Further proof that BOTH Duncans need to leave the organization.

Dave Duncan is fine.  He's doing a great job.  We've got the second lowest team ERA in baseball so far this year (3.57) and you want to get rid of Dave Duncan?

Sure, Pineiro took the loss yesterday, but he only gave up 1 earned run.  He didn't deserve the loss and wouldn't have had one if Chris Duncan learned to catch with two hands.

Dave Duncan is a terrible pitching coach one only needs to look at the last two years to see that.

Game postponed today.  That's the official word, anyway.  I think it'll be canceled since it's the fourth game of the series and will only be made up if there are playoff implications.  Perhaps it's just as well since McClellan was penciled in as the starter in place of Lohse at the last minute.  I suspect it was due to the prospect of playing in slippery conditions, since his knee's been bothering him a bit.  The report said Lohse would not be skipped in the rotation, so it looks like he'll start tomorrow against the Phillies.  This will also give Albert an extra day of rest. :)

Another day- another move in the standings- tied for 2nd.

You can tell Mother Nature thank you now -- otherwise you'd still be in 3rd

THe redbirds not playing has nothing to do with us tying up the reds for second place- Explain your logic mr. swoosh!

I guess you don't understand "games back", let's try to explain this in the easiest way I can.

Team A (team that is in the lead in standings)
Team B (team that is not in the lead in standings)

Both teams played today
Team A wins, Team B wins - no change in games back
Team A wins, Team B loses - Team B falls a game further behind
Team A loses, Team B wins - Team B picks up a game and is one less "game back"

Only 1 teams played today
Team A idle, Team B loses - Team B falls a 1/2 game back
Team A idle, Team B wins - Team B gains a 1/2 game
Team A wins, Team B idle - Team B falls a 1/2 game back
Team A loses, Team B idle - Team B gains a 1/2 game

So in essence, by the Cardinals not playing today, the Cubs were guranteed a 1/2 game gain if they won -- if the Cardinals had played and won today, the Cubs would have still be back 4 games and still in 3rd place in the NL Central.

Wrong thread and sport.
Why not post it in the SDCfans Lounge?

Good thing there are 2 Blaines and this is not the one earmarked to be the starter -- that's Gabbert

Well, the Cubs were in second place before today's games.  A three way tie after Saturday, two way tie after today.  So, while they picked up 1/2 game on St. Louis by virtue of the rain-out, they didn't move up in the standings...still in second place.

After Saturday's games:

                W     L       GB
STL          17     8     --
CHC        12    11    4.0
CIN        12    11    4.0
PIT        12    11    4.0
MIL        12    12    4.5
HOU        10    14    6.5

After Sunday's games:

STL     17    8    -
CHI      13    11    3.5
CIN      13    11    3.5
MIL      13    12    4.0
PIT      12    12    4.5
HOU     11    14     6.0

2 back in the loss column and sole possession of 2nd place. :)

Of all our pitchers, I can't believe Lohse gave up a slam to Philly.

Wellemeyer, yeah... I'd believe him giving up the keys to the clubhouse. But not Lohse!

Zephon

Lohse wasn't the same after he got hit in the elbow by that pitch.  And I can understand why, even though it wasn't his pitching arm.  You still use your whole body.

I'm praying for a speedy recovery for Rick.  Even if nothing is seriously damaged, he'll be sore for quite a while.  I don't expect him back for quite some time.

I read on the Post-Dispatch website that Rick was at the hospital tonight and had full use of all of his limbs, plus a really puffy face.  I wonder how serious his concussion is and if he has whiplash?

Zephon

This morning, the news is that X-rays and CT scans came out negative, so that's good news.  He probably does have whiplash sort of soreness, and I saw that he is listed as day to day, not on the DL, though that could change obviously.  The good thing is, no permanent damage.  It wouldn't surprise me if he's in the dugout tonight.
