In Wichita, we've got our first snow day this year. My teenage son had to work 7 am-9 am so I drove him, waited at Starbucks, then drove him home. I'm a teacher and was sort of looking forward to being lazy, but he had an accident last year on snow on the way to work, so he didn't want to drive especially. It took us twice as long as normal to get home, but we made it safely. Idiots out there, though. Someone passed us with only their front windshield cleared -- and then only where the wipers hit. Side windows, rear window were all covered. Happy to be home and safe with lots of food in the house.  ;D I'm betting we'll be cancelled again tomorrow. The news is reporting the city only has enough salt/sand to treat the roads once and that's only the emergency routes. I don't know how buses would get around in this and we have thousands of kids on buses.

I'm a little annoyed.  Other than the initial 1" of snow we got early this morning we haven't got a thing.  We could have got in a day of school today.  I would much rather be in session now as opposed to Mid-May :(

My thoughts exactly.   When I got home from work they already had school called off for today. Whats worse, it is 12:30 right now, It just now started to snow here. Well we have a light dusting, but the kids could have easily had school today.  I guess its good to error on the side of safety though.  But it was kinda silly to have school called off at 2AM .

I'm in Wichita too and just got the call from school they are cancelling again tomorrow.   My teenage boys are really happy.  We'll see how happy they are in a few minutes when I make them go out and shovel the driveway : )

The snow kicked into overdrive around 2:30pm -- up until then it hadn't done a thing since 8:30am.
We are out again tomorrow (Wednesday) and that will make #5 for us.  Have cleaned off the car 3 times now.
Doesn't look like it is doing anything right now, but the wind is starting to blow... yay?

Nearly everything local is closed tonight, and most schools have called off tomorrow.  Many dismissed at 2:00 today.  We have about 4-5" and are expecting up to 4 more tonight.  Then...arctic cold followed by more snow this weekend!  :o

Swoosh, thanks for the answer...  I thought that is how you expolained it last year.. just verifying....   Branson and area out tomorrow AGAIN...

that's 11 snow days for Branson

biscuitcreek

Be thankful you weren't in Branson Sunday -- lots of wrecks and slide-offs. Still looked bad when we drove through on Monday morning.

Looks like Capital City will be out of service again tomorrow.  Most businesses were locked up tight today - appears to be more of the same tomorrow.

Yeah our schools are off Wednesday also.  We did work tonite though. Roads  at 2 PM was about as bad as the roads were at 2 AM. The Boss gave us the option of leaving when Art was done with a certain job.  Yeah, Art finished up at 12:30. Whooop-i-deee-dooo.  A whole 90 minutes early. Screw that, we all just stayed and worked the whole shift.  By that time, the refreezing was already done, and an extra 90 minutes would give the road crews a chance to plow again.

We are supposed to get more snow Sat & Sun (I think). Here at "The Lou".

Ring up another Snow Day.  That makes #3 this week and #6 for the school year.  The main roads keep blowing shut and the back roads, yeah... not even touched.

Things did loosen up a bit, we were able to get to work. Sunny this afternoon. Bitter cold predicted for overnight and below zero with wind chill in morning. SPRING, WHERE ARE YA? :)  Roads in OK shape, so long as you keep down the speed.

Yeah, this winter has been "WELL"  you choose the adjective.
The weather lady today said that they have 3 weather models they use often.
-1 of them says that ST Louis will be 200+ miles north of a snowstorm Monday.
-1 of them says we will get dumped on Monday.
-the last says St louis will get a major snowfall (possibly what we got in 82) on Monday

I will say this. I usually like winter a lot. Mainly because I had serious heat exhaustion working at SFSL. I simply can not take HOT weather anymore.

I am getting tired of this winter.  (although generally a harsh winter will kill off a lot of rodents and insects, even garden weeds)  Lets just hope that will be the case this year.

Looks like we will be able to get a day of school in tomorrow.  *happy dance*
Then we get another storm coming through on Saturday and another on Monday....
