So drumline?  what flavor of drum do you get to play during marching band?

We haven't had tryouts yet, hopefully snare though. I'm sure everyone else on this site loves our conversation we are having here.

14.  So does that make you an 8th grader or a Fresh?

Here's a video of our competitive drumline from last fall

I had a male director who played the clarinet.  He wasn't a good director though; the best ones all played trumpet.  In fact, ironically, the last band director I had (in college) was a former trumpet player for Elvis Presley.

And for the record, I was a percussionist (played quads in marching band).

I had you pegged as being a band geek too.  :D
...and I agree, for some odd reason, woodwind players really do not make good directors of band.  I've seen a lot of good woodwind assistant directors, but as the head dude, they are a rarity (though Macon has a sax player as their director and he has a really good band that we constantly fight for top honors at all competitions)

Young Freshman. And my schools 5-8 grade band director played clarinet and she's been a director for many years.

Ya, it's easy to find someone when there are only two guys on drumline.

I played Trumpet 7th-12th grade, and yep...my band director was a trumpet player too!
You have a great past just ahead of you.

Someone understands!

And Swoosh, we are done with jazz band now.

We actually refer to ourselves as "band jocks" with how intense our marching drills are. My kids are completely gassed after a full run of a show.

Remind me to never move to your school.

Do you guys do jazz band at all? (We won our competition today-1st time our schools ever won a competition!)

Jazz Band isn't really a thing down in Missouri anymore.  The focus has sort of shifted to indoor drumline and Winterguard

Iowa doesn't do those things. Jazz band is kind of a big deal....

Junior, too!

Got a grandson that is a band nerd...plays drums/percussion. They won in a competition in Bentonville, AR last week. Grandpa is proud! :)
