg." LOL

Took my then 7 yo daughter on Powder Keg. It scared her but she liked it. She doesn't like FitH though. Too dark

That is the worst...when they are terrified and you can't do anything about it!!!
