Just did my monthly search on Youtube for anything SDC, and found this AWESOME 1970s home video from SDC... It shows the mural in the Hospitality House being painted, Jim Owens' Float Trip, the train, and more!

It's an 8 minute video chock full of vintage SDC goodness:

WOW!! Great video Joy!! Thanks for finding it! Now I know what my parents and grandparents saw.

Ah, it's great to finally see Jim Owen's in action. It looks so nice, I kinda wish they had found another place to put the plunge.

Man, SDC has always been a really classy parks. Most places start out small and learn their way, but SDC has held it's own charm and draw from the beginning.

Joy

It'd be nice for them to at least restore much of the awesome theming that they had on the float trip... I had no idea there had been THAT much theming.

Yeah, the float trip is one of those rides that, along with the Diving Bell, you hope SDC will re-build someday. Tch, doubt it though, people have been begging for the Diving Bell to come back for ages, and it hasn't come close to happening yet.

Coaster

I don't know if I want to see Jim Owen's Float Trip come back. It had great theming but I think SDC can go in a different direction and it would be a much better addition. I'd much rather see the Diving Bell return than this.

Well, I don't know about bringing back the Float Trip persay... I wouldn't mind them keeping American Plunge and just adding back a bunch of scenery along the "track". Basically make it more themed like, say, Splash Mountain or something.

The Diving Bell would be awesome to have back.

I agree on that Joy. But Splash Mountain has almost too much theming. And the music....gees how annoying. I would love to see American Plunge go back to the way it was. They used to have great theming in the cave and now it's just a concrete wall. I'd love to see that restored back into it's prime.

You know, I remember hearing the story about why they re-did the tunnel, but now I forgot. Anyone remember? I think it had something to do with PK's construction.
I too miss the scenes in the tunnel, now it's pretty boring.

I remember seeing the old tunnel be destroyed, and how shocked I was; I thought for a minute there that they were taking the plunge out.

Coaster

Well, AP was closed today remember, who knows what was wrong with it.

The American Plunge Cave was collapsing, so they had to fix it. Unfortunately they half assed it and didn't do anything fun with the tunnel. It is a concrete tunnel to support the loop that will eventually connect Powder Keg and Wildfire.

I would love if they added the channels near the Wildfire overflow line back to the American Plunge. Put the still back in and the falling outhouse. These would be small additions that would make the ride more enjoyable.

Coaster

I think your talking about whenever they put the concrete wall in. That happened a couple years ago. I'm talking about when my sister went to the park and American Plunge was closed for the day for some odd reason.

I guess I was answering this.

As for why a ride is closed, it could be a myriad of things. Low attendance, pump broke, sensor broke... the list goes on and on...

Coaster

Whoops sorry Copper. I didn't see Steve's post. I'm sure it was closed because of a technical issue.

No prob, I should have quoted him to begin with!
