Hello everyone!

My name is Kody and I'm 27 years old.  I'm originally from West Plains, and some of my fondest memories of my childhood are going to SDC for school trips (band, choir, and other various school groups) and with my family!  It's been fascinating reading some of the things on here and reminiscing about SDC days past.  Also, we FINALLY got our season passes for this year, and plan on attending as much as possible, starting this weekend!  We currently live in Joplin, but will be moving back "home" to Springfield next year, at which point hopefully we will be consistent yearly season pass holders.  And as crazy as it sounds...this year will mark both mine and my wife's FIRST OTC visit ever...I'm so ashamed  :-\  ...lol!

Look forward to participating!  ;D

Welcome Kody! It's still a bit away, but I hope you and your wife enjoy your first trip for OTC. It really is a special time to visit the park. Also, I'm digging your "Ozarkian Daredevilry" tag!  :D

Welcome aboard Kody!
OTC is my FAVORITE festival, y'all are gonna love it!
You have a great past just ahead of you.

We are absolutely looking forward to OTC!
:D Haha!!  Thanks Ozarks Gal, It's my little way of paying homage to the (now removed... :'() "daredevils" on AP.  The only one left is the guy and his dog in the whirlpool that doesn't even spin anymore!  I miss all the faces in the tunnel, the guy that dropped the barrel on you, and the ones that got rushed with water...but now it's just a flat cement tunnel with very little theme left.  Oh well...

And also my avatar icon is of the book "Zeke Hatfield and the Ghost Named Rocky".  I probably read that book a million times when I was younger.  I thought it was so cool I actually bought something from SDC with my own money, and it was a really fun story!

We are going to the City for the weekend with a group of friends, and we're even going to camp out Saturday night at The Wilderness! (I love to camp!)  Should be a fun trip!

Hello everyone, I enjoy reading all your posts on here, and all the info I have learned. My husband and I would walk around the park, and wonder about different things, and you guys would have a post about it. We buy season passes every 3 or 4 years, and with the kids grown we can go in the spring and fall now. We might do season passes next year, and not because of the new coaster,we probably won't even ride it. I'm too chicken, and my husband has back problems, but he thinks it looks neat. Keep up the good work on here, and thanks to who set it up.

I'm gettin' outta here, no matter what!

SDC Gal

I've been lurking for almost a year now, and decided it was time I joined and introduced myself.

I've been a fan of Silver Dollar City since my first visit, I think it was 1976 possibly.  My mother grew up in southeastern Mo, (Summersville, near West Plains) and I loved going down to visit the "old home places" she grew up around (I'm from Iowa)  She kept saying she wanted to go to Branson sometime, and I keep poo-poo'ing that idea, since I loved the area she grew up in. My parents had visited SDC in it's earlier years when it was pretty much just the main street area.  Finally, she had her way, and we drove over to Branson on the way home. Our first stop was Shepherd of the Hills, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and then on out to SDC.  They had come after 3, next day free in those days.  We arrived after 3, and immediately did the cave tour.  Then....walked out and I discovered the wonderful thing that is Silver Dollar City!  Of course, by then, there wasn't much of the day left.  I begged and begged, whined and whined (umm, I was a senior in HS at this time!) to go back the next day, since it was free, but to no avail.

After that vist, pretty much up to the time I got married, we went every summer, spending a few days in Branson, and then over to visit the home places.  I treasured every trip.  When I got married, I drug my hubby down, and he pretty much hated it, which broke my heart, but low and behold, about 10 years later, we took our kids and eveyone, including hubby loved it!  So we go whenever we can now.

I love SDC!! I especially love the history of the park and the way things were when I went in those days.  I miss Flooded Mine before the Shootout, I miss the Taffy shop not being by the train station, I miss the doll shop not being by Hannahs, I miss the school when it was where the furniture shop is (though I love the furniture shop!) I miss the basket shop when it was in the Vineyard with all the baskets hanging overhead! I even miss the old entrance into SDC, before they changed the road up.

I too used to pretend I loved there, (and I repeat I was a senior in HS!)  I think I still would love to pretend, but my imagaination isn't as good as those days!

I've enjoyed reading all the posts especially the ones about the good 'ole days! Our family has been Disney freaks while the kdis were growing up, but my heart has always belonged to SDC.  With as many communities that there are for Disney freaks, I'm happy to find one for the SDC freaks!!

Welcome SDC Gal!  Thanks for sharing your memories.

Good to have you with us...here is to old memories and making new ones!
"Howdy there folks! My name is Junior Dugan, and I'll be drivin' your diving bell!"

SDC Gal

Thanks for the welcome! And while I dearly miss the old days, present day Silver Dollar City is still a pretty awesone place! I really enjoy the new rides.  While i miss the days the old school was where the furniture shop is, I love that shop, and one of these days something is going to follow me home from there! I also enjoy the time we spent at the Culinary & Craft School, and hope to catch a class each time we're there.  And i never got to enjoy Christmas at the city when I was growing up!

Progress isnt all bad, I guess!

Well, I reckon I've been riding the range long enough, surveying the landscape of this forum, so it's time for me to step in it.  A long time SDC visitor (my first visit was in the 60's), I've seen a lot of things come and go.  A lot of changes, some for the better, some not so much.  I'm kinda old school on a lot of things, so that will probably show in my posts.  Hopefully, I will praise as much as I critique.  Like all of you, I love the City and relish my every visit.  I'm not real chatty so I may not respond to every subject, but I'm watching.  You all take care...you've got a great past ahead of you.

Welcome, buckmehoff.  Glad to have you here and looking forward to your thoughts.
