^Wait a minute.  Last night's game was in KC, so I assume that's where you live.  The Royals lost to the Cardinals last night...and they still shot off fireworks?

Anyway... two good wins for the good guys.  Last night was a blowout.  Tonight, another HR for Albert, but things got pretty sticky there in the bottom of the 8th.  But Franklin limited the damage, and we got a bunch of insurance runs in our part of the 9th.

AND NOW WE'RE BACK IN 1st PLACE.  GO CARDINALS!!!

Actually, Joy lives in Springfield now so she's talking about the fireworks after the Springfield Cardinals games! :)

Joy

LOL... Did I get confused as to which Cardinals you guys were talking about in here? *covers face* Oh well, the fireworks were still pretty anyhow.

^^^Ohhh.  OK  Makes sense now.  Nice of the Royals to do that for their fans on Friday nights.

^Yah, usually when we say "Cardinals" here, we're talking about the St. Louis Cardinals.  But sometimes the Springfield Cardinals comes up too.  I see that they're having a pretty good season, tied for the lead in their division.  Good stuff.  I haven't been up to see them (or the St.L Cards) yet this season.  Gonna have to get up there.  I usually make it to a couple of games a season.

I titled this thread "Baseball" first, "Go Cardinals" second.  So, while I'm first and foremost a St. L. Cards fan, as are most of us here, I don't mind talking about other teams too.  I'll root for the Royals anytime they're not playing the Cards (wish we had Greinke on our team).  We have one or two Royals fans here.  And I'll even put up with the rants of Cubs or Brewers fans, if they should happen to rear their ugly heads here, although they won't get much sympathy.

Oh you mean like yesterday when it took the baby bears 13 innings to beat a Cleveland team that has lost 5 in a row?  Which team is the more pathetic team in that situation?

Oh and I loved how the WGN announcers were going on and on about how the Cubs are getting "hot" -- yeah beating up on a team with a lot of injuries does not equate becoming "hot" you just played above yourselves last year and you became a little more grounded this year.

Three thoughts from this series with the Royals.  Glad we scored a lot of runs, Albert is a legend, and if we let him walk after 2011 I will wear black for a year.

Swoosh

WOO HOO!  GET YOUR BROOMS!!!

Cardinals SWEEP the Royals...
I'm sorry, '85 what?

^^^Yah, Swoosh.  They've been extremely lucky in three of their last four games...with those walk-offs against teams they should be crushing...the ball was literally bouncing in their favor.

WOW! is about all you can say about Albert.  It's great to see the Cards back on the winning track.

Another WOW! for Albert.  We're hanging in there by the skin of our teeth.

Yeah, it was a great day for Albert.  Interesting news.  Apparently the Cardinals have intensified their pursuit of A's outfielder Matt Holliday.  They're willing to trade Ryan Ludwick, a young reliever (Jason Motte, Kyle McClellan, or Chris Perez) and a young prospect for him.  Also DeWitt is on board to assume the remainder of his $13.5 million salary.  This is at least something to try and give Pujols a little more protection.  The problem is it'd be a half year rental since he's a free agent at the end of this season.  I'd rather see something like this only if we'd be willing to sign him after this year.  That's a lot to give up for a half year.

This Just In-

The Cardinals have traded Chris Perez and a player to be named later for Mark DeRosa, formerly of the Cleveland Indians, last year with the Cubs.

DeRosa has been playing well this year, hitting .270 with a .342 on-base percentage, a .457 slugging percentage, 13 HR's and 50 RBI's so far.  He will be a welcome addition, scheduled to join the club Sunday, and probably starting at third.  That means that the Holliday talk will probably subside, or maybe not.

I swear "a player to be named later" sure does get moved around a lot. ;)

LOL, yah, that guy has to have the record for playing on every team in baseball.  Oddly though, you don't hear much about him when he makes it to the bigs.

Hey, how about rookie Colby Rasmus getting his first career homer as a walk-off in the 10th, while Albert was on deck?

sdcforever

^Yeah, that was cool. 8)  It was pretty obvious that if Albert came up the Giants would've intentionally walked him.  In extra innings for that game either the Giants or the Cards minus Albert were going to win.  No way the Giants would allow Albert to beat them in extra innings.

I've run out of words to express my admiration for Albert.  Another grand slam tonight and an RBI double.  I am still in disbelief that Dusty Baker had Albert pitched to with the bases loaded that late in the game.

From the ESPN report:

"I don't want to talk about that," Pujols said. "You should talk about Hoffy and [Skip Schumaker] getting on base. That's the whole point of the game. We put some good at-bats together. I never think the game is over until there are 27 outs."

That's just part of what makes him such a great player, and his humility is part of why he's so well loved.

BTW, this is his 4th slam of the season, which ties Musial for the club record. It was also his 350th career homer, making him the 3rd youngest player to reach that mark (behind A-Rod and Junior).

I admire Baker for pitching to him. Dusty is a class act. I hate it when other teams pitch around him, but that's why he's also #1 in base-on-balls (64).
