^Herm's rebuilding isn't working.  He's even admitted that.  Plus, before the 2007 season Carl wanted to bring in two or three free agent veterans to help the young players mature but Herm wouldn't allow it.  He said that it would take playing time away from the young players.  Carl wanted to split playing time between those veterans and the young players, and the veterans would tutor the young players.  So before the 2007 season there was a changing of the guard, so to speak, and Carl lost his power.  For the past two seasons the Chiefs have been run not by Carl, but by Herm.  So Herm is fully to blame for the worst season in Chiefs history.  He has run the Chiefs organization into the ground and needs to go.

^While I agree with you on certain things (Herm running us into the ground) I certainly disagree with other things. I do think there has been progress made. I watched every game this year and if you did too I think you'd notice progress:

Tyler "Thiggy" Thigpen- He looked terrible at Atlanta in his first start. I made fun of him and wrote him off. But, he certainly got much better and made a lot of veteran-like plays when he is essentially a rookie when it comes to his playing time. I don't think we can look at his win-loss record as an indicator as to if he can be our QBotF.

Branden Albert/Glenn Dorsey- Both of our first round picks made progress, especially Albert. Albert helped hold Joey Porter to half a tackle in the Miami game. Porter came into the game with 17 and a half sacks. Dorsey had his best game of the year in the final contest against Cincinnati. Albert will be a Pro Bowl left tackle someday, with Dorsey the jury is still out, but you can't call him a bust yet.

Brandon Flowers/Brandon Carr- Our two young cornerbacks. I think Flowers is going to be a great one. Carr had a pretty good rookie campaign, but he tried not to give up the huge play too often. He will get better in time.

Obviously, our team made progress with how we competed from the beginning of the year to the end. But, how many big leads can be given up that Herm can still hold onto his job? The Tampa Bay game, San Diego (twice), Miami. We just lost the fourth quarter way too often. I just wonder how many chances a guy can get.  I just think he is a good man/good talent finder, but he is a TERRIBLE game planner and game manager. I sometimes felt I could do better, as did 90% of the Chiefs kingdom. He will find a job with someone else if he does get fired. (Hopefully with Oakland)  ::)

I think the foundation has been laid for success but there is still a lot of work to be done, especially on defense. But, I think Tony Gonzalez will stay. Larry Johnson will go. I won't get into those situations.

^Herm is a terrible game manager, I agree.  Any guy that is 6-26 in two years needs to be fired.  Progress has been made but I think that if the Chiefs are going to rebuild it needs to be all the way.  As in any guy that makes you think "Kansas City Chiefs football" needs to go (i.e. Tony Gonzalez).  This needs to be a fresh start.  And Tony wants to be traded, I don't think that has changed.  He deserves to play for a contender and have a chance at winning a Super Bowl; a guy with his talent needs a ring and that won't come with the Chiefs.

Here's a sobering stat.  The Chiefs defense had 10 sacks (10!) the entire season.  Jared Allen had 14.5 himself for the Vikings this year.  That trade still makes no sense to me.  Especially since we could've put the franchise tag on him.

I don't have time to fully respond to this topic, but I somewhat disagree that Herm had all the power.  I think he had significant power, but I don't think he is all at fault for everything.  For instance, I know that Carl had significant issues with Jared Allen, which was a big reason for him being traded.

I do understand that someone typically takes the fall for a team doing poorly, and that person usually is the coach (warranted or unwarranted).  It's not going to kill me if he isn't back, but I'm not going to have a cow if he is.

^I agree that sometimes the coach taking the fall is unwarranted.  I think it's a shame that Mangini was fired, for instance.  And don't even get me started on men's college basketball coach firings, especially since last year a few coaches were fired from teams that made the NCAA tournament but didn't go far enough.  In pro sports especially teams don't have patience with coaches.  It takes time to build a winner, but owners want instant success.  I do, however, think Herm has had enough time.

Tony will stick around just because of Tyler Thigpen, in my opinion.

My jaw hit the floor when Mike Shanahan was fired by the Broncos though. I thought I'd never see the day when that would happen.

I can't remember if I've asked this already, so here goes.  Who's your pick?  OU or Florida?  I think Florida wins a close game.  OU definitely won't score 60, and I don't think OU's giving (it's definitely not stingy) defense will be able to slow Tebow and Florida's speedy offense.

^I want OU to win -- in fact I would love for them to 60point Florida, but I have a bad feeling that Florida is going to win over "Chokelahoma".

OU's choking is one of the intangibles that I considered in my prediction. :)  If I had my way neither would win since both Stoops and Meyer are so smug and full of themselves already.  I'd also give Utah a slice of the National Championship for taking it to Alabama early and often and being the only undefeated team this year.

Yes but they are in Mountain West -- seriously who have they beat this year besides Alabama in the Sugar Bowl (granted Alabama plays in a very OVERRATED SEC conference).

I still say Texas and USC should have been in the NCG

They beat no. 12 TCU, no. 14 BYU, Oregon State (the only team to beat USC and who should finish in the top 25), and of course no. 4 Alabama.  Not exactly a cupcake schedule.  Who else have they beat?  Everyone they were supposed to beat.  They can't control what conference they play in.  What more do you need to do except beat everyone you're scheduled to play against?
